If anyone wants to connect 2 batteries in parallel safely, Use a diode Isolator or a full wave bridge or a dual diode center Tap Common Anode diode set to isolate the batteries. The current will never try to equalize between the batteries. The only con to this is, the 0.7 of a volt drop across the diodes to the load or motor control. So there will be a slight top speed loss. You will still need to charge the batteries separately. The pro to using the diodes apposed to a switch is the current will be provided from both batteries simultaneously for more power for when you are pulling hills. It also can be located near the control and no need to extend the wires to a switch located near the handlebars, its automatic load sourcing. Shiva you can comment on this a approach. Note: The Diodes Must Be Rated for 20 Amps or above. The Voltage Drop across the diodes is a 2.6% loss of Power to the Motor at full current.
Hi Thomas, that is an excellent idea! Diodes would provide that benefit of simultaneous current draw from both batteries. However, the controller has a limiter at 10A, so even if you can draw more current, it won't be used by the controller. Both of these batteries can output about 30A each, but only 10A is being used. I recently upgraded my controller and I can now safely draw about 13A, giving me higher speed and a little bit more power. Thanks for your very detail insight, this is interesting and useful. I really appreciate it.

for those considering a parallel connection, Bolton ebikes sells the Dual Battery Parallel connector which allows you to use the different voltages when the two batteries are not charged evenly.
I believe when you connect two batteries together of the same voltage the amp hour doesn't really matter. All you are doing is creating one bigger battery. Be sure to disconnect the batteries when charging and be sure both are fully charged before you plug them back together. If you charge both batteries while connected with the charge port on the bike you will be bypassing the BMS in the extra battery. In time the extra battery will become unbalanced and shortening the life of that battery. Best to disconnect the batteries and charge both to full before reconnecting. If a battery has high resistance it will self discharge itself and if connected in parallel with another battery it will discharge that battery as well. Have fun and keep the shinny side up. 😎👍

So, technically correct with the battery balancing info, however, if your system is balanced initially and charged with the same charger, you have very little to worry about in terms of cell damage in a parallel configuration. Because you have 2 cells very closely and evenly matched, there is no need to be concerned with a parallel connection. I think the issue really becomes when charging. If you are using different chargers for the batteries, cell balancing becomes an issue. You should be able to use the jetson bike charger to charge both packs at the same time if you use the parallel method - it will just take a lot longer. You can further reduce load balancing risk by replacing the jetson battery with another ebay battery.
Hi Josh, thanks for your insight. As I said in my video, it could be just my personal preference and what makes me nervous about the parallel configuration. I would be much more comfortable with parallel connection of two ebay batteries as you said. Since Jetson doesn't really provide any info about the original battery, you can only assume things about the internal resistance. I am by no means an expert and my knowledge is limited to past experiences and college Chemistry haha. So, I really appreciate your input. Thank you.
@@ShivaSapkota you could make a measurement of the internal battery resistance by measuring the open circuit voltage, then drawing a known current, and measuring the voltage drop from the open circuit voltage. Divide the difference by the current, and you have the internal resistance. Easiest with an electronic load, but you can just measure the current with an ammeter, and use that for the calculation.
You can buy the xt60 connectors and then just buy bulk wire instead of extensions.. then you can run it however you want. It would be nice to put the aux battery in the front somehow because of the already rear heavy cog
Wouldn't it be easier just to plug in additional battery with only xt60 connector for charge and work? I did it for my MiniPro 11 (it is ananlog bike) with 36V4,4Ah battery even it appers to be 2,2Ah because of weak umarked 18650 elements. Nevertheless it helped me to get to my job and even back with one charge. I did it once but now I prefer charging my battrey twice just to be sure.\ With my heavy body (120kg approx) one way is about 7 kilometers. Pedalling and throttling - 50/50.
You’re a godsend! I’m building a bike right now and came across an issue where i see things sparking with I connect and disconnect the battery from the controller. I heard that if you install a switch between the battery and the controller and turn it off before disconnecting, the sparks will go away. I have no idea what switch I’d need or how to but it in between the battery and controller. Could you please advise? Thank you 🙏🏻
Hi Shiva...great work, you are good at this. I bought one of these bikes but would like to add a battery. Unfortunately , I live in Canada and the Ebay seller does not ship it here. Could any 36 volt battery work ? I noticed in another video you mentioned something about amp hours. Does this matter with respect to the circuitry / controller.
Thank you for your videos, they are very detailed and really well explained. I'm looking to get two Jetson bikes but my fear is about fires. I have always been warned against batteries made in China, what do you think? Also, I live in Canada where winter temperatures easily drop to -25 Celsius and even colder. What do you suggest for storing bikes in the winter. I was thinking of storing only the batteries in the house, but here I come back to my first point, the risk of fire. Thank you very much and keep up your good work.
Thanks Landon. I have the controller installed but yet to verify the speeds I am getting. I am already liking my new controller a lot more than the old one as it offers various customization such as 9 different modes for speed, initial power, lcd display etc. Stay tuned for that video soon. Thank you.
Great videos. Is there a way to add a key ignition switch to power on? Would an alarm immobilizer also be a good idea and something that could be added? Thanks
Hi Joffre, that is an interesting idea. Let me look into that for you. I am sure we can figure out some sort of a "Key". The alarm system would be rather complicated. Thanks for watching my videos.
I got this one. It works and I really like it better than on the stock controller as it has 9 different throttle/pedal assist modes, lcd screen and you can even change how much instant power you get. It is loud though. I have yet to test the speed. You have to change the number of magnets in your motor and I have no idea how many they have. That determines to speed. So, I will have to calibrate using a GPS speedometer. I can probably do it this weekend and post a video next week. Here is the product: amzn.to/3ykmMId.
Thanks Shiva, very helpful definitely got me thinking about an additional battery. By the way I noticed you install a mirror, leave a link so I can order the same. Thanks

