My father has a bone stock 78 1/2 RM250 and it’s all original has no hours on it I even has the original manual that came with it. Great bike loads of power.
I had a T model 1980 RM 250 for a while , bought it from my brother, very similar to this bike, my brother owned an N model 250 as well which was a 1979 model, it had the squared of guards, great bikes, bullet proof, always enjoy the show and the bikes you guys have there.
Sweeet...I had and raced this bike but a 125.fox airshox, thor swing arm,Simon's forks and a DG radial head....a whopping 12 inches of travel on each end...was a great bike.👍
I am 61 yrs old , I love anything dirt since I could remember, BMX ,MOTO , THERES nothing like going to the track on any Sunday , the smell of dirt , the exhaust, , AND I have to say that I have never seen someone that loves it more then KAPLAN , it's in your DNA EVERY DAY , DAY IN DAY OUT , ONE DAY TO BE ABLE TO COME OUT THERE IS BUCKET LIST MOMENT
That's my baby! Bought one off the showroom floor and put a pair of fox air's on it. Those plates were green from the factory, the black looks better. Those were great days! I would love to have my baby back!
rode a 1988 cr125 for my first bike and now own a 2003 RM250 with a couple mods. Once I get my stuff together I want to buy my next bike from these guys.
A friend had a stock 250b in the 80s , to this day I've all ways wanted one , it was awesome to ride , in Australia they rare ,as rocking horse shit 😃😚✌
Gooo on cap thanks for keeping my dreams alive my late bro,s friend gav had one new in 78 I was nine and loved it! weeks before my brother,s death I took him to watch me ride a local funduro , and introduced him to my friend matt who had a friend with him it was gav !!! No way they didn't recognise each other they had not seen each other in years UNTIL I MENTIONED THE RM HIS FRIEND HAD AND MISQUOTED HIS NAME MY BROTHER SAID no that was gav IT WAS THE SAME GAV AND THEY WERE REUNITED!!! THERE WERE TEARS and o lot of JOY! THE LORD WORKS IN MYSTERIOUS WAYS. BIG THANKS CAP YOUR TRUTH HAS POWER.😅
I was wondering if you guys at Kaplan have ever done a 1980 yz50 g. I own one, not quite to your restoration specs, but a damn good axle to axle frame off resto
What are the differences from the 78 to the 78.5. Pardon my ignorance i am nut and bolt restoring my 79 rm400 and have an all orginal 79 rm100 and there are nearly 0 79 parts on there from what i can see. What sets it apart from the 78?
Aluminum swingarm and plastic gas tank and I'm sure a bit more unseen changes to the motor. The swingarm on Kaplan's build is not the stock swingarm the 78 1/2 came with.
The problem is that is we just spent 100 hours restoring it as soon as we take it off road a lot of that value is gone it's no longer right now brand new
I had the 78 RM80 and my buddy had the 78 RM 125 he had to leave it at my house cause his parents didn’t want him to have a bike at all!! Needless to say I would ride his bike more than mine!!! Sorry Richard 😂😂
And that head is a rare find. I went through a phase of picking up DG extrusion radial heads when they came up for sale, but the porcupines are a hard find. Good on ya!!!
I had that same bike back in 1983 , , , What a beast ! ! ! I WANT , I NEED , I HAVE TO HAVE ............ WIFE SAYS NO YOU`LL KILL YOURSELF AT 54 ! LOL, , , Maybe she is right . . . . Maybe just a spin around the back yard ????? : )
I had a RM125 when I was 14-15 years old, I'm 60 now.
I ran this bike to top ten Mr. Pibb AMA nationals in 78
My father has a bone stock 78 1/2 RM250 and it’s all original has no hours on it I even has the original manual that came with it. Great bike loads of power.
The smell....the sound! Brings me back. Love it.

