Hi Karoline! I absolutely agree that the cooler neutral colors look fantastic on you. Sweater #20 really suits your coloring, and the dark gray roll neck (by Petite Knits?) that you’re working on will look great too. Please keep on modeling your finished knits because it is so important for me to see how finished objects fit in real life. I really need that kind of encouragement to finish my own WIPs; it is SO helpful. All body types have their beauty - I’m so glad to see people (including knitters) getting away from only one body type as “the” ideal body type. Hand knits suit ALL different body types! 😁
I love the last bit about body image Karoline ! I think it is really important that we highlight these things and make people feel like it’s okay ! As someone who has struggled with keeping weight on, I go through the same struggle with tailoring patterns to fit me and not being the right size. Thank you for sharing ♥️
Thank you for addressing body image so openly. I hate that so much pressure is put on people to look certain ways or do certain things for particular events. Or that expectations of women are to always look put together and be happy. We are human with normal ranges of emotions and weight. I'm happy to watch your pods and learn about how you knit and what is important to you. ❤️
Thank you so, so much for sharing your thoughts and experience regarding weight loss/gain, etc. I’ve had a hard time lately because, like you said, it’s engrained in us to think a certain way about our bodies. You’ve helped me realize that me feeling crummy about my body is more about the loss of strength and fitness rather than the numbers I see, and I feel more empowered today to choose to fuel my body so I can do the things that bring me joy.
Karoline, this video has really, really touched me. As someone who has struggled with body image issues for 70 years it is a very difficult subject. My brain tells me one thing and the emotional part of me continues to say something else. I can’t say that anything you’ve said has changed that for me but, for today, you have allowed me to just let your words flow over me and bring me a day of peace. The more days of thinking like you I can string together the more peace of mind I might get. Thank you! Salam wa sa’aadah
Karoline I love this episode and I appreciate your honesty about body images and how much energy and mental space that can take up. I agree that realizing being thinner won’t make a person happier and that’s an important thing to realize and something we need to remind ourselves of continually. And being thinner isn’t the same as eating more nutritiously or exercising to be healthier. Good luck with all the wedding preparations!
Karoline, thank you so so much for sharing about body positivity! I started knitting several years ago (about the same time as you!), but only recently discovered your channel. I was so excited and relieved to find someone who looked like me knitting the things I loved to knit. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for sharing and who else would we want to see in your knits you are stunning. It took me 50 years to really believe that weight means nothing and does not relate to happiness, though it brought me a lot of unhappiness. What a waste of time and emotion. When I started eating better and exercising more that made me happy and it’s no coincidence that my weight stabilised. Yoga has given me a totally different understanding and appreciation for my body. I’m just focussed now on how it performs!!
I just found your podcast. I love it! What you said about our bodies, and that lifelong pressure of ‘if I were thinner I would be happier’ really resonated with me. Thank you for talking about it. We are worthy and our bodies are amazing!!!
Oh, so happy to learn you enjoy Crossfit too. Thanks for the podcast, they are always fun to listening to while knitting! Cute puppy, we never see enough of them, even when they do silly things! Greetings from Québec!
Thanks again Karoline for a great video. I’m looking forward to the odd balls make along. I have so many odd balls - both leftovers and ‘special’ one offs. It has, like with many crafters, been my intension to use up some of my stash this year so it will be interesting and inspiring to see what others are doing with their odd balls and to get knitting on them. I’m starting to changing the way I access patterns - most of the established commercial yarn/pattern brands and the more mainstream magazines are not size inclusive and in my 50+ years of knitting I’ve always had problems with sizing and had to self calculate how to get things to fit. The early days of accessing patterns online were also problematic, patterns still weren’t size inclusive and often included errors. I’ve cancelled subscriptions to magazines now because of this and rarely purchase a commercial printed pattern through yarn shops. Online patterns, over the past decade have developed to be,in my opinion, the best way to purchase well tested size inclusive patterns. I’m so glad that this community is actively questioning the social norms on sizing and body image. Sorry big ramble to say I appreciate your discussions on this issue.