Where is the link to the tool, and do you use 48 v 20 ah lithium battery? It looks like there is a size, and i dont understand the difference of battery number?
Hi William, no you cannot use a 48V battery. It can only take a 36V battery. You would need to upgrade the controller to use a 48V battery. Thanks for watching and please reach out with any questions.
thanks a lot man you are the only person who explains this properly to somebody , big like , i decided to do the switch version, i have one battery 48v 30ah and another 48v 15ah will this switch that you used be ok for this ?

I hope you are doing well? Question ; How far should we let the battery run down before charging it? Finally got two bikes for wife and myself. Thanks again for the informative videos. 👍 Rick
Hi Rick, these batteries don't really have memories, so you can charge any time. I wouldn't drain below 10% and charge to 80 - 100%. Overcharging these batteries (keeping it plugged in after full charge) would hurt the health in a long run. Hope you are doing well!
do you know if there is a 5v output inside I can tap into? I have a collection of old iphones and I was thinking about placing one inside securely that I would be able to track on icloud in case of theft.
That is a great idea. Yeah I believe there are multiple 5V outputs (throttle power and ground, power button cable (red/black) and even the headlight has power. I think the throttle one might be the best to tap into. I did a thumb throttle video recently and that video shows the power cable for the throttle. Thanks for watching my videos.
Hi Shiva, great video. My only question is, does the Amp rating for the BMS in the aftermarket battery matter if doing the secondary battery with the switch?
Hi Eddie, I don't think it matters. The switch is rated for 20A and I think the extra battery has that same BMS (could be a bit higher) but it worked for me. As far as the bike, it has a 10A limiter, so no matter what the battery discharge, the controller won't send more than 10A to the motor. Thanks for watching my video.
@@ShivaSapkota Thank you for your quick reply and providing of many details. I was able to get my hands on a Bluetooth module with Controller from the older Jetson Bolt, that used to be sold directly from Jetson. Do you have any idea if doing the speed unlock with that same older Bolt Controller would keep the pedal assist?
Thank you Shiva! I am interested in replacing my original Jetson battery with the one you bought from ebay. Please let me know where I can get that, plus all the connections I need to fit it into my Jetson Bolt Pro. Thanks again!
All those exposed wires will look horrible. Should drill into the plastic panel where the stock battery is installed to make it look factory and keep moisture away from the elements like moisture. Water will flick up from the rear tire if installed under the rear rack and too exposed on the handlebars. But keep up the good work and vids bud!
Thanks for all the info in the description :) All parts ordered except I couldn't see a link for the extra charging port. Did I miss it? Thanks for any help
Shiva, this is incredibly helpful, thank you for all you do and for figuring out everything and showing the easiest ways to modify the Bolt Pro. Have you considered a front wheel second motor? It’s something I’m considering and I just wonder if you’ve thought of it too! Not to increase speed but better for hills. Also how can I find your email so I can send you all of my swagcycle mods?
Hi John, I have considered a dual motor mod. That is much more intense process but I plan on doing it in the future. My email is sapkotatechnology@gmail.com. Thanks John!
Hi Shiva , my name is Bhagwat ,live in near Ann Arbor Mich. Any help upgrading battery pack to 36/48 volt and a controller made by Brainpower 36/48 volt,13Amp.I have run in to connecting proper color coded wires that do not match. On my LCD I get an error code # 10,that is related to throttle not getting power and not turning the wheel. There is a very dim green light I see on the throttle. The red wire from the controller to the throttle should have 5 volt hat is not there.Any suggestion will be appreciated Hari Ohm !
Also can I just stick a stronger hub motor without altering the entire controller battery set up without causing damage? Can I upgrade battery. Hub motor. Or controller individually to improve performance at all ? Or does it require a full kit change. I’ve never owned an ebike
It heat up a little bit but I think that is normal. I haven't had overheating issues. The switch is rated for 20A and the controller limits to 10A. Thanks for watching my video.
Excellent video Shiva! I'm going to try the same and get similar some supplies from AliExpress. Do you mind taking a measurement of the width of the switch on two sides? (Difffent widths on 2 of the sides) I want to use shrink wrap around the outer diameter of the switch and then cover the 3 xt60 cables coming of the switch as well. What type of diameter shrink wrap do you think i would need to cover switch and 3 xt60 cables?
Hello, the switch is 1.3" x 0.76" x 2.2". Is that the measurement you wanted? Honestly, you can probably just do electrical tape? Thanks and let me know if you need any additional info. Good luck with the mod, thanks for your continuous support to my channel.

