Oh.... since you used live water which contains bacteria. I wonder if algae will grow coating the inside of the glass ball. I watched Cody's Lab do a sealed system and that is exactly what happened it might be cool looking or it could go the other way. This will be interesting to find out as time passes
I was also wondering about the possibility of algae growth using aquarium water, you’ll just have to do regular water changes, that should make for another interesting video.
It'll depend on how much light hits these. Without food coming into the water the bacteria might die off, and without the bacteria there might not be enough nutrients for algae to grow.
These turned out awesome, Ben!!! Unfortunately, I didn’t see anything from the pot cam, but they look like whatever leaked didn’t do so for long! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Your knob's a beaut mate! ...I'm wondering if the water will go cloudy - it's not sterile, but then again it's in an anaerobic environment, so hard to say. I was shocked that both pressure changes didn't pop the spheres too. Amazing work!
i had the same thought but it was most likely sterilized when he blasted it with UV for a few minutes, it would be interesting to see if anything survived.
They look amazing! I had a young lady come to me with a pair of earrings she'd inherited from her grandma, heart shaped opals set around a star, I thought they were lovely as is, but she was 16 and they weren't her thing, she wanted a beach theme also. So I cut off the opals and put them into a pendant and earrings that contained oil, rather than water, using her grandma's ashes as the sand. The opals floated around in the oil, and I managed to save the star part of the earrings for her to continue wearing. I wish I'd seen this video at the time, I spent all day on just the pendant lol She was over the moon with them though, so to me it was worth it, just for her reaction alone. great video, thanks so much x
Oh my gosh when you said how you wondered if the sand and shells had scratched the inside of the glass I mentally was groaning nooooooo imagine all that work ruined! So so glad they worked out beautifully.
They came out really good. I love the magnification that happens when you turn a globe. Many years ago I went to make a simple gear knob using a glass light bulb as the mould. Poured a layer and put a 5 cent piece in and poured another layer. Sometime after the second layer someone knocked it over and broke the glass mould. Needless to say the gear knob become a paper weight and everyone liked how big the 5 cent piece looked. I moved house and it disappeared. One day I might make another. Hope your feeling better now. Get well soon. 👍🏻
Ben, the sand and water came ot during the vacuum process. When you applied the vacuum, the air in the knobs expanded, forcing out some sand and water. It only happened on one because the other one must have had a better seal. 👍 Nice knobs!! 👍👍👍
It looked to me that when you sealed the glass bulb, that the acrylic disk was just a bit off the rim on one side. Perhaps a bit of water and sand escaped before the UV was completely solid. But beautiful stuff as usual Ben. Feel better 😷 😊 soon.
Ben! I can't believe I didn't ask you to do this. (To make knobs. Not exactly the way your doing it. Which is much better than what I thought of, but you get the idea.) I asked Nick Zammeti a couple of times. He didn't seem interested. But you always know a great idea when you read it! 😂 I'm so excited to finish watching...
Had to back track to pot cam, nothing seemed to leak, no problem they are gorgeous and filled with memories. Great project, the little glass balls are so cute 😁💕👍 Thank you
These look great! I hope the fish water doesn't make them cloudy over time. If you do any more like these, I would suggest using sterilized water. I think you should play with this idea more. Like add a drop or 2 of transparent color, or turn the resin layer larger than the shaker glass layer so it will look like a large bubble inside of the resin layer. Hope you get better soon. 💕
Yeah, definitely do more spherical things because it's such a mind trip to not know where something ends or begins inside of the polished piece. Trippy and cool. :)
Hey bud you know black sand with the neon black light reactivate colored shells would look really cool. Especially onnthe fish tank cabinet. It will give some contrast
Take care of yourself Ben...these turned out beautifully!!! Maybe do a quick follow up to see if any algae growth happens or water Tues cloudy....or not...Thanks from Canada!!!
It would be cool if you did regular sized door knobs for other doors in your house. They could be resin filled with the theme of the room or with something the person likes who stays in that room. I liked how you showed the knobs being put on the doors. If I had a door knob made it would have The General Lee (from "The Dukes of Hazzard") matchbox car in it. I am a huge fan of that show...AND your channel Keep up with your awesome creativity!
after the pour and the balls went flat. i started to worry. then as you turned the knobs on the leathe i worried you might hit glass. i need to stop worrying so much. nice knobs too.
So the opposite of me minus the colored hair (mostly due to being bald) and my germanic and Irish heritage! I miss my teen days in the late 70s early 80s when purple hair made me "Queer"... 🤪 and now I get referred to as a cigarette from Britain.
Thanks for stopping by, If you have time you can check out my new range of Eggs here www.etsy.com/shop/bensworx
Feel better, mate. Also, is that resin dust at the end there, or are you turning grey? 🤔
I'm from Egypt how can I pay eggs I don't know help me if you know
get better mate!
Won't the water and sand erode the glass inside or make it cloudy over time?
Also I'd probably use distilled water next time lol

Yeah that’s one of the reasons I used my tank water instead of an oil based liquid 😊
Perhaps sunlight may have some effects on algae growing inside of it.
I was also wondering about the possibility of algae growth using aquarium water, you’ll just have to do regular water changes, that should make for another interesting video.

Always fun watching Ben polish his knob on a Friday evening. 😂
Beautiful work as always!
Thanks Mate 😊
O.O oh boy... I didn't realized THAT
🤣🤣🤣🤣
This was the joke I was trying to make. Well done.
I didn’t want to say anything but…. Ooo yeah…😂
I wasn’t expecting the resin to cause such a magnified effect. It turned out super pretty so congratulations!!!
Thanks Kara
The centrifugal force of the speed your turning probably keeps it all to one side.
an unbreakable snowglobe!

I noticed that; he also should have added a little weight to the acrylic before turning on the UV light.
Nice pair of knobs the Ben! 👍 next week on Ben's Worx we see Ben make a lovely pair of Knockers 🤣🤣👍
Gorgeous fish tank!
I really enjoyed the way you polished those knobs. 😉
😊
Those are a couple of the coolest things I have seen. I like little details with flair.
This is the only time, asking people to check out your knobs is allowed.
You need to make more of these, I'd definitely get them off your etsy.
I was today years old when I learned of these knobs. Great work. TFS

So utterly satisfying to watch the resin round out as you have it on the lathe