Good lord i love the sound of an air cooled 2 Stroke! Absolutely music to my ears 🫶🏻🤘🏻
Sweeet...I had and raced this bike but a 125.fox airshox, thor swing arm,Simon's forks and a DG radial head....a whopping 12 inches of travel on each end...was a great bike.👍
Simon fork's looked so bad ass back in the day. Dug the yellow paint.
These were so so good .
Power handles no breakdowns.
Rode raced one new in 1978.
I was 16.
Had a Montessa and Husqvarna 250.
This was so much better.
I had the 78 Husqvarna 250CR. Worst MX bike I ever owned!
@@mxbadboy263 1981-83 were ok in Enduro .
I kinda liked the Swedish made Husqvarna then.
But Japan bikes just took over .
That was the first bike I ever raced and wish I still had it.
Always liked these growing up. .Rm 100 ! Also rode a buddies rm 400 late 89 early 90 ! What a power band !
That bike is absolute perfection. That's the exact bike I used to dream of as a young lad. Sweet! 💯👍
I like the Kawasaki KX foot pegs on it! Much wider than what came stock!
A mate of mine had one of these in the early eighties, the memory of it is still with me, a truly remarkable bike.
Beauty!!! Miss that era, though I was young I rode many of the 2 Stroke bikes of all sizes!!!
That's my baby! Bought one off the showroom floor and put a pair of fox air's on it. Those plates were green from the factory, the black looks better. Those were great days! I would love to have my baby back!
That's awesome! You guys really are super heroes, saving all the 2 strokes! 😎🤘☠️
This and the elsinore from the same year are such beautiful pieces of art!
I rode a 1979 RM 100 as well, Screamer..
I came close to getting one of those back in the day. Sounds like smooth and easy to control power. This one is really nice.
I had one of theses engines on a racing Kart. It went well a beast. Thanks Ken.
What a beauty , nice work..those shocks best upgrade 👌💪
My xr swing arm looks identical polished so much it looks chrome .

rode a 1988 cr125 for my first bike and now own a 2003 RM250 with a couple mods. Once I get my stuff together I want to buy my next bike from these guys.
That is really nice. In 78 I was racing its little half brother a 78 RM125.
Back in 1978, I was riding a 1974 Suzuki TM 400. I would've loved to have the RM. The suspension difference was like night & day.
thought fmf made the porcupine head? DG was the gold radial head i think? still very cool!!
Yeah, he's mistaken on quite a few things on this bike.
Great work nice on the restore wish I could afford something like that but I'm sure some lucky guy or gal will get that bike it's a gem
My xr swing arm looks identical polished so much it looks chrome .
Been telling ya I got one of these pristine condition now I’m bout to ride it lol
Pretty sure the fox air shocks was the hot ticket back in them days
A set of Fox Air's would have made this build awesome.
A friend had a stock 250b in the 80s , to this day I've all ways wanted one , it was awesome to ride , in Australia they rare ,as rocking horse shit 😃😚✌
Needed those shocks on my 78400. Great motor.
Hey ken you should paint that back wall and put your logo on it it would look really good 😊
Had one just like this, but used to trail and desert ride it
Fast, good handling, reliable, and super easy to work on.
Great bike.
My friend used to race a 100. Memories
Id have to paint those shock springs black.
Over 10 grand in a rm 250 ! Holy crap myself
Awesome RM and congrats on the show stopper

I was wondering if you guys at Kaplan have ever done a 1980 yz50 g. I own one, not quite to your restoration specs, but a damn good axle to axle frame off resto
Drool machine, just before my square fender '79RM
Badass old school motocross weapon .😮
Im restoring a 1990 yz125 and want to know ...How do you source parts that are seemingly unobtainium? Im having a hard time and need help!!!

Devin restored this one

Did they go good for what they were?
I just saw the pe 250 vid u posted lol cool✌️
sounds wicked 💪
Built a mini motocross/enduro track behind the building, so we can see these bikes run in the dirt.
The problem is that is we just spent 100 hours restoring it as soon as we take it off road a lot of that value is gone it's no longer right now brand new

Fantastic!!! You know what is wrong with this video??….absolutely nothing!!!!👍👍
One thing wrong - after having a lot of two strokes myself, frustrated me when you keep up shifting like a four stroke, rather than letting it Spinout
One of the best race bikes I ever owned.
Kaplan rocks.
