I just noticed at around 4:04, you can see the people in the background slowly starting to smile as well! :) The attention to detail is astounding! Definitely deserves more views!
Twosentencehorror from tiktok brought me here. I gotta say most short horror stories are trash but damn this is beautifully written, shot, and produced. I hope everyone in the crew is proud of the work put into the White Void project because I can tell that this a group of very talented people coming together to create something unique.
@@DCFairhurst I loved it. Starts of all weird like. Then progresses to some mental mindf**k. By the time she has that weird forced smile on her face and isn't moving to a new pose, I was feeling something was off and really uncomfortable. Then the close up of her face... Oh dear lord all mighty!!! And then the sequence of flashes followed by them all standing behind him?! God damn! That's when I felt the chills. That was as good or better than many horror / suspense scenes I've seen.
This one’s been living rent free in my head for a couple years. Really excellent work. It’s the little touches and the uncanny effect in her last big smile that seems like it’s saying “help me” that really tie this whole thing together.
Didn't care much for the ending, but the shot of just the woman smiling was really cool, and not because "omg creepy smile!" It's subtle enough that you probably wouldn't notice anything weird at a glance. It's not until you really look at her that you realize something is off, and even then I can't really place it. Is her mouth too wide? Are her teeth too big? Are they shaped wrong? Beats me, but I want to get away from her.
I agree. I think they should have trusted in the subtle power of what they created with the pained smile / "a little more natural please" / looking closer at her.. but I get how they want to appeal to a broad audience, and that 'surrounding by smiling creepy people' set up is a broadly appealing trope.
Ok, the group standing behind him with the smiles was pretty silly looking, but the look on her face in the lens was horror magic. That really sent it home and it should've ended there or ended differently, IMO.
I like, agree and disagree. The final picture was definitely creepier than the group shot, but the group shot creates a more....I guess primal?? Gutteral??? Fear. With it just being the girl, there's still the fear of witnessing something happening. With the group, he's surrounded, it's happening to him now. He's fucked. I like that better than say, the entity/girl charging the camera for a final jump scare, like some media does
Agree, the smeared makeup, the way her eyes seemed to scream for help, her quivering hands, compared to that the group behind him seemed lackluster in their expressions. The woman on the right's smile just seems unnatural to the point of it being comical.
@@AwsomeKat777 I'm with the argument of the final shot being the closeup of her face, not knowing whether he's fucked or not is more interesting to me, and the rest of the short not implying an affect on everyone else or why he was excluded from it leaves questions that subtract from the horror
@@gi.an_m9525 Well, jumpscares are not really predictable, it catches the spectator off guard. The only two moments when the "thing" is close enough to the camera to be scary, you're expecting it. But yeah, re-watching after 2+ years, I agree those two moments can still be surprising.
@@mcfaddenhall2896 It's a new-ish horror theme (trope?) that has a silent smiling man as the main character- like Mike Myers or Jason or Freddy or the Scream mask killer without the gore and with different directors and takes on that one main figure. Hope this helps. The 'smiling man theme' movies are on TH-cam and can go all the way to an old black & white movie that was said to be the inspiration for the Joker in Batman depending on how into you are about the 'silent smiling man' lore...I wish I could remember the names of the shorts or the old movie, sorry.
That man's eyebrow is bigger than my future. Good short by the way, it's refreshing to see something that doesn't look like it was shot in murky darkness.
OMG Holy moly, that was pretty much the most scary and disturbed stuff I've EVER seen in a short or movie. I nearly through my iPad away. I loved it lol 😃 PS: Reddit brought me here, saw it at Popular.
This was amazing btw 10 out of 10. Spoilers So the monster killed her then replaced her with something else and the people were smiling because the monster somehow replaced everyone when the lights flickered which is cool. I think it's his nightmare or something. I don't completely understand what happened but it's still really good.
I don't know why, but I love the small implication that the "real" horror is not the monster we se per se. Like...the photographer clearly seems to need the job. That's pretty visible regarding he just keeps up with getting treated like shit and doesn't instantly walk out when things get weird. Especially the moments where he just forces himself to make photos while seeing the monster to not get fired... ...maybe I'm interpreting too much, but this resonated with a camera job I had when I was young. I didn't see ghosts or anything, but I was 14yo and had to make videos at one of my dad's weird "art shows". I was stationed under his best friend -a strong choleric - and every practice + event was really fucking stressful. Like I was a 14yo girl, being surrounded by screaming, weird and partially creepy individuals. I got screamed commandos to film, had to endure arguments over my head while trying to focus etc. And everything just because I had a deal with my dad in which he bought me my camera in exchange of service. So yeah. Great horror there dude! Brought me back!
I watched it at midnight, and was too scared to go to sleep, so I messed up my sleep schedule I went to sleep at 8 a.m., when it was finally light outside.
Great! I would have gone more with a look of horror in the eyes of those smiling, like they knew the photog was somehow behind it. Otherwise genius! Great camera work and production all around!
Everyone saying they're from imgur... and I'm here from Reddit, just vibing. But anyways, that was a really good short horror. Quite well done, good job!
All aboard the Nope train to Fuckthatville! Her smile at 3:53 is creeping me out and I'm procrastinating on pushing forward lol Edit: OH GOD IT ONLY GOT WORSE
Dude, that final shot of her smile was super cool. His casual "a little more natural" only to take a closer look at her face was brilliant.
Even the people behind him were smiling too
That freaked me tf out man. God tier short.
The smile on the woman next to him really freaked me out.
"Hello? SCP Foundation? ...yea it's me. ...yea, it's happening again."