Hi, can I use a portable charger to charge the battery on the road and that il can plug directly into the hole of the charger for my jetson Bolt pro? If so, what kind of portable charger? Thank you very much and I like your videos! From Laval, Canada!
Hello, yes you can technically use a portable charger but the weight of the charger might diminish its value. I wouldn't recommend charging while using the battery. Thanks.
Thank you very much for answering back! By curiosity what king of charger would you recommend. If i am stuck with no electricity it would be a plus, sitting and waiting for the battery to charge Thank again!!!!
Thanks Shiva, Maybe this question has already been asked, for the second battery, since it is installed on the bike rack, so the size is not matter, can it be 36v 20ah instead of 10ah that you were using in this video (amazing video)?
Hello, yes, as long as it is still a 36V battery, you can go any AH. However, a lot of "20AH" batteries are scam, so be careful. I would go with 14AH to be safe.
After viewing most of your reviews/mods, went to Costco (Canada) bought 2 of them @$359 CAD each, ~ $259 USD...and hopefully add on second ext battery to increase the range
I just got my own Jetson Bolt Pro. My first impression, the handlebars is too short, it is not easy to control. The wheel is too small, it is ok on paved road, but it may lost balance on unpaved road. And my original battery only last 7+ miles.
Hello, thanks for your insight about this bike. The range is heavily dependent on weather, wind conditions and weight. I get about 8-10 miles in the winter but close to 14 in the summer on flat roads. The handlebar are a little short and I also do wish the wheels were a little bigger. Thanks for watching my video.
You don't need to connect all the wires in the switch, double pole connections are not that safe newbie can make mistakes short it, just connect the 3 red wires to the switch and tie all the 3 black wires together and seal it with heat shrink and tape it. Installed my dpdt switch in a waterproof electrical box so it's its even safer more me

Hey man was wondering if u could help since Ik you’re kinda like the jetson bolt Pro pro, my folding mechanism doesn’t have any form of like force at all like the little handle to be able to fold the bike once I take off the little lock that keeps it from popping out it’s super loose idk if you can help in anyway that’d be dope
Hello my friend, thanks for reaching out. That is strange, usually folks complain about how tight that handle is. When you unclip the little handle, do you see a rod in there? If the rod is missing, it would be super loose. If you see the rod, you can actually take the bottom screw of the little clip assembly out (it has a metal washer with a cut in the middle that you can remove). You can remove that and tighten the entire clip assembly by turning it right. You can then put the assembly back together and it should be tighter. Hope this works. If not, I will try to make that one of my future videos. Cheers!

Hi Shiva, Thank you for your informative videos on Jetson bike. I am really glad to find out the battery capacity can be enlarged. I was wondering if you have any plans to extend your expertise to Jupiter discovery x5, another ebike from costco (especially in areas of battery). Although I am drawn to Jetson's price and modification, I do need a folding bike for my purpose.
Hi Scott, I already have 2 of these bolt pro's so a little hesitant to spend more money on the Jupiter bike. I have considered getting one and doing tutorial videos but haven't made a decision yet. I did reach out to Jupiter to see if they can send me a bike for review but they wanted me to pay basically the Costco price. I also reached out to Swagtron (folding ebike like Jupitor) and they didn't respond...Thanks for watching my video.
I would not put the switch to the front as extra long cable will create extra voltage drop hence extra power loss or heat waste. If someone likes to do it I suggest to put a relay close to both batteries and run small gauge wires to the front with a control switch. It might cost you just a bit more for the extra relay or even less because the extra long battery cable may cost you more than the relay.

