i swear i cant handle one more "gO tO wAr FiGhTiNg CoMmS" video with a $20 toy radio. if the accompanying pouch and ptt costs more than the radio, its just not cut out for field use.
I understand your concern and I’m not saying every $20 radio is the same. Having personally used these radios in the field for over five years in all weather conditions and witnessed how effective they can be when coupled with appropriate tradecraft I have no problem recommending them. Of course no one says you can’t spend your hard earned money on more expensive radios. I also have many other radios, the likes of which I don’t feel like advertising on the interwebs.
I second the comment that if the pouch and accessories cost more than the radio, it's not a durable radio. I honestly cannot believe you have used a single Baofeng unit for 5 years with great results. Especially if you have "other radios that you are not posting on the internet." I'm not calling you out or anything. If you are just using a BF as a prop for opsec, I have no argument with that.
@@BadlandsRifleman sure, they are acceptably performing VHF/UHF analog HTs in fair conditions. They are not outstanding compared against other radios in their class, and simply are not rugged in any way. If you are recommending them, I struggle to believe you have radios you "don't feel like advertising". Especially because there is no such thing as an illegal radio, only FCC regulated activities on those radios. This isn't even about your one video per se, there's just a flood of inexperienced operators spreading bad, ignorant, or even outright wrong information in a community hungry for good comms content.
Well bud, you’re more than welcome to produce your own content and help share your knowledge like I’m trying to do. I’ve personally used these radios in adverse conditions and after leaving them out in said conditions they continue to work just fine. I’ve used these radios to avoid dedicated signals intelligence teams and still get my messages through both via voice and digital means, so I guess I don’t really know what else they need to do to be considered “good”. As far as these being a viable means of communicating in a conflict that’s already been proven all the world multiple times, from Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Ukraine and probably many other hell holes. The only caveat being what SigInt assets are in play.
I use the Baofeng pouch by Bees Combat. It flips down to access the buttons.
I’ll check out out, thanks!
Make sense to keep the radio hidden. I don’t have one yet so I’ll keep this in mind for my first one
Definitely don’t buy into the high speed cool guy radio stuff. There’s a lot of information out there that seems almost intentionally bad.
Just remember, Skills>Gear
@____________838 100%!! Before I ever put a radio on my gear I went and got the training to use it properly.
Good information especially about "hiding" your comms. Never thought of that b4 but it does make sense.
Nate
Deception and misdirection are key for any irregulars! Thanks for checking out the vid!
