After a while though, my mom finally realized that he was serious and supported him. About 8 years later, they’ve both happily remarried and now I technically have 3 dads lol. A small detail I loved is how the blonde caketopper had thorns around her original cake, showing how toxic the relationship was, while the brunette one didnt have anything around her cake, showing that her husband was much more accepting and understanding. Loved this short film!
Notice how the abuser didn't show remorse or sadness when she fell. He only acted once he was pressured by everyone to do the right thing. Even if she weren't gay, she still needed to get away from him! I also liked how the other guy was confused but eventually accepted and supported them. I see a lot of same-sex stories vilify the opposite gender and it's quite sad and tiring.
Yeah, fully agree. I just kind of wish the groom got some sort of sign of a happy ending. Like maybe being shown with someone new. Dude did the right thing, he needs a break… no pun intended.
Yeah, I kinda want a part two where he finds someone new that loves him and we see kinda the same ending where the topper him and his new bride are paired similarly in matching or if it has to be kept on LGBTQ+ brand, he discovers he's bi and gets with another groom, that’d be cool too
Watching this reminded me of one of my closest friends. Her mother was married to a man who was abusive towards her when my friend was born. The final straw for them was actually my friend's mother falling in love with a young woman. Who helped her leave her abusive husband. My friend now has two absolutely wonderful mothers.
I love how this explains not only unhealthy relationships but how the blonde girl probably got out of the toxic relationship and how with the brown hair guy he tried his best to fix things but in the end he accepted the girl should move on and so should he this is a really good animation
All I wanna say is, thank you. Not for the LGBT representation but for the disability representation. The blonde woman has the same disability as me, same arm, same look, and it's something that is not common to see in media and I'm really thankful for that. Edit: 1) Thanks to the creator for putting a heart on the comment and to all the likes! ❤ 2) Sorry for my wording, English isn't my first language but I only wanted to get the point across that although I'm thankful for the LGBT representation, it's the main point of the video and I thought it would be obvious to point out, sorry if it sounded weird.
@@rabbit0.023 I'm pretty sure the commenter just wanted to specify that, that's not what the thank you was for. Anyone is happy to have LGBTQ+ representation, but that's not what the comment was about. (correct me if im wrong)
THE SHORT FILM HAS BEEN FINISHED LESGOOOOOO/pos Dang, I remember seeing this project being announced around a year ago or more, and to see it finally be complete is genuinely awesome. This turned out amazing! Everyone did a great job with this short film!
I like how there was no real dialogue, all of it was just action... which “speaks louder then words”. As well as letting everyone, no matter what language they speak, to understand its meaning. Storytelling is incredible
Approximately 100 years ago, the silent film was diminished, and thanks to the developed technology that allowed films to be able to speak. there is hardly a person in this modern era who hasn’t grown up with a screen that can talk back to them. But the silent film remains as a effective tool, because something with no dialogue can have a universal appeal.
i loved the connotations of the knife and fork scene - men taking knifes, women taking forks, knifes generically being paired with a fork like how some people think women should be with men or vice versa. LOVED IT!! - sincerely your local lesbian
El chico apesar de ver a su novia gustarse de una piba este en vez de querer tomar el control como el otro chico este decide ayudar a la pareja para verla feliz ''Ese es un verdadero hombre''
Hope he got himself a new wife who'd love him back this time, now that the cake store owner realized she got one groom figure left without a parthner, lol.
I like how one of the husbands is a genuinely kind person who was just in love with a woman who couldn’t love him, Not necessarily because it paints men in a positive light, but because it helps erase the narrative that women “turn” lesbian due to poor experiences with men.
That is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. The grooms understanding of how the bride feels, how he no doubt feels sad, yet he doesn’t hesitate to usher her to who will make her happy…it’s wonderful. The scene at the end with the couple buying the cake and the cake topper girls sharing a kiss at the end- super heartwarming.
I love it, I remember seeing this film being announced and I'm just so happy that it's finally here, the level of detail is amazing and the little scene at the end with the marriage is so sweet!! 💕💕
gods the credits in those gay shorts are everything also you DO see the difference between an abuser and a man who actually cares. Loveless marriage does not mean there is no care there. Great representation of that, of gayness, and of disability. That end story had me in the feels.
Wow! That was so good! The animation, the way the story was told without any dialogue, and the music accompanying whats going on, gonna recommend this to others!
⚠️ Spoiler! ⚠️ I just love how her exboyfriend accepted the disconnection and let them be together! He understands he couldn't control love, hopefully he finds the right one ❤
Yeah, honestly, I felt kind of bad for him. Even before his turnaround, he just seemed really confused about the whole thing, like he was constantly thinking 'Wasn't she made for me? What's happening?'
I adore that they managed to teach us that love is love, there isn't a straight love between a man and woman, but of a sane and healthy relationship no matter the gender or the sexuality
This just popped up in my recommended & I'm so glad it did. This was beautiful & clever, & said SO much without saying a word. I actually gasped when douche-groom slapped her & she fell to the ground. Of course the end had me in tears, especially when I realized the blonde lady in the couple was also missing part of an arm. Both brilliant & heartwarming. (Kind of an 'aside', but the brides who found their perfect decorator, which somehow managed to include their appearances all the way down to the arm, would sure look to me like a 'sign' they were 'meant to be' ^^ So romantic.)
I think the whole reason that was because the Brides on the top of the cake was supposed to mean representations of the actual Brides so what we saw was essentially the life story of the blond and how her and the brunette fell in love
This genuinely made me cry. With how much anti-LGBTQ legislation there is and the sheer amount of terrorist-level hatred our community faces everyday, that a symbolic and beautiful short that demonstrates why diversity and inclusion is so valuable.. is incredibly refreshing and needed. Thank you and all other team members for making this 🫂
What I love about this animation is that it not only focuses LGBT but I can see the topic of ‘abusive relationships’ 0:51 when he kicked away her broken arm shards dismissively as he helps her by hiding from ppl ‘s eyes that he not an ‘abuser’ but everyone knows the truth this scene reflects reality.
yes! even the scene where the men are chasing the women, the difference between the two men’s run style puts emphasis on the dynamic between the blonde bride and her former groom. his determination to get to her was almost scary.
I love how the cakes represent something as well, the cake the blond was on was filled with thorns showing a unsafe relationship and a hard place to leave without suffering injury. As for the cake with the pearls seemed delicate and safe, yet the bride wanted off. In my eyes it meant that even though everything is going well, you can still wish for more. As the groom on the cake held her back it seemed he didn’t wish for her leave him unsure what she was wanting, yet not knowing what he was holding her from. The fight scene showed there’s more to just a ending of relationship someone is always gonna think that two people that ended on good terms either hate each other or live in disgust of knowing that their used to be other half is now living a better life off without them and it turns into the motivation of well, “blank and blank ended like this and he’s upset or she’s upset yet I’m fine with the fact we broke it off yes it hurts but it doesn’t mean I can’t wish happiness for that other person” the guy on the blonds cake seemed angry that she left him, and he seen he was hurting her (which led to her falling off the cake and breaking an arm) but he didn’t care. Or I’m an 15 year old paying wayyy to much attention to a small animated film about cake toppings and have nothing to do with her summer.
I remember watching your camp camp animatics YEARS ago and I loved them. Now you have a whole short and it’s amazing to see your improvement and talents to shine through! Great Job!