@@ShivaSapkota you could make a measurement of the internal battery resistance by measuring the open circuit voltage, then drawing a known current, and measuring the voltage drop from the open circuit voltage. Divide the difference by the current, and you have the internal resistance.
Easiest with an electronic load, but you can just measure the current with an ammeter, and use that for the calculation.
will it charge the extra battery in the original charging port or should I connect both charging wires of both batteries?
@@JOSERIZALADVENTURES if the batteries are connected in parallel to the system so they can be used simultaneously, they will charge from one charger.
Dp you really need the extentions? The 5 pack of those things seem good enough right?..
I did it once but now I prefer charging my battrey twice just to be sure.\

Pedalling and throttling - 50/50.
can I parallel contect a 36v 6ah jetson pro stock battery with a 36v 20ah battery????
My question you think i can charge both battery while there connected to the main that have a switch?
I would add a fire system that switch is not heavy enough there is a heavy doty diode block that will do the job safely
Thank you 🙏🏻
Excelente, lo sencillo es más práctico.
Great information, thanks Bro...
I have a spare jetson because we upgraded one to a 3 wheeled bike. Can i use 2 Jetson batteries in parallel like that?
Thank you for your videos, they are very detailed and really well explained. I'm looking to get two Jetson bikes but my fear is about fires. I have always been warned against batteries made in China, what do you think? Also, I live in Canada where winter temperatures easily drop to -25 Celsius and even colder. What do you suggest for storing bikes in the winter. I was thinking of storing only the batteries in the house, but here I come back to my first point, the risk of fire. Thank you very much and keep up your good work.
running that 36v Male hard and sturdy till the female plug comes first timer
I will be looking forward to seeing the controller upgrade video.
I know you are planning on making a video on controller upgrade. Can you give us heads up on the model you got as mine is dead...thanks.
Thanks

Hi Shiva I have a battery from ebay is 48v 20ah , so this is good o not good Jetson bike ????????
Hi William, no you cannot use a 48V battery. It can only take a 36V battery. You would need to upgrade the controller to use a 48V battery. Thanks for watching and please reach out with any questions.
thanks a lot man you are the only person who explains this properly to somebody , big like , i decided to do the switch version, i have one battery 48v 30ah and another 48v 15ah will this switch that you used be ok for this ?
Thank you very much!! Check the amp rating on your batteries. I think you will be okay but you can also email the seller asking if your battery is compatible. I think switch is good for 25A.

Did you ever install the switch? Did you notice any issues with battery draining?
I hope you are doing well? Question ; How far should we let the battery run down before charging it? Finally got two bikes for wife and myself. Thanks again for the informative videos. 👍
Rick
Great Video! Will your switch handle two 48 volt batteries pulling up to 19 amps....as on the Lectric XP 2.0 eBike?
One question. What if I purchased a single pair cable battery and the existing one has charging and descharging port, can I install them togheter?

All those exposed wires will look horrible. Should drill into the plastic panel where the stock battery is installed to make it look factory and keep moisture away from the elements like moisture. How does the switch perform under load going up hill? Does it heat up or stays cool?
It heat up a little bit but I think that is normal. I haven't had overheating issues. The switch is rated for 20A and the controller limits to 10A. Thanks for watching my video.
Excellent video Shiva! I'm going to try the same and get similar some supplies from AliExpress.
Do you mind taking a measurement of the width of the switch on two sides? Thank you very much and I like your videos! From Laval, Canada!
Thanks for answering back!
Hello, yes you can technically use a portable charger but the weight of the charger might diminish its value. I wouldn't recommend charging while using the battery. Thanks.
Thank you very much for answering back! By curiosity what king of charger would you recommend. If i am stuck with no electricity it would be a plus, sitting and waiting for the battery to charge
Thank again!!!!

Nice job.

Hi, my scooter now using 60V 15AH battery, can i buy 60V 30AH battery and make it to dual battery?

Cheers!

@@ShivaSapkota mm
hi shiva do you still using the switch ? did u had any problem with switch i was thinking same for my bike too thanks
Your switch needs to be rated for the current draw of your controller and batteries.
Will this still work for a 30amp battery
