Had the 370. I bought for 100 bucks. Dirty carb bald back tire hooked sprocket. Got it home cleaned the carb. Took it down the driveway. Flipped it in 2nd gear. Fun times.
It sounds like my old 1988 Kdx200 the good air-cooled ones .But some one stole it I wish all motorbike thieves got their hands cut off like the old days. Can't ride with one hand!!!
Me too! My dad and I went to the local dealers almost every Friday night and drool over bikes we couldn't afford. I couldn't until the middle of the month when the new magazines came out! Dad and I would get.the latest editions and read them from cover to cover several times. The good ol' days...
My cousin and I would ride our bmx bikes into the county(over an hour away by pedal) to the dealers to stare at the bikes. We did this in the 4th grade. He would catch a series ass whoopin, but my parents were never around. Finally bought my first bike after high school graduation. That was 91”
I bought one of these new from Montgomeryville Honda/Suzuki in PA. Mine was a 1976 RM B. The A was released earlier in the year. The RM C was released in 1977 if memory serves me correctly! Yours is probably the C. I paid less than $1300 for that bike! Great times!
My first real bike. 77 rm100 , with fox air shocks....man now I can’t remember. I don’t remember a steel tank. Possibly I had a 78 maybe. Love this channel.
If I remember right those were called the "Screaming yellow zongers" at the time! Decoster put those on the map!! Great bike!! Love those classic MX bikes. Had that "crack" sound, loved it!!
Hey Ken. You know a million times more than I do about bikes but I think 78 was the last year for metal tanks. I had a 78 rm80 that looked just like this but of course smaller. Dear Lord does this yellow masterpiece bring back PRECIOUS MEMORIES. THANK YOU SIR!!!!
I have the same age, 55, and I remember my uncles working in the garage one night before racing, tunning the Bultacos, RMs or Montesas, and then people ask me why I still love bikes!!! I still smell the two stroke exhaust mix and get excited!
I bought a 1977RM100 Brand New , I love the RMs ,they dominated in those years ! Killer bike , I dont care what anyone says those were the good old days !! Thank You for the great videos !
Just exciting to look at. I can only imagine the feeling and emotions and memories that would be inspired by riding it. I was 11 in 77. Life revolved around my rm 80.
I remember those years.Suzuki Dominated The World Motocross Championships back then with Joel Roberts in The 250 class and Roger DeCoster in the 500 class.
Roger DeCoster and Joel Roberts were Awesome in The 1970's in World Motocross Racing.Joel Roberts won Five 250 World Championships and Roger DeCoster won Three 500 World Championships All on Factory Suzuki's.This is where the technology for The RM's came from. Before we Americans caught up with them.Mark Barnett Dominated The 125 Class here in America on Suzuki's RM's and Tony Destefano and Kent Howerton were Winning 250 Nationals Titles. At the Local Motocross tracks Your chances of winning races were greatly increased if You were riding Suzuki RM's.
Being 12 myself back then, that was such a cool time to grow up here in the states. The fun and memories are timeless. Cool to see the old bikes from then.
I have 2 1978 RM 250s in the shop in crates helped this guy clean out his falling down garage n we came across them n he forgot they were in there he gave them to me for helping him 20 yrs later i still have them lol hidden barn fine id guess u could say but the best part was he usta race them both back in the days Suzuki gave them to him ❤ excellent video as always brother👍👍👍
I had a 78 1/2 rm 250 back in the day it was around 1990 an I was beating all my buddies no prob with their newer mo oshock watercooled units. It was a blast here I was on a 100 dollar beater I rebuilt an it was awesome boyeson reeds an a wiseco piston with a good pipe an she was moo in lol
I bought a 1977 RM-125 in 1981 from a friend. It had wore out rings and lots of play in the crank/rod. I cracked the case and rebuilt the entire engine. No TH-cam back then. After I had it together, I hand ported the head and installed a racing reed. That thing was fast. I was riding canal roads in Idaho when I ran a short way onto a gravel county road. A county cop lit me up and I ran 1/8 mile to a farm field road. The irrigation water had flooded a patch of mud 25 feet wide, I hit it and almost wrecked but landed on dry ground. The county cop waved at me to come to him. He didn’t dare drive his car thru that mud. Haha. My bike was really hot so I had to make sure it didn’t die. You can never restart a hot air cooled 2 stroke. He was calling for help on his radio and I waved good bye as he madly gestured “come here” and I raced away! I hid in a dug out area along a canal. I could hear the cops racing around for an hour! Lol my bike cooled and I started it and idled home to keep the noise down. I bet that Canyon County Sheriff Deputy used some colorful language on my behalf! Lol
I had the ‘78 Suzuki RM250 version off the showroom floor that lasted about 6 months before it threw a rod through the case. Never raced. Last Suzuki I ever purchased or rode.
I always wanted a TM 125,at the time I was riding a Honda SL 100.IT was a good trail bike and great bike to learn how to ride on but I always wanted a Motocross Bike and to race.My first real Motocross Bike was A 1979 Suzuki RM 125N. A world of difference from that little Honda. But it should have been since it was The No.1 rated 125 Motocross Bike By Motocross Racing Magazine that year.
I got my first bike when I was 13 years old it was a Suzuki TS 125 and I rode it for a couple of years and got rid of it and then got me a Suzuki TM 125 to ride until I was 19 when I got gif of it and never got another one and I just wish I had one of those bike back I love to smell of old two strokes bikes.
Those old air cooled RMs had way more low end power than the later ones. My brother had a 77 rm80, totally different power curve than the liquid cooled ones. Really fast and really reliable too. That thing ran forever. Had to re ring it a few times