Reddit what's brought me here and i'm not dissapointed.
Same I thought it Lenny Kravitz daughter at first
Same.
same
This was better than any Nosleep I've ever read or written and I am religious about that sub.

i came here from that vid too! and i totally agree this horror short is amazing
Wow that was awesome! Can't wait to see more from this channel
Thanks! Now I really have to get to work on my next one.
I kid you not, the hairs on the back of my neck were standing up by the end, sending a weird tingling chill down my spine.
Yay! Success.

Those last ten seconds when you see her smile up closer, jesus christ that creeped me out O___O

I think it's a mix of lots of things. Her smile is much too wide to be a normal smile, as well as that, it's her eyes. They look pained.

Very well done. No jumpscare and still so scary to watch, that's how I recognize a good horror "movie" (short or not)
"No jumpscare"

Very nice. In the vein of "Truth or dare" & "smile" with a bit of 'Insidious'ness.

{Anonymously from back of crowd) Yeah! What that guy said!
That was super fun to watch! The monster design was really creepy. Thanks for making such a cool film!
Well, that was much more terrifying and sinister than I was expecting. Seriously well done, the ending was genuinely freaky.
Bro that was fabulous, I love the use of the focus pulling sounds to bring tension to the silent moments. Really well done
As a fellow Aussie. This makes me so proud. I loved this! Perfection
Thanks mate!
Great take on the Smiling Man horror theme. One of the best I've seen; excellent story, actors and production. Keep up the good work.
Okay, maybe you can explain the smiling then. I'm just confused, more confused than scared.

The close up shot of the woman smiling was so unnerving.

Holy crap, the way the guys in the background start smiling after the rapid flashes. This was amazing!
wow oh my god, the smiles at the end were really unsettling. this is really cool!
Jesus, hardly anything scares me, but this...this scared the shit out of me.
Facts lol. I'm perfectly fine watching any other horror movie/short film, but this one is spooky af.
Great short. I'm afraid that by thumbing it up it will put horror stories in my reccomended, but I'll take the risk.
I just noticed that as he keeps taking pictures, the dudes in the back start to smile more as well. I like that

I love how supportive the Imgur community is. So excited that people are enjoying it.

Me too! Really glad I checked out the full vid! :D

I need the music from this video but checking youtube I’m getting nothing.
That was awesome!! Five minutes I don't regret! Imgur never lets me down!
Came here from Imgur as well
Same and holy shit
Too
You are doing me a frighten.
I probably shouldn't be watching this at midnight when I should be sleeping
That was awesome, I really like that you didn't rely on a big final jumpscare at the end there. You guys did an excellent job!
I kinda got the ghosting in my eye when dude was flashing the camera, unintentionally gave the video that sumthin sumthin
Nice. I do photography and it’s interesting how different what you see through that viewfinder is different from what you see in real life.
Very cool!
