He was our favorite Game Master… and, as it turned out, a Divinity fan.
So we invited him to tell his story, his way, using our brand new Game Master mode.
He designed his own campaign, and we invited Jesse Cox, Dodger, Strippin, and Bikeman, to play it live. - เกม

Man, GM mode was the perfect addition to this game...

well sword coast had its developer go under part way through the rage of demons dlc so they can't improve on the game anymore
I can't back that statement up. Meeting in person has its merits but it comes with its own share of problems... mostly time and space management.
I ran online and local campaigns and have played around with all sorts of accessories. For rules-intense game systems (dare I say even simulations) virtual tabletop apps are a great way to keep track of everything and automate complex game mechanics. I have started using MapTools even for local games and it speeds preparation times, combat and... well basically everything up - thank god for macros. It enables people to play characters they would not usually pick due to their sometimes convoluted class concepts (e.g. they reference half a dozen books and/or have tons of circumstantial bonuses)
As for online play, well you get to have access to players from all around the world. Even if you play with your friends from town it offers some advantages that local play lacks, from not having to travel anywhere (more game time) to everybody being able to play their own soundtrack.
Sure, body language, facial expressions and all that gets lost, then again you have a chat to mess around with and can draw on the map easily and quickly (oh and templates for AoE effects are always nice).
I will not presume to speak for all roleplayers but I actually prefer online play. Especially since local temperatures are getting around 35° - 40°C at the moment I got no desires to keep my pants on just to game :D

Ah yes the original NWN was *such* a failure and nobody played it online with active DMs. Also online tabletop games are totally not a thing, nobody plays DnD over the internet, and tabletop simulator is totally not popular. Strongly smells like you have no idea wtf you're talking about.
Sword Coast Legends failed miserably because it was a shit game.

that's not a thing.
Honestly it's not that hard. It looks like they made no cuts at all and just took the footage from everyone, put it into premiere, hit the multi camera mode, and clicked whenever they felt like making one person's footage show. Pretty simple stuff. Now if they had taken the entire 4 hour show and whittled it down to the best 30 minutes THEN it would be a nightmare.
These four are extremely funny together. I would watch another episode of this.

I know you said this a while ago but Dodger, Jesse Cox and Bikeman plays D&D together on Twitch. Their campaign is called Strange Roads and is streamed by the DM Arcadum.
Strippin also plays with in Gambler's Delight and Shadow of Tyre, also on Arcadums channel.
the fact that he allowed tethysenthisys to do the vomit totem thing is why I love Matt as a DM he prioritises fun over dumb meta rules
AeroDbladE that to me is what makes the difference between a good and not-so-good DM/GM, knowing when to let the group have fun and not be rules rules rules all the time.

Yes McCree. He's in pillars of eternity, league of legends, Warcraft, hearthstone, the list is pretty gargantuan. Plus hes a good gamer and dungeon master. A respectable dude in the rpg world

divinity original sin 2 for me is by far the best RPG i have ever seen in my life. Its my game of the year if nothing else :D
Guerrilla Games made Horizon Dawn, SIE or Sony Interactive made The Last Guardian while fallout 4 wasn't good Prey from Bethesda is. But Legend of Zelda is a sure win for Game of the Year that's pretty much set in stone at this point.
Look I'm not saying these developers always made the best games or that they have the best business strategy and practices. what i'm saying is that Zelda is one of the best selling game of this year so is horizon dawn while prey is looking to be a top seller also. Now to be clear I like Divinity Original sin and the sequel looks pretty damn good too although i'm pretty sure I won't playing using the GM mode anytime soon it looks to be a pretty cool addition to the game.
The last guardian was ok but not as good as Shadow of the Colossus, BotW was good but I hated so many stuff from it, it is a solid 7.5/8 for me. The only thing in your list I really enjoyed is Horizon Zero Dawn.

