It's amazingly refreshing to see players not just shake hands, but also pat backs and even hug their opponents when they congratulate each other. That's what true sport is about.

LOL man you took me by the word. xD
I rather thought about a title like "Sweden - China 1993" and the names of the participants in the explanation but anyway thanks for the effort!

Nice video but why is it named "jan ove waldner 1993"? There are other players in it who also deserve mentioning because of their achievements at world and european championships and olympic games.

9M people vs 1000M people... and table tennis is the national sport in China, table tennis is...hmm like the 5th in our country....in the 80's probably no.4 (after football, ishockey and tennis). I played a lot(born in 78) back then. No wonder China is no.1

      Daniel,
The population # is correct but not all Chinese play TT. In fact, they don't have too many good facilities. What I am trying to point out is that the Chinese are good because of a very good TT system, not because of many players to choose from. Back in the 80s, I visited a provisional TT training center in Shanghai where twice WTTC Woman Single Champion Cao Yan Hua trained at, the lighting was less than adequate. Overall, it gave me a feeling of "wtf?" But the players were really good. Also, I am not sure TT was ever the most popular sport in China. I am sure from the 80s till now, football and basketball are always more popular than TT. Badminton and TT are about the same.

Quite a gamble by china put an avg defensive player in 2 singles position. It failed.. ding song was much better defensive player

The Chinese players suck back then. Wang Tao's game was specialized in blocking. Like Teng Yi, he was really good against Chinese penholders but not against loop-drive players. Wang Hao past his prime by 1993. I think he retired and asked to rejoin the Chinese National Team because the Chinese then had no answers to the Swedish and European dominance. Even when the Chinese team played against the S. Korean team, it was not a sure win.