@@ayato_sakamaki I know, that’s what I was saying, she was technically his girlfriend for a bit, but she followed her true feelings and fell in love with the other girl, and the original guy accepted that fact despite that he loved her, which is why I said he lost his girl and thus respect to him for not trying to stop her from achieving happiness
What struck me was that the angry husband helped his bride up off the floor not because he cared for her, or felt sorry for striking or pushing her off, but obviously just to save face (pun intentional), and I love that she was _not_ having any of that. She didn't cower, didn't accept him back, didn't play along or act thankful. She went like "You hurt me, and you don't care. I'm not going to help you with your image" The human couple at the end was really cute, too, and that the toppers changed position from dancing in the shop to kissing at the wedding 😍
A very sweet story! Happy that Val and Mara could get their happy ending (and new beginning!). Amazing work all around- congratulations to the crew involved! ♥🏳🌈
When I saw the cake topper brides together, I was hoping a couple were gonna come in looking similar!! I cried when the brides came in omg🥺this was so sweet I legitimately cried
I like how the the blonde cake topper girl's cake represents toxic/unhealthy relationships while brown haired cake topper represented a healthy relationship both were portrayed perfectly and how at the end the cake toppers represent an actual lesbian couple in the end there's so much accurate representation and I love it this is such a beautiful well made short film
@@Harsovoimaa what do you mean? what ab this fictional story was inaccurate? it's accurate that their are different experiences, some lesbians are able to leave there partner in a healthy way and still be good terms with their old partner while some lesbians have more toxic partners who take it more personally. Even the way the brunette's ex bf took some time to adjust and was a hurt at first but eventually came around when he realized what would make her happiest is accurate to what some people experience, just bc it's not accurate to you specifically doesn't mean it's inaccurate.
One shows a man who cannot accept a woman is free to love whomever she loves, even if it's another woman. He feels the need to control her and keep her under his thumb. The other shows that even though it hurts him, he realizes that a woman who cannot love him shouldn't be with him. He accepts her happiness is elsewhere, but he'll be there if she calls for his help to defend her and her love.
That guy was nothing more than a narcissist to me. I mean if I had a quarter for every time I saw him smack her like that, I would have grabbed him with my hand and glared at him with such intimidation.
They look so cute! I love how the brown groom helps them to be together at the end, and how they mirror the irl couple! Also love how the white brides were both amputated, that is just so sweet to see disability representation! ❤
LITERALLYYYY. I started tearing up when the art depicted the two brides peacefully dancing, and a WLW couple that looks similar to them walking in... :sob:
This made me think of me and my girlfriend. She was in an abusive relationship when I met her and we fell in love organically. Eventually she left that relationship to be with me and went through hell to do it. We watched this and cried together…beautiful work. People like you should be in our animation studios.
SOBBING !! indie animators deserve more funding because when you let people follow their passions and truly speak through their art without boundaries or censorship they create beautiful work like this masterpiece 🥺❤ i finally know what all the hype is about, they are so adorable!!
This was honestly such an amazing short, I especially love how well the story is told with a lack of dialogue, granted that's a given with these kind of short movies but it's always worth credit lol
The lesbian wedding cake decorations, the representation of physical abuse, the comfort between the two of them, the ending pages with the two women seeing themselves represented, disability and all... it makes my heart so happy. The amount of love and time put into this piece.... incredible!!!
This was absolutely stunning! I especially loved the art at the end with the credits, made me a little teary eyed. Watching the process of making this film and seeing the final product come together has been absolutely amazing. You all should be very proud
This was so worth the year’s wait. Everything about it was so well put together. The ending was so sweet too (pun intended) especially with the after credits. I wasn’t expecting for Val to become a arm amputee, but the little detail of the human woman also being a amputee made me so emotional, we need more amputee rep man! Loved this cute little sapphic film!