Definitely not. That goes against the core concepts of freedom and exploration in tabletop RPGs. Even when the GM/DM tells you something, there's no guarantee you will even remember all the content being thrown at you (take notes!). All tabletop RPGs that I've played have some version of memory checks, which is where you attempt to recall information such as directions, names, lore, conversations a PC had with another PC, or really anything else about the history of what has happened or been revealed within the game.
He's suggesting putting in a "ping" option, so the GM can draw attention to something specific while they describe it.
+Bloody Rahu Giving the player context for what their character is looking at in no way "goes against the core concepts of freedom and exploration in tabletop RPGs". It only helps direct the player towards what they're already supposed to be looking at. If they choose to ignore or miss that information, so be it, but your argument is ridiculous.

Running around the Map while the others do RP with the GM and looting everything, hoarding everything, at the Final Fight, Matt even said he offered many Potions in the story, but Mister Lizard took em all and gave none to the others
The others noticed his behaviour as well, but for the sake of the video only made short comments of it

@@ChessJourneyman Nahh she was at least as entertaining as the guy who played the human. Her voice acting was worse than his but that's because his character's the same gender so it's easier to pull off a suitable voice. But I won't lie, the lizard and the dwarf were the real stars of this show :P
Very well edited. It’s nice being able to see the players screen when they are actively doing things. Even just purchasing. I wish there were more videos like this.
This is a glimpse of the future of online RPGs... amazing stuff. Just give it a world editing mode and a community hub for publishing created objects and you've got unlimited possibilities. Although I still prefer fully zero technology, pen and paper D&D, though.

As a D&D dungeon master, all my experiments have proven that absolutely no visual aid is always the best. The mind is a powerful tool..

I still remember the old days playing NwN1.. nothing more came after that. I played so many MMOs trying to get that roleplaying experience, trying to revive my old days playing tabletop roleplay games with my school friends. We have been waiting too long, and now its hard to believe Larian managed to create something close, or better, to that incredible experience. Thanks!
I think this tool is great for people who want to start making rpgs but never have made a game before. SOme of the best rpg game devs could spawn from this.

I am absolutely loving this mode, Its one of the best additions to the RPG genre i have seen. Though i do have one question!! Will there be an ability to add triggers for events, fights and vignettes? i feel its a bit cumbersome to manage absolutely everything consistently, Triggers would greatly help with this.

You should check out Critical Role maybe. You get A LOT of good content over there. Matt Mercer created two whole campaigns, and they also did a couple of one-shots.

I was curious and got SO MUCH MORE than I expected with this video. Kudos to ALL of them (And the editor). I laughed, cried, laughed! And again, always impressed with Matt Mercer. Question; Are they all voice actors? Cuz they rocked it!
I know 2 of them as TH-camrs and I have seen Jesse Cox play these table top type of RPGs before. I agree with you though, if they turned this into a series or even a show I would definitely watch!

Seeing Matt Mercer's awesome DM skills makes me want a cheesy McCree skin based on DnD. For his ultimate he would say "roll for dex..." and "20!" When he fires. Instead of "like shootin' fish in a barrel" he could say "opportunity" or something.
His tumbleweed and flashbang could be dodecahedral dice, and his outfit heavy robes, with a magical revolver at his side.

Sgt Gyn I think there is something similar already in the game. There was something yesterday when I created my new Character.
The Witch is already the vampire, it has already vampire powers
the necromancy skilltree focusses on topics around death in general (blood, illness, stuff like that) in addition to conjuring the fallen bodies of your enemies to fight for you. But you have to be careful, do not take the leech talent (this makes you absorb blood to heal a certain amount) because if you walk over blood while having leech you suck all the blood away. On the other hand some necromancy-skills require you to stand on top of blood (and those are generally more effective compared to having leech). i think it is quite the irony that leech ruins necromancy, basically like two different branches of the same ability fighting against each other :'D
-Slowlaire what necromancer skills grow stronger while standing in a bloodpool?? I can't see something like that on the official website under the necromancer skills- EDIT: Sorry youre right dude, bloodsucker is useless if you have the leech talent. But this one seems to be the only skill.
Yeah, add your custom character and watch your game clients and server crash. Good for you if it hasn't happened yet. It will.

We all know Matt Mercer and Jessie Cox, but who are the other 3 players? The picture of the guy who played the lizard Tethysythesis looks like Saul Rubinek from Warehouse 13. Also, he was the most hilarious player I've seen in a very long time and stuck to his accent/character the whole way. Bravo!
