Etymology and History of Baci Ceremony The Baci Ceremony is a blessing ceremony that is not from Buddhism nor Hinduism but rather Brahmanism which is proto Hinduism that is over 4000 years old. This is a relic of Brahmi and Lao ancestral worship tradition. Blessings of health, wealth and prosperity, that is why this ceremony is held with all of life's milestones. Baci is a compound word, "ba" from the root word "to carry" and "ci" from the root word "radiance". The white string radiate from the pa kwuan "gathering spirit" centrepiece. The body is consist of 32 chakras and a kwuan for each. This is a ceremony to gather these spirits back and the string is to tie them on. Ba is to carry that is why people touch the string or elbow to signify carry and bless the intended person. This is uniquely a Lao culture because the name Baci is Lao.
