Learning is NEVER wasted and art doesn't need to be explained! I think the bright colors really accentuate that this equipment has a sculptural quality. I am not a machinist, I am an artist with MANY interests, but I have great respect for anyone who does a job well. I suspect you might possess a creative side! Great Q&A clear and concise!

It doesn’t matter what others think at the end of the day. It’s your equipment. If it makes you happy that’s all that matters. You did do a great job on it. Devil is always in the details.

I agree with you entirely on your perspective of paint colors for your machinery. I'm collecting old American cast iron machinery for my home shop and the last thing I want is to paint them dungie navy gray when I could paint them possibly in a off white or so and brighten up the shop. Plus that color would easily alert me to need of cleaning and maintenance, not to be hidden behing dark grey surfaces. Yes, brighter colors are better and spirit lifting. That's the route I am taking too.

Love the restoration and the paint color likewise. You dare cross boundaries and I like it!
Enjoy this beautiful press of yours!
I also totally agree with the hydraulic press benefits and cons. The motorcycle bushing example is a great one.
Thank you for sharing good men!
    God Bless.❤

I love it. To me it's not just a tool anymore. It's a beautiful piece of art. I love the color too, such a rich pink. It goes well with the light blue metal lathe.

I dig your bubble gum press Sure, it's going to get messy over time. Like you pointed out, subtle aesthetics make users/operators feel good about their environment. They can also influence potential customers.

I truly appreciate the thoughtfulness and humility in which you share in your content. Hindsight is 20/20 no doubt but admire how you think through choices, pick one and follow through. Few can these days. I'm not sure why TH-cam hid your channel from me for so long, I subscribe to many that you likely do as well and love old machines. I'll admit, when I saw your color choices, I was initially confused, but after spending some time watching your videos and understanding your mindset, I really like them and love the idea of bringing life into a drab shop. Are we to see a canary yellow shaper in the future?

I wholeheartedly agree with your decision and motives to go with the colors you chose. I struggled for some time on a 10EE color but ultimately decided that I dig purple and value its uniqueness (after having been totally surrounded by machine gray and sea foam green for years). I look forward to seeing the next restoration color!

Hey thank u for your candor and admitting some decisions u made were risky and fringe and mostly just cause u wanted the learning experience and to challenge yourself. That is awesome and keep it up. Painting the machine pink was a big move but like u said looking at it and it makes u smile and have joy.....keep it up thats what its all about.

Thanks for the content, I'm fairly new but your craftsmanship is of the highest quality. I wondered why the pink but now it makes perfect sense and has made me question myself about finishes and colours on equipment in the future. Thanks again, all the best from a wet & windy Scotland.
    Merry Christmas

Looks good as far as colors. back in the 60's and 70's they had black light posters that they used bright fluorescent colors i think we're cool looking . JM

Grey machines are boring! I like you challenging yourself by making and repairing what normally be done in a restoration. Now that I know you were going to build a over the top stand for the other press,I think I need to see that done, don't make me beg.haha ,I need stand ideas for my incoming Hardtail vise. I like the Q&A video. great work!

Just found the channel, easy sub. I dig the colorful equipment. I figured your equipment was painted bright so that they show up on videos easily (green lathe, blue lathe, etc...) which helps people like me who aren't machinists sort of follow along. I'm a chef by trade and if I were making videos I would probably try to use a bright room and unique colors to make things easier and simpler to follow. Anyway, awesome restoration dude. I've been following Cutting Edge Engineering for a while and your videos are definitely on that same level of quality. Great job. I'm blown away by people who use machines to make other machines. The iterative process is crazy when you think about even bigger things like huge engines for ships that require bigger and bigger machinery to make parts for. Looking forward to future projects. Happy holidays.

You're making me reconsider using bold colors in my own shop. I've always gravitated toward the greys. I was hoping you would have included a walk around of the press in this video, it has some features I don't think I have seen before. Always enjoy your videos, Kyle.

I personally like the pink color you chose. However as a machine restorer/modder myself, I feel like it could have used a second tone and/or some pinstripes to really boost the cool factor. The pinstriping tool from Beugler makes basic striping very easy.

Excellent video. I have the arbor press that’s about half that size and a 175 ton hydraulic press. And I never use the arbor press. You will find out that with a pressure gauge you can have incredible control with hydraulics.

Did I miss where you stated what this press is rated at (ton wise)? There's nothing wrong with the colors you used if that's what you want or like. When it's all said and done, you are the one that needs to be happy with it, not everyone else. I recently repaired/refurbished an old 18" band saw that we think is from around 1920. I haven't been able to discover who the maker is or year made so far. But I painted it a little bit different than most woodworking tools but I like it and that's all that maters to me.

Is it risqué to paint a huge arbor press pink, because a lot of people say it’s a girly colour? I don’t think so. I dislike those colours because they’re loud and flashy - I wouldn’t paint machines pink, signal green or baby blue, but I think someone should: it’s fun to look at the result.