Love your videos. Great attitude and very professional. My dad and I shared a love for motorcycles until his passing and I have many fond memories of walking showroom floors in the 1980's drooling over bikes and ATV's we couldn't afford. At one time he bought a new Suzuki GT380 and I would sit in front of him on the gas tank and go for rides. The good ol'days... I hope to visit the museum someday soon. 🇺🇸👍💪✌
This is the first MX I've seen way back in 1977. I was 15 years old and immediately fallen in love with it. Couldn't afford it then, eventually I bought its tamer sibling TS125 from Suzuki. Such a nostalgic bike. Love to own it even now hehh...
I remember going to the trails then getting chased by the cops on the way home. The RM250 doesn’t idle on its own, you have to have your hand on the throttle. The idea is if you go down on bike it shuts off. Great times!! Grew up on RM80, went to RM125 and eventually the RM250. Kaplan mentioned RM 100, don’t remember Suzuki making that but maybe I’m mistaken, I did hit my head a lot back then when riding....lol
any carburated bike can idle if u want..u can raise the carb slide up a hair from you throttle adjuster on the bars or raise it by the top cap brass nut can be turned up or down to raise idle speed cuz thats all the actual idle screw does...its in the carb bodyt at almost 45 degree angle and when you turn in it pushes up on the slide the farthere you go in....so 3 ways to mitigate the idle issues w old smokers and bikes alike.... i made my rm250 1978 model idle by doing just those things above
I had a 1979 RM 80, It was crap. Best bike I ever had was the 83 RM 250, that bike was absolutely pure bliss and a killer on the track. Old bikes brings back such memories, beautiful classic crosser for sure however I preferred the late 70’s Yamaha YZ 250.
in 1990 i was 14 years old, my dad got me a 1978 rm125, in 1990 it wasn't old enough to be a classic but old enough to be past it as a serious motorcross competitor, so it didn't cost allot he paid £150 for it, i loved it and rode it daily, the kid i sold it to 2 years later still has it and has no intention of selling it back to me. good days good memorys.
My first real bike! oh God, I miss miss Suzie, I was eighteen and used this machine as a dualsport bike !! A friend of my dad had one and racing with it, never forget the grindy sound of the beast in the valleys and his De Coster shirt ! from that moment, I never left Suzuki, still got a PE 175 but wanna purchase the 250 one.
My folks bought me one of these when I was in 6 th grade. I was too small to start it when it was cold but after it was warmed up look out! Loved that bike. It was my motivation to work. You totally nailed it comparing it to the cr250. I remember reading a dirt bike magazine and it had this big write up on the 77 cr and all the stuff you could do to make it better. At the end of the article it said “or you could just buy a stock Rm 250!” That was awesome ! Great memories.
Had a 77 rm125. Picked it up real cheap. Was yellow on one side and white on the other from laying on its side outdoors for so long. Welded the kick shaft and shifters back on, new cables and rode it.
This right here was one of the most badass bikes i ever owned. Mine was a 76 though. Well until i traded it for a blown up 86 CR500 that just needed a new top end then i found out what a whole new definition of badass was. If anyone out there bought a 86 CR500 in Denham Springs LA around 2007 holler at me. Id love to know where that bike is today.
The Elsinore came after the XR.That was Honda's first Real Motocross Bike. The Suzuki TM came before the RM's.I think The YZ's came around about the same time as the Suzuki TM's.
My first new bike was a 77 RM100. Loved it. Easy to work on, and fun to ride. Back then it you either owned a RM or a YZ. That’s all that was available in my area for 80s and 100s.
I had a '77 PE 250...thing was nuts. The dude before the dude I got it from busted his knee on a tree with it as the lore goes. The guy I got it from had it since he was young. First bike I ever sat on. I was like 12 when my dad and this guy were standing next to me drinking some Buds and I gave it a little throttle... bike came straight up and both of them grabbed the bars and pushed it back down. I bought it years later. Good memories. A beast. Scary bike. I'm more of a 4 stroke guy. Power band on this when I first started to ride it made me a tad apprehensive. I was playing on it as I remember around '93...it felt ancient then.
Showing my age now. I bought one of them them when i was a 1st year apprentice in 1978. 2nd hand but like new $300 aus. Hahaha i earned $62 a week took me months to save up for it.
I seen a guy pushing one of those down the street once. Next thing you know it's at my house. The next thing you know my dad has it running. He's an old desert racer.
I'll be buying a bike soon and this is the kind of bike I'll be looking for. This is a all-rounder, of road and on. A really beautiful bike. I've had a cupple of Enduro scramblers and I loved both of. I like the up high feeling on scramblers and with a bit of power the two fifty is ideal. This bike will be snapped up as soon as it's up for sale.
I had one that was my dads bike. Im not sure what year it was had green on the number plates. It got stolen with some of my other stuff and damn do i miss that bike it was a monster. My brother had the cr 480 and that 250 would run right with her. I did blow her up once doing that but it was some of the best moments I've lived. I wish i still had it !!!
bad ass bike i usta build the rodger decosta modle of that bike i had a xr 80 then i was8 when that bike was out that bike was loud i watched them race at cape way rovers in miidleboro mass we ownd the cranberry bogs next to the track people brought ther bikes down in uhauls staition wagons towed behined a vw bug flat nose vans good old days it wasnt a rich sport then you raced what you had or made but that bike was bad ass untill JoJo Keller came a year or two later on his cr and purple betencorts honda shirt i was at first berm and jump good old days love the 70s🇺🇲🏁🇺🇲🏁🇺🇲🏁🇺🇲
@@KaplanCycles wow awsome we ownd the bogs next to the track of plymoth st i was at cape way two weks ago i still hit the trails there i was a flag man there in the 80 raced bmx the in the 80s i know all trails and bogs i was very lucky to have had parents that let me ride and the home i grew up in and the memories there i had thats so cool you raced ther to much respect Cap 👍🏁🇺🇲🏁👍🏁🇺🇲🏁👍🇺🇲

