    I try and go grocery shopping once a week. I have 8 kids who love milk, so I buy 5-6 gallons a week. We have a milk shelf in the fridge. To new plan, I look through what we have in the freezer protein wise, look at the weather/calendar & plan meals that make sense for the busyness of the day and weather. I have some very picky kids, so 3-4 times a week we have dinners they will like, then normal food the other 3-4 times per week. Whatever I feel like making or if someone requests something.

    Family of now 3 left at home...I go through our pantries, freezers and fridges....take inventory, look at our calendar, see events coming up....start planning meals using what items we have...loved seeing your haul...

    I really try to shop once a week and come up with 5-6 meals. Once we eat through those, I do it again - that simple. We also live in a small city, we are surrounded by small mom-and-pop shops and even if we run out of something, it's very easy to go buy it. I can't believe your oldest is 17 now!!!

    LOVED THIS! Keep bringing us the grocery hauls. We are a family of 3, I homeschool and my husband works from home. We got through a lot of food. I used to meal plan by the month, but that doesn't work for our current season of life. So, I basically gather meal ideas the night before now. I focus on what needs used in the fridge, and then fill in with meat from our freezers. I usually grocery shop each week, but the last month we have been so busy that I have been going every 2 weeks. I just keep working on using up our fresh produce and then when that is depleted, it's shopping time again. I kind of like it.

    I love grocery haul videos! I’m always fascinated, especially w/ large family grocery shopping. It’s just me and my 19 y/o daughter who isn’t always home to eat. I shop every Sunday and think ahead what is one repetitive food choice I can make to have for dinner for several days in a row and a different repetitive food choice I can eat for lunch 4 days in a row (I focus just on my work days for lunch). Most times it works well for my household but sometimes it’s a flop 😂

    Loved this! And you being back!! Ive been trying to make meals with what I have left in the fridge and pantry when I feel like there isnt anything left. Keeping myself out of the store for an extra day or two several times a month is helping a little with the grocery budget. Food is just expensive and in this season its always a struggle between convienence and budget. We typically go every 7 to 10 days. ❤

    I always enjoy your grocery hauls. We live on a ranch, it's about 1 hour each way to go to the grocery store so we usually go once a week. I make a list of 5-6 dinners and make my grocery list based on those. We always keep our favorite simple breakfast and lunch staples on hand and rotate through those and that's it. I don't even plan what dinner for what day of the week but it is important to have at least a general list of meals because if I don't have the ingredients I need it takes an hour to go get what I'm missing 😅

    I am currently pregnant with my 4th and I try to shop weekly. I wish I could say I meal plan but I don’t really. I try to cook a big pot that’ll last a couple of days. I need to find my staple foods that we eat on a regular basis. It’s always inspiring to see hauls like this especially from large families.

    I am alone and I don’t meal plan, but I eat about the same throughout the week, so it’s easy to shop for it.

    "I could shred my own lettuce, but I don't want to!"
    That made me 😂😂 because I'm the same way! At least your family is eating veggies.
    Edited to add: does Lucy still like to snack on shredded lettuce? I remember you mentioning that in a grocery haul a few years ago.

    It's always neat to see how people plan their week . Thanks for sharing, but dont feel like you have to for us! It sounds exhausting to do all that and film and talk over each item! Hopefully you were able to get some rest afterwards ❤
    Grocery shopping is not my favorite, but its gotta be done. I go a couple days a week to the store or have my husband pick up stuff for one of the days as he works close to an Aldi and at that point it is just a few things we need. I like cooking and baking , but still don't want to overcomplicate recipes. We homeschool at this time and we have 6 of us at our house. Still getting use to how much my family is eating these days! 3 of my kids eat like teenagers and we have 2 adults and my youngest is 11 , but she eats good too!
    Take care, Ashley ❤ I pray you are well!

    I meal plan for our family of 10 once a month but ahop weekly. We have some storage but our fridge is small (waiting on a kitchen remodel but now we have kids going to college and braces and....).

    If you're curious, thymol is the active ingredient in the Seventh Generation cleaner, and that's a chemical found naturally in rosemary, thyme, and a few other herbs. So that's why it smells like rosemary!

  • @Maiju86

    I imagine that your kitchen is normal sized for us Europeans. 😅 I dream about bigger fridge or separate fridge for the produce... The fruit go bad quickly during the summer when they are on the counter. We are a family of 5 and I still have to learn to meal plan... Our problem however is that the kids, especially one kid, doesn't eat the same food as other people. How do you deal with children who don't want to eat the stuff you cook? How would you deal with a child who maybe has some kind of sensory issues related to food? I would be interested in seeing a whole video about this topic. 😅

    Indeed my mealplan has some flexibility otherwise it would not work. Had cajun chicken burgers on the menu today but didn't get around to it so that will be tomorrow and something else we'll keep in the freezer for another time. Though I like trying new recipes and have variety in my meals all are simple. I love cooking but it's not my season of life right now to make elaborate meals. Sometimes I'm happy to just get food on the table.

    Thoughts on organic? I’m surprised to not see any in your haul. I’ve been so stressed lately thinking we need to eat all organic super clean but with food prices it’s just causing anxiety but I feel guilty if I just buy normal :/

    • @ashleighnicolewilson
      @ashleighnicolewilson  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We used to buy a LOT of organic only. The simple fact is, we just can’t afford to do that with prices so high. So we don’t. Because what’s important to me is that my family eats. It was a actually a big pride thing that I had to release.

    How do y’all have spaghetti and lasagna with two jars of sauce or do you have more at home? I grocery shop once a week and do Walmart pickup orders bc I hate going in although I would if we had an Aldi here! Groceries are so expensive!

    • @ashleighnicolewilson
      @ashleighnicolewilson  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I had an extra jar for spaghetti, but I prefer a thicker meat sauce with lasagna so one does the trick!

    Can you share your chicken and potatoes recipe, please?
    We are a small family, and we have next to no storage room; so we shop when we need to. If that's once a week, great. If it's every 3 or 4 days, okay. Whatever. With special needs, and dietary restrictions, shopping is a chore. And since we live in a VERY rural area, we make do with what we can get.

    • @elizabethwoffordgirard7103
      @elizabethwoffordgirard7103 ปีที่แล้ว

      We have special and dietary needs as well so I agree that shopping can be tiresome.

    We are a family of 4. We grocery shop anywhere from 1 month to 5 months between trips. We buy in bulk so we only shop if we have a reason to travel 3.5-5 hours. I teach so we go at minimum at the beginning of each break so I can make 30-60ish freezer meals. I make a item list of everything needed for freezer meals. Plan out 3-4 dinners made per week. Add those items to the list. Then inventory for what we actually need. All in a spreadsheet. Takes some time but we save time by not grocery shopping super often.

    We would never be able to have all the individual wants per person. Just financially it would drown us. But it is funny to hear the preferences.

    This video made me curious about what your family are doing these days regarding diet and religion. For example, I remember at one point you and Peter were doing intermittent fasting, is that still going on? And I think last I heard regarding faith, you had stopped identifying as Torah observant Christians because it was not really possible to be one...? Perhaps these would be good topics for another video or maybe it's only me that's curious about those things.

      She posts this on any large family channel. Thinks she knows us all and thinks we all must surely be on govt help if we have many kids. I agree with the others that she had some deep down problems and issues.
