Most adorable TV teardown ever haha. Nice work on the remaster - I can see a lot of old TV that was shot directly to video being refreshed this way and released again!
I remember my father buying a Sony trinitron. Finally a TV that would switch on without waiting ages to warm up, thanks dad and RIP. Nice to see a young Bjork too; so beautiful 😍
Incredible work. This kind of unboxing is its own subgenre on TH-cam nowadays and yet before the internet even became what we know it today Bjork just did this to satisfy her wonderful curiosity and leave us with a valuable anecdote about how we look at reality. With the upscale it looks like a random video that would appear in my recommended. Satisfying in many ways.
That last line, "You shouldn't let poets lie to you" always gets me. It's very reminiscent of Captain Disillusioned's line "Love with your heart. Use your head for everything else."
Ironically, what the poet said was very true, she just didn't yet grasp the full meaning of his words. He was talking about the power of media when used to spread lies and propaganda, how we often absorb the content we watch on a subliminal level without really paying attention to whether it's right or wrong.
I remember seeing this back in the day on Channel 4 in the UK and the AMAZING series of programs Bjork did on electronic music makers who build their own instruments. She was ahead of her time. I saw her first live concert as a solo artist in Brixton Academy in 1991. Her performance was incredible and so too was her amazing ecclectric band of musicians. One of the best concerts I have ever been to.
Hi Christian, I really enjoyed Bjork performing her comprehensive teardown - to echo the vast majority I think you did a great job with the upscale. The little cities look better than ever and so does she. Unfortunately, I'm in hospital but this cheered me up no end. Thanks to Lady Fractic and yourself as your videos have certainly kept me calm (and educated) while I'm here. All the best.
I absolutely appreciate how timeless and present moment this video looks after the upscale for the image itself. While that her clothes and hair in the video also appear entirely timeless fashionable to this present moment 35 years later as well. She also has great wisdom in explaning that such complex structures/technology like tvs and electronics can certainly be viewed like a small city for the sum of their parts functionings.
Aamazing what people can do to classic clips and shows.. I mean I found it amazing when we colored WW2 footage.. Keep up the great work! Brining History back to life!

Oh my days. I had such a huge crush on Bjork way back when she was in the music business. I remember loving all her tracks. Even the the ones she had before changing her stage name. I’m sure she is still as beautiful now as she was then. I can listen to her speaking all day.. thanks for this special find.
When I run into any sort of troubleshooting problems I always come back to this video for guidance! Its so informative and she explains things ways... that most professors or scientist just cant convey... or there not quite on her level of crt engineering and knowledge. I cant put my finger on what she has but, Thank you Bjork for your commitment to the community.
Love her music and always listen to her in my mid 50s. The more you listen seems to improve the experience and enjoyment each time. One of the few musical geniuses left for the love of the game that is always pushing boundaries and redefining the musical artform.
My older brother had the Sugarcubes VHS with these short interview segments. We watched it over and over again. I was so fascinated by Bjork in this segment in particular. Very neat to see it upscaled.
Björk is an amazing talented artist, I have enjoyed her music as far back as the sugar cubes, into her solo career... I could sit and listen to her speak about anything... even quantum physics! Such a sweetheart!
This video to me represents an inner child which is so undeniably pure and precious, and fascinated by the world we live in. Untainted by any of the things others wish to manipulate and morph that child into becoming or believing. Part of why I find Björk so wonderfully beautiful is because she’s an embodiment of who that child really should aspire to become. When the rest of life can boil down into a grey, mundane, and meaningless misery, someone like her deciding to show you her imaginative interpretation (just because she felt like it!) of what a complex and confusing mess of circuitry really looks like, it comes as such a special feeling, like the warmest hug when there’s no one else there to offer it to you. I struggle to find the words that really describe how that makes me feel, she evokes expression and curiosity in a way that just makes me smile with an intense and real love of life. The kind of love one has for their mother
I get it, but also I gotta imagine how cute and endearing it is would wear off very quickly when every question and convo turns into an Alice in Wonderland moment. “Parallel thought is fun babe, so did you want mustard on your sandwich or not?” “A funny man with golden hair once approached me in a field on a sunny da-“ 🤬
I know your secret, I've seen your car and left a piece of my cane in it...oh oops that was another car! Seriously, thank you for taking the time to do this. It's nice that we all restore the equipment but there's nothing quite as magical as reliving these moments without the old VCR SLP recording and chopped off audio. You did an amazing job!
I saw this around when it was first broadcast if not during the first US broadcast. And I never get tired of watching this. I'm sure I would have loved Bjork regardless, but this spot reserved a permanent place in my heart for her.
@@TylerMusicBoi I mean, there isn't really a clear-cut definition, maybe. I don't think transistors were used in CRT screens from that era. I can't see any on the circuit board in the video at least. Those black components all look like electrolytic capacitors.
@@YourMJK - Trust me that TV has lots of transistors in it. That was all solid state. THe only tube was the picture tube. The miracle of the transistor is what made the circuit board so small. Even if you eliminated all the IC's in that TV, the boards would not be much bigger. CRT's required strong drive to make them work.. but then again so does flat panels and the LED's that light them. Just in a different way.
I am very technical and I loved her presentation. To most people, that explanation is the only thing they will carry away on how that TV works... and for the most part she is quite accurate. Loved that video.
I like the general message here. It's very grounding, and an attempt to de-mystify technology by just taking it apart and trying to make it a bit more familiar and less mysterious. Bjork is also very right. Don't let poets lie to you!
Bjork is almost right. Don't let poets lie to you. But don't let scientists lie to you either. Heck....don't let anyone lie to you. I also recommend you don't let poets poke you in the eye. :)
As far as I'm concerned, it is fake. You're seeing an AI interpretation of what Bjork looked like based on the source video and training data. The majority of the data in this remastered video has been synthesized.
I watched this way back then, on a commercial VHS tape of a Sugarcubes concert (I think I had two). Two things lingered : the often quoted (on this channel) 'It looks like a little city' (watch your breathy Icelandic Hs when pronouncing city) and 'You shouldn't let poets lie to you', which I took to heart right there and then.
Can Björk do a video on the TH-cam algorithm and explain why this video is glued onto my homepage and won't go away until I click on it. Surely this is not some weird paid placement. I'm sure she will explain. She's so smart 🥰