This was very moving for me to watch. My wife and I married before it was legal in all US states (12 years ago), and we had to drive 12 hours to a state where it was! The world has changed a lot since then, although we obviously still have a lot of work to do.
Ok I’m all for being an ally but wasn’t gay marriage legalised in like 2017. So that was like 6 years ago. I’m just surprised that in 2011, there would’ve been a progressive state
@@Meela9088 Plenty of states had it legalized, it only became *federally* recognized recently. A bit like how weed is legal in a lot of states, but federally its still illegal
@@Meela9088 It's complicated. The first US state (Massachusetts) legalized it in 2004, and several states followed slowly. But full nationwide legalization only happened with the Supreme Court decision in 2015. That means my marriage was not legally recognized in the state where we lived, or by federal law, for 4 years. For some couples this isn't a big deal, but in our case it was.
Well, the cakeshop owner would have to eventually realize that she got one groom figure left without a partner so she'll probably give him a new wife who'd love him back this time, lmao.

I also liked how the other guy was confused but eventually accepted and supported them. I see a lot of same-sex stories vilify the opposite gender and it's quite sad and tiring.

I like how there was no real dialogue, all of it was just action... which “speaks louder then words”. As well as letting everyone, no matter what language they speak, to understand its meaning. Storytelling is incredible
I agree, this is an excellent example of 'show don't tell.'

I'm not going to help you with your image"
