I really appreciate the work that Dr. Atala is doing, but can't help but feel frustrated that what he's saying in his talks now is almost a carbon copy of his speeches made in 2010, or earlier even.
It feels like no progress has been made in the past 15 years. We should be well into stage 2 trials by this point.

Algae and *marine animals like turtles live for hundreds of years.*
There are a lot of lessons to learn from their biology.

that was some weak ass applause. Shoulda been jumping up and down, celebrating with champagne showers, and high fives all around after he was done presenting that.

    The questions is when?

For it to become something that your insurance would pay for? I think 10-15 years is a reasonable conservative estimate.
There have already been isolated incidences of printed organs being successfully implanted into patients, but it takes time for the technology to advance & the regulators to be convinced enough for these things to become generally accepted & available medicine.

We do apologize that some of our International Summit content does not include slides. Some speakers do not allow their slides to be recorded.

@@singularityu Dr. Anthony Atala does indeed allow his slides to be shown. I think this is a case of not properly setting up cameras. He produced a slide show for people to see what he is talking about.

Regenerative medicine has failed, unfortunately. I have spoken to many reputable scientists at home and abroad, and they are all extremely skeptical. Dr. Atala transplanted an artificial bladder in 1999, but the second stage of clinical trials are constantly delayed, I don't think it's a matter of bureaucracy. Yes, in the beginning it inspired hope, but now it is already clear that nature cannot be outwitted.
