I was already impressed with the Running Gear upgrades; with the wider Suzuki Samurai axles with larger rear Brakes and newer front disc Brakes, ALL Major.
But, now even further upgrades continue WOW! With additional 4x4 5.11 locker gears front and rear axles, new axle seals/bearings, new Front Manual Locking Hubs Plus, the upgrade drive line with the Slip-Yoke unit installed. Ed’s LJ20 Build just gets better and better. I can hardly wait to see Ed drive it for the first time.

Low RPM with a little cutting oil . Have used carbide bits , cobalt often . I usually can get a bite with a quality normal bit , but as soon as you add a little speed you burn the cutting edge . Enjoying the build . I drive a 97' Tracker and so far the driveline has held up well .

    • @ddt0889
      @ddt0889 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

Yes good advice. At a former workplace I had to drill and tap hard steel and occasionally stainless, with carbide bits. As soon as you spin it and heat it up that bit is done and it makes it harder for the next one to bite also. Super low rpm, lots of pressure, cutting oil, and clear your chips often.👍

Landon is a very blessed young man to have a Dad who loves him enough to teach him the things he can use the rest of his life.
My Dad was a pipeline welder, and I spent many hours in his shop with him when he wasn't offshore laying pipeline in the Gulf of Mexico. I later became an aircraft mechanic, and later still, built a residential and automobile glass business. The things he taught me have given me an advantage to this very day.
I've done the same thing for my 16 year old. His Mom left us 10 years ago, so I made sure he never had much idle time. We've torn down out buildings, built a metal building , been teaching him welding, machinist work, blacksmithing, carpentry, you name it. Right now, we are restoring a 1952 Piper Tri-Pacer (airplane).
So, is my kid going to be a welder? A machinist? A blacksmith? Aircraft Mechanic? Own his own glass shop?
    No!
He's breaking my heart by being accepted to a college at the age of 16, and studying Quantum Physics!
    Kids today.
When ya think you've prepared them for the real world, they go out and become a scientist.
    What ya gonna do?
(Seriously, I've known for years he was a super intelligent kid, and suspected he might want to study science some day. That's why I prepared him by teaching him how to do lots of mechanic related stuff, so he won't be helpless like most egg heads)

Passing on skill sets and information to the next generation to keep the trades alive AND spending time together in the shop, out wheeling...priceless! Did it with my Dad, my kids and now even with my grandkids. The best ever!
Keep up the great job and ignore the haters, there's always haters!!👍

Why’s your mind wandering Paul lol

Since I am new to this build, I considered skipping ahead to the finished product but then realized that so much work went into it that I need to watch the whole thing. I too love a custom rebuild that ends in reliability and ignore the purists from time to time. Keep it up!

The trick to drilling hardened stuff in my opinion is start with a small bit, then a little bigger etc etc, and slow speed. Fast drilling eats drill bits up quick AND work hardens the steel even more.

Yes you can use a concrete bit to drill hardened steel, use them to drill safes all the time. The trick is to sharpen it like a regular drill bit and use lots of pressure and some sort of coolant

Amazing to see you constantly meeting and conquering challenge after challenge... We had a "Not Me" at our house too... 55 years ago... Great teamwork and mentorship too, a Jedi knight and a Padawan apprentice, and that wonderful light keeps him away from the Dark Side... Thanks You... Looking forward to Sunday mornings for updates

My lucky day🍀🍀🍀Stumbled upon your channel by chance; my good fortune!!!!!
What a GREAT family and group of friends!!! Love the positive attitude, caring and giving.
So impressed that you can BUILD, mend, fix, put together a car like some folks might mend a hem, make cinnamon rolls or piece a simple quilt. And so wonderful to see all your knowledge, skills, tradition passed on. Love the "see one, do one"; hands on teaching, encouragement, camaraderie and guidance. Wish I could come and learn. Waiting to see the final rebuild, refurbish, rebirth, resurrection and Ed's reaction.
Got hooked after watching Ed's LJ20 recovered. Wow an overnight camping adventure, too big for the "road" Jeep squeezing down a too narrow trail, making road when needed, and hauling out the Ed's Golden Nugget. What a great a jolly community! Must be the Mountain Dew! Thank you. My lucky day🍀🍀🍀Stumbled upon your channel by chance; my good fortune!!!!!
