    I was diagnosed with NAFLD back in 2018 after many nights of suffering from Night Sweats & Leg Cramping. I was 321lbs then - my highest weight ever. I was 57 years old then. I was also diagnosed at almost the same time with Hemochromatosis. I had a liver biopsy performed and I had high levels of iron in my liver. I had liver fibrosis occurring. I was also eating a high-carb diet. I immediately went on the Keto Diet. Since then I’ve lost 150lbs. I am now 170lbs. I also required weekly phlebotomies because my Ferritin was 4580. Four years later my Ferritin is now in the 50’s. But, it gets better - I just needed an aortic valve replaced - not related to NAFLD - due to a congenitally defective valve. If I had not lost 150lbs and reversed my severe fatty liver, I don’t believe I would be able to withstand my Open Heart Surgery. I would like to add that I was and am a non-drinker and non-smoker. So, carbs cause a fatty liver. Put the pasta, pizza, bread, and sugary products down - get rid of them.

      Sort of where you are. At my heaviest I was 241 with Hemochromatosis. I got that under control with 11 phlebotomies and
      a diet change. Keto by the way. I am now 214 and will be getting a liver ultrasound real soon due to NAFLD. I also got my AIC down to 5.8. Folks, you can get there, but you have to be dedicated. Thankfully, I quit smoking in November of 1999 and walk quite a bit due to my job. GLAD you made those changes and are still with us! Stay well! :-)

A trend these past two years, lose 5-7 lbs in approx 6-7 weeks and it comes back between week 6-8. Suspect inflammation. I am a CFNC, Yoga teacher and I cannot get this weight down. I am a student of MSc. Health Psychology so I seem to have gained an even greater interest into this now! I was also diagnosed with NAFLD recently but fat 'nodules' were discovered in an ultrasound back in 2020 though I said to the doctor that means fatty liver disease, they at the time said 'I would not call it that yet'. In 2022 the ALT result was about double out of normal range and then it came back nearer normal but still out of range. A ultrasound then diagnosed NAFLD. I think the key message is, clear and accurate knowledge is so important. If I had been told earlier on in a clear way what this meant/what to do it may have stopped any further issues. This is preventable in almost all stages and even then it is still important to maintain a healthy weight and lower the risk factors. Thank you for this video. It I suppose can be quite minor but a vital indication that something needs to change generally for health and quality of living.

Also had a hemangioma in the left lobe. Have already been on the Mayo Clinic Diet and lost 25 pounds. So this video is very timely for me and explained a lot. Given that the obesity rates in North America are climbing, I wonder if doing liver profile bloodwork during your annual physical would pick up the liver disease before it progresses too far? Thats the only way mine was picked up. I was relieved to hear the Dr say that the sacrring can be reversed .

    I came across this video b/c trying to get some info on the reason I seem so tired or fatigued, even after a night's sleep.
    Now, I'm unable to say that I actually "sleep" for any length of time. It's more like I'm in & outta sleep. So I wouldn't say that it's a restful sleep.
    Anyway, I'm making plans to get my liver checked soon. I'm a senior [over 60] & I've never had alcohol, but am considered morbidly obese, so that definitely may be the problem. Difficult, but working on losing weight the healthy way.

    Thanks for another great video docs. Love your senses of humour. I worry about my liver because I’m on a statin and have been for a long, long time. I hate being on it but I trust my family doctor and he says even with dietary changes (I’m pretty much 100% plant based and no longer drink alcoholic bevies) I have risk factors that make it unadvisable to go off the statin. Can medications contribute to fatty liver? On a lighter note - try the Corona Sol alcohol free beer - it’s really good!

    The thing I've found with most doctors, they tell you that you have xyz problem, and here's a pill for it. But they rarely make the time to go into detail about why you have it, and what it really means. And why you should take their advice.
    When a doctor slows down and really explains stuff - like THIS channel, you really take more ownership of your health and understand WHY you need to change.

    Another excellent vid. So about a year or so ago, my doc noticed some elevated liver enzymes in my blood work and referred me to a specialist. Interestingly, this specialist did want me to start taking Vitamin E. During and prior to this time, I also had started to change my diet to a more protein-based, reduced carbs regimen. Anyway, not sure if all that, plus the vitamin E (which I'm guessing based on this video doesn't do much.) did the trick - as well as some weight loss & exercise, my last blood test came back and,those AST and ALT levels.. BOOM!, went back down like if nothing had happened.. Clearly, the liver is a stellar organ. I'm continuing the diet deal, along with swimming & for kicks, Vitamin E .. what the hey... and we'll see if I can keep going in the right direction. As usual, great vid, info & always enjoy hearing from Dr. Arya. Thanks again for another great video!

    Hi doctors. Thank you so much for the very informative video. I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in 2019. Prior to that, I never had any high liver enzymes. At the time of my diagnosis, my ferritin levels were really low. So, I was put on iron supplements. After a few years on a gluten free diet, I was retested and all of a sudden, the ALT levels rose dramatically and went up to 3 times the normal level. I reduced the iron supplements to next to nothing the past few years but my ALT levels still remain high. My doctor thinks it could be caused by the high carbs and sugar in the gluten free food I have to eat. My weight has gone up significantly since going on the gluten free diet. I don't eat anything different than I did before except for eating the gluten free version. I'm exercising and moving all the time as well. I've tried green tea and black coffee to reduce the levels as well but have had no success. I also do not drink alcohol. Any suggestions? Unfortunately, I can't drop the gluten free food due to Celiac Disease. Thank You.

No symptoms but I am guessing I do because I have a lot of fat around the middle. Hoping to lose the 70 lbs in the next year or so. I am 72 and am working hard to stay healthy. Chris, I also lost 30 lb recently and I ended up with severe gallstones and gallbladder disease. I got that removed and then I found out I have fatty liver. It's mild. I have never been a drinker or smoker. I still have about 40 lb left. I'm in my mid-60s and female. It happens to a lot of us after menopause. Women tend to gain a lot of weight around the middle. I was always very active and ate pretty well. I was very thin when I went through menopause. Then unfortunately, I suffered a couple of health issues. Who said these were the golden years lol? I'm not sure who coined that phrase haha. Good luck to you and good job :-)

    I’ve lost about 54 pounds from 318 pounds over a year and a half. I played college football and was a lineman, so a lot of it was muscle as well. I went into the doctor for a physical and they caught it on a blood test and ultrasound. I felt a slight pull or feeling but nothing painful which seems to have lessened a lot. Around 260 right now and plan to get to 210, but I was wondering when you say Stage 1&2 reversible to a healthy liver do you mean cured? Many medical sites such as northshore throw the two words around interchangeably and I am confused.

    So if 1/3 of the population has fatty liver why aren’t there more noninvasive tests, less expensive (I.e. blood test) available for detection? Also, which is more of proponent of fatty liver, weight or alcohol consumption?

    • @TalkingWithDocs
      @TalkingWithDocs  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Goth. So a blood test cannot reliably identify a fatty liver. It can document inflammation of the liver or hepatitis by revealing elevated liver enzyme tests. By definition, a non-alcoholic fatty liver is related to wait rather than alcohol consumption. Alcohol consumption can lead to a fatty liver as well as ultimately to cirrhosis. I drink a cup of black coffee in the morning then eat one meal. The real benefit was my glucose level. I was on metformin for type two diabetes with my blood sugar at about 125. After four months it dropped to 100! Now it hovers around 85. I no longer take the metformin. Once a month I fast 48 hours. That’s pretty much it.