Always loved this as a quality example of inadvertent ASMR.

@Sanctus Paulus 1962 we call this "simple straight male horny erection" when we see cute ladies like this godess, it's a basic male reaction and almost everybody acted this way back in the days when sex was still legal....just go away please
@Sanctus Paulus 1962 Bjork is the cutest nymph, fairy human. We cannot help but love this creation. I hope that clears that up.
What a great choice of video for upscaling. A young Bjork rescued from 480p by AI.
this was so satisfying! her accent with the slight sandiness is just so wonderful lol. I had no idea she had even done this video, but to see the Bjork herself geeking out on taking apart a TV just makes her more awesome!
At first I was like wow she still looks really young for her age. Then I remembered bear hugging huge TV's back in the day to move them in my room. The video quality is amazing! I can't believe it's from 1988. Amazing work!
It has been remastered and upscale to 4k. The original wasn’t this crisp.
While this one is upscaled from a low quality video, you do realize there were high quality recordings in 1988? And even many years earlier.
@@symphony137 Yes but those were reserved for film or major events such as the super bowl on tv. An interview with an artists wouldn’t have been done with the most expensive equipment.
PCB - Stands for Pretty City Board and you can get it for 5 DOT-ers... LOL Incredible remastering, I didn't know it was until you explained at the end. WOW!
There is a kind of sweet charm to this video. I've never actually seen the original, only heard references made within your channel. I'm very glad you made this available to watch!
My pleasure sir. It’s worth being kept out there.
This is quite possibly THE BEST video on TH-cam. Thank you for sharing.
Of all the bizarre things I expected to see today... Bjork doing a tear down of a Trinitron telly was nowhere near the top of the list. random craziness aside, that is some seriously high quality upscaling. Bravo!
Seeing Björk in the thumbnail gets an automatic like. She's an otherworldly angel, and is even more amazing with upscaled restoration!
I had no idea she even existed!!! It's like reading a new book or watching a new movie and you see a knew character. They feel like all your life they never existed, but once you become to know of them existence, and learn about there history you see just how much, the same, or little time they have been around as of your birth. idk how to put it, its just that a surprise to see and get to know a complete stranger, and know their life is just as much as sonder it is for them as life is to yourself.
Such crazy hair stlye, and she is so cute! if she was born in 2005 and on TikTok she would be FAMOUS for her voice cracking angelic yet britsh ASMR voice she has X3
@@yurithnovasyndicate3910 Easy to be chill with no TV, internet or smart phones where she grew up.
As a guy who got my start editing videotape in the mid eighties right out of high school (3/4” and even some “high end” VHS), my hat’s off to you. Really impressive work. Can’t believe you were able to pull such impressive results out of that stuff. I guarantee that this footage did not look this good even on the original recordings. Cheers
Thank you!!