Hi Karoline, I'm struck by how many parallels there are between you and I -- both blondes who wear glasses, both in a similar size range, both getting married, both doing CrossFit, and both advocating for body positivity, especially in knitting! I'm happy you brought up your thoughts about your body image. I struggled A LOT over the years with my weight, most recently when I noticed myself gaining weight during the pandemic, and I found that starting my knitting podcast on TH-cam (and having my loving partner!) has been the best thing for my body image and self-esteem. It actually just occurred to me this past weekend that I honestly don't care what my body size is anymore, and that was SUCH a freeing thought. I may be the biggest size I've ever been, but I'm the happiest I've ever been in my life! It has also been so rewarding to have some of my viewers on YT and followers on Instagram share with me how much my positive outlook has helped them. Honestly, seeing their reactions and comments has helped me just as much as I've helped them. Having the hurdle of fitting into a lovely wedding dress that you bought when you were a different size must be very challenging, but I'm SO happy you have such a balanced and positive outlook to it and you're doing it as safely as possible. That alone takes a lot of mental strength, and I'm proud that you are able to avoid falling into an unhealthy diet. When I needed to start the search for my wedding dress, I made the conscious decision to buy online and avoid the dress shops because I felt that the experience of trying on dresses in a shop would hurt my self-esteem, especially if I tried on dress after dress with no success; or worse, they didn't have dresses in my size. I ended up getting a VERY affordable dress from a company called Dorris Dress (dorrisdress.com) that is exactly what I was looking for and I'm so excited to wear it for my wedding!
Awww Whitney this is such a lovely comment! I can’t believe how much we have in common. CrossFit is just amazing I think 🤩 I had this last summer. I was the heaviest I’ve ever been (by quite a lot) and I just…. Didn’t care. Wore whatever I wanted and felt happy and comfortable. The start of fitting into the wedding dress felt unhealthy to me but now I’m feeling so good. Really really enjoying the healthy habits (like CrossFit!) that it has brought. Thankfully my seamstress has promised she’d be able to alter the dress to make it fit which has taken a lot of pressure off. I love comments saying I’ve helped people - that’s the biggest compliment you can receive, I think 🥰 It’s a great idea to buy it online! Not going to lie though, I loved trying on ALL the dresses and would happily go again purely for that 😂
Thank you for the real chat around wedding and body - I got married about 8 months ago and it was, from a body perspective, the hardest thing I've ever done. And looking back, I wish there had been someone to explain the weirdness of "you have to look the best you've looked in your life" and how much that messes with your head. SPOILER you absolutely do not. One major piece of advice for the day is to take a moment, just you, in front of the mirror with your flowers (if you're having flowers). Not to tell yourself you're beautiful, but to remind yourself that everyone who is coming is coming because they love you, not because of how you look in this moment. And to check where you're holding the bouquet to show off that dress best ;)
I just adore your sweater no 20, I had to go and buy the pattern! I do love what you said about body image. Being diagnosed as diabetic last year I have had to eat healthier and so I’ve lost weight quite a bit in the past year due to eating no sugar and low carb. I am by no means slim now but I finally have started knitting myself garments where previously I would knit them for others and mainly knit shawls for myself. It’s due you and your generation showing how knits look on you that I now feel more comfortable wearing them myself so thank you 🙏🏼 🥰
I hope you’re doing okay with diabetes, I know it can require some big changes and be hard to manage! What a lovely thing to know I’m part of making a difference to people ❤️ I wish everyone felt confident enough to make something for themselves, but I believe being able to see knits on others is so important to see knits are for everyone 🥰
I totally feel your sentiments in this video- I’ve been worrying about some of my knitting projects- because one day I’d like to be smaller- and what if my knits don’t fit? But - I think I have to just focus on making things I love for me for now. And focus on my skills and learning to love this craft
I think the “love for me now” is key isn’t it? Sometimes my partner and I speak about the idealised version we have of ourselves (like when I order lots of kale with good intentions 😂) but it’s not always realistic and it can make it harder to enjoy this particular moment.
it's such a nice way to end my weekend watching you and knitting along. thanks for sharing your thoughts on the body image and everything, I hope you are doing well and will continue to love what you do, and I'm sure the wedding will be a lovely affair whatever happens and you will look great! I'm quite short (153ish cm) and during the pandemic I've lost 5kg then gained about 10kg and now I'm starting to lose a bit again, each loss and gain quite obvious on me, esp with my clothes lol but as you said, knitting and knowing my body and getting over that almost fear of not being 'skinny enough' for others had helped me a lot also - the ones I love and love me back are not going to care whether I weigh 5 or 10 kgs more or less
I had to laugh. As Fayla was trying to get on your lap, my Border Collie was doing the same thing and getting tangled in my knitting. Fortunately my tea was safe 😆. I adore Fayla and really enjoy your podcast.