I have a 1974 Suzuki ts250 2 stroke in perfect running condition and has plenty of power. Let me know if you would be interested in it.
Been restoring a ‘79 KX250 A5 for the past 4 years
Better turn Conneticutt... and the COUNTRY RED, or that bike will be scrapped like they want my AR!!!!
@jpb1231000 surely you don't think this is one sided
God Bless America,,,, As it slides into the open drain pipe ,,,, Australia ....
Those older pre-power valved 2 strokes had a crack to the exhaust note that later models just don't have. I love that sound. Brings back memories.
@@nomasker1360 it’s because there is no power valve in the exhaust blocking the port from opening almost instantly like in non power valved bikes.
Had the 370. I bought for 100 bucks. Dirty carb bald back tire hooked sprocket. Got it home cleaned the carb. Took it down the driveway. Flipped it in 2nd gear. Fun times.
Who thumbs down this?, maybe you should be on the knitting channel!.

Gorgeous. Used to stare at the dealer fliers for hours as a kid.light is right.

I had one of these in the late 70s. I used to race it on Sundays when I was fearless. This bike put out more HP than my VW.
If I remember right those were called the "Screaming yellow zongers" at the time! Decoster put those on the map!! Great bike!! Love those classic MX bikes. Had that "crack" sound, loved it!!
My brother had a 77 rm125. Tons of fun but so loud. You could hear it 1/2 mile away easy.
Yeah they are loud!
A freinds had 1980rm80 it was loud
I had a 77 rm 250, had the cops called on me many times because it was so loud!

My first bike, a RM125 1977. Thanks for this upload.
Love how the late 70s dual shock bikes looked when they finally got some suspension travel and the seat height is as tall as could be.

Solid motors and tough bikes.

The RM's were awsome in 77 even the eighty had that RM look I think it was Dirt Bike magazine called it the YZ head hunter
Id love to know where that bike is today.
in my head...there was the SL, then then the XR, then the YZ and then the RM...and then it became impossible.
The Elsinore came after the XR.That was Honda's first Real Motocross Bike. The Suzuki TM came before the RM's.I think The YZ's came around about the same time as the Suzuki TM's.
Hey Ken, just watched the discovery episode on TH-cam because it wasn't aired here in Canada. F'ing awesome.
I would die and kill to have her! Beautiful!!
I remember watching DiStefano race at the Super Bowl of MX in Atlanta as a kid
My first new bike was a 77 RM100. Loved it. Easy to work on, and fun to ride. Back then it you either owned a RM or a YZ. That’s all that was available in my area for 80s and 100s.
Can hardly wait to get my 1976 rm250A up and running. My bike is not in as of nice condition as that bike
Great wage for 78
If you earned 62 a week, you would receive 248 a month! So... After a month and a half you could buy it and use the remain cash for gas. Not that bad!
Gorgeous Bike. I love the vintage 2 stroke MX bikes of the 70's and 80's. Looks new out of the crate.
Best sounding bike, thus far.