@@thementalcritic There's still a lot of work that goes into actually running software and getting a good result out of it. It takes time and effort to learn, and if it was just down to the program, anyone could do it.
I saw her in Toronto at the concert hall in 1990. Seems like yesterday. I met a girl there celebrating her 16th birthday and ended up marrying her...thanks Bjork. :)

This has to be the loveliest video I've seen on TH-cam ever, absolutely beautiful.
It wasn't the television that hypnotized me but Bjork herself 😂 man, she looks just WOW!!! Could hear her for all day long
her eyes alone hypnotize me
Yeah, she is absolutely stunning. I love her career as a musician, but this is the first time I admire her as a woman (I always found her pretty, but never enough to grab my attention like it did in this video).
She is very attractive in this video. Lovely.
I love how she's speaking about the CRT in the manner of coils taking good care of the electrons do they display the image properly. It's such a lovely approach to the topic, I'm touched. :)
Most adorable TV teardown ever haha. Nice work on the remaster - I can see a lot of old TV that was shot directly to video being refreshed this way and released again!
Bjork is the best. So adorable. Thanks for fixing her up and making her high-def.
@bab bablona So... What here is not real?
I remember my father buying a Sony trinitron. Finally a TV that would switch on without waiting ages to warm up, thanks dad and RIP. Nice to see a young Bjork too; so beautiful 😍
Incredible work. This kind of unboxing is its own subgenre on TH-cam nowadays and yet before the internet even became what we know it today Bjork just did this to satisfy her wonderful curiosity and leave us with a valuable anecdote about how we look at reality. With the upscale it looks like a random video that would appear in my recommended. Satisfying in many ways.
She is simply too pure for this world.
she's mental and likely has a flawed genetic makeup.
That last line, "You shouldn't let poets lie to you" always gets me. It's very reminiscent of Captain Disillusioned's line "Love with your heart. Use your head for everything else."
Is part of the manual of life 101. I see nothing profound in this.
Ironically, what the poet said was very true, she just didn't yet grasp the full meaning of his words. He was talking about the power of media when used to spread lies and propaganda, how we often absorb the content we watch on a subliminal level without really paying attention to whether it's right or wrong.
@@jd_bruce I wonder if she endorsed vaccination before it was revealed to be as good as useless lmao

Brilliant job on the remaster! Björk is an angel :D. such a legend!
I love her voice, accent, and personality so much. Could listen to her explain stuff all day long.
I would love to see that series of programs.
Is it available anywhere now?
Wait, now I want so much more Bjork ASMR-like content.
Thank you for your kind words! Means a lot 👍🕹️ Please get well soon!! 🙏
I was 13 in 1988 & used to listen to The Sugarcubes on my cassette player. I always loved her voice. She was fantastic in that band.
we're the same age and remember when lifes too good came out. its was just so weirdly amazing.
I was -1 literally
I always wondered what she was like aside from singing. And I love that she is explaining where her interest came from.
This is next level just imagine a few years from now how much better this will get!

I’m sure she is still as beautiful now as she was then. I can listen to her speaking all day.. thanks for this special find.
She's still making music

Your words made my day - I could not express this any better way - we share this same atmosphere, absolutely
Is just a girl talking about a tv. Nothing special.
She’s retained her childlike wonder as an adult
"I struggle to find the words...."
And yet, you typed out a comment that is beautifully insightful. Thank you.
Never realised how much there was to this video, and never seen it looking so good. Well done!
Never realised how much I was in to Bjork....

I saw this around when it was first broadcast if not during the first US broadcast. And I never get tired of watching this. I'm sure I would have loved Bjork regardless, but this spot reserved a permanent place in my heart for her.
The part where she points to the transistors and says “it looks like a city” will never not make me laugh 😂 I love her
There are no transistors here, I believe. All analog electronics which is crazy.
@@YourMJK uhhh pretty sure transistors were in analog electronics
This is just bloody marvelous. Watched it 3x in a row.
Wow this channel is amazing! Bjork is a world treasure!
I like the general message here. It's very grounding, and an attempt to de-mystify technology by just taking it apart and trying to make it a bit more familiar and less mysterious.

Look into the CIA research into how tv can actually lower inhibitions and increases suggestibility. The poet wasn't wrong in the least

I also recommend you don't let poets poke you in the eye. :)
Yep, but make sure to touch those capacitors, it will help you become "de-mystified" real fast.

Just did the maths, this interview originally came out in 1988, making Bjork 23yo here.

As far as I'm concerned, it is fake. You're seeing an AI interpretation of what Bjork looked like based on the source video and training data. The majority of the data in this remastered video has been synthesized.

I’d believe you if you told me this was filmed this year. This upscaling work is seriously impressive!