Hahaha Krista, maybe it’s a BC thing? 😂 My friend has one too and he always tries to sit on you. Glad your tea was safe, it was a rookie error on my behalf! Thanks so much for your sweet comment 🥰
Its my favorite episode. I'm huge fan of your podcast, I've watch all episodes. But this one is amazing. My dogs behaves exacly the same. Loving all what you said about body perception and weight loss.
Thank you for a lovely episode. And thank you so so much for talking about the body image and weight. Some days are better and there is definitely highs and lows. I’m not usually too bothered anymore but atm I’m having a low and this made me think about it a bit differently. I’ve always loved your photos and they are always so positive. But I can understand the feelings behind even the cutest smiley photo. You are stunning, I’m sure you know it. ❤️
Thank you so much for your lovely comment ❤️ I feel it is really important to speak openly about body image because it’s easy to think you’re the only one who struggles - certainly I’m guilty of that!
A v neck sweater or open Cardigan helps balance out a busty silhouette. Amy Herzog Fit to Flatter video was eye opening. Agree it is not about slimming it's about creating balance. I'll be knitting more vneck sweaters now that I know.
I like your #oddballknit idea! I have some favorite skeins or partial skeins and want some inspiration for using them because they may be beautiful but I want more people to see the beauty than just me!!
Very nice. I'm loads older than you and I've come to realise that all women feel more or less the same about their bodies. Why is that? Men don't seem to suffer from the same angst. As the years have gone by I've started to value strength and fitness over 'size'. You are such a pretty girl. Your skin is amazing.
That’s a good point Susan… I’m sure men also have things they’re insecure about but it never feels as chronic really as it does for women! Especially not when it comes to strength. Thanks for compliments about my skin - it is helped loads by lots of good makeup 😂 I have lots of small breakouts on my chin just now that can’t be seen on video ☺️
Søde Karoline 😊 jeg ser med fra Danmark og elsker dine podcasts både pga din personlighed og al dit skønne strik. Og din søde hund. Inspirerede og hyggeligt 🤗🥰
Fayla made me laugh, such a cute dog. I adore sweater no 20, I think it’s a beautiful pattern and yours looks perfect. Not sure I can manage those cables yet though!
She’s a little menace, especially today 😂 Thank you! I promise cables are much easier than they look - this is only the second time I’ve knit a garment with cables 🥰
It’s okay to say “slimming”. That’s a true description of the effect some garments in certain colors have. Deeming something as “phobic” however…is the description we should toss out. ☺️
I think I know what you mean by flattering vs. Slimming. It's not about looking skinnier, but very oversized garments can swallow you up and look kind of frumpy, I think. I love the oversized look and never wear anything tight fitting myself, but I also think you have to kind of balance it out. The deeper v neck looks great on you!

You are so sweet and kind. What a calm response to the spilled tea!
Ain’t going to lie, cut out about 30 seconds of me just sat in stunned silence over the little menace 😂
Really enjoyed this, Karoline! Thank you for sharing your thoughts so openly x
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Fayla is such a gem 😂💕 my male black lab was certainly very taken with her throughout the whole video! Thanks for this episode, wonderful as always
She’s a little menace I swear 😂😂😂 Give your lab a chin scratch from me ❤️

Very honest dialog. We all have self image issues.
Definitely! Important to talk about ☺️
I like your #oddballknit idea! I have some favorite skeins or partial skeins and want some inspiration for using them because they may be beautiful but I want more people to see the beauty than just me!!
That’s the exact sentiment!!! Such a shame to have beautiful yarn you don’t want to use.

Jeg er imponeret over den tålmodighed med din skønne hun😉😂. Tak for endnu en skøn strikketid i jeres Selvskab❤️
Det krævede lidt ekstra 😂 Tak fordi du ser med
While watching your podcast I am knitting on a cabled tee, I agree cables are not as difficult as they look, just reading the chart is fun
I’ve really grown to love charts!
Great video! I love your idea for the #oddballalong, I have many and will definitely participate 😊.
So glad to hear it Eleonoor, excited to see what you make 🥰🥰🥰🥰
It’s okay to say “slimming”. That’s a true description of the effect some garments in certain colors have.
Deeming something as “phobic” however…is the description we should toss out. ☺️
Definitely true some colours can be more slimming ☺️
I’m making a ripple bralette from some odd balls off baby wool right now.
Brilliant idea! Definitely on my list
I think I know what you mean by flattering vs. Slimming. It's not about looking skinnier, but very oversized garments can swallow you up and look kind of frumpy, I think. Yes exactly that’s what I mean! I don’t mind not everything being skin tight but I never want to look frumpy.
