Etymology and History of Baci Ceremony
The Baci Ceremony is a blessing ceremony that is not from Buddhism nor Hinduism but rather Brahmanism which is proto Hinduism that is over 4000 years old. This is a relic of Brahmi and Lao ancestral worship tradition. Blessings of health, wealth and prosperity, that is why this ceremony is held with all of life's milestones.
Baci is a compound word, "ba" from the root word "to carry" and "ci" from the root word "radiance". The white string radiate from the pa kwuan "gathering spirit" centrepiece. The body is consist of 32 chakras and a kwuan for each. This is a ceremony to gather these spirits back and the string is to tie them on. Ba is to carry that is why people touch the string or elbow to signify carry and bless the intended person.
This is uniquely a Lao culture because the name Baci is Lao.

I respect your view.... What I feel like the essence of all the dharmic religion are same doesn't matter which one is oldest whether Buddhism Hinduism or any other which derive their power from nature not by some commandments given by God from third world like in quran or bibal.....

@@ajay2734 You missed the point completely. The point is that this part of Lao culture is older than people think. Lao people and culture is older than Thai or Taikadai nonsense.

Normally it takes a whole week. But let’s the culture flies. Laotian culture is nothing but showing the appreciation n respecting to her parents.

I love this video. I've been looking for a videographer who can do a Lao wedding like this. It's sad that you aren't from the USA. :(

What is the commotion at that door way? With the women pulling other ones away and the girls with the lanyard? My friend is Laos and getting married in a traditional way so I am just trying to learn before I go
