  • Really rather glorious, this. Rodlington Stewart with Ronnie Lane, Ronnie Wood, Ian McLagan and Kenney Jones tearing the arse out of Macca's 'Maybe I'm Amazed' in 1972. Marvellous as the original is, this really has something to it.

    I'm a 64 year old guy who saw them 5 times from 1971 until they imploded. I am also sitting here with tears streaming down my face. This brings back some wonderful memories, and some sad ones,too.

      That's truly so sweet....nothing wrong with blokes getting emotional on occasions.
      This cover is absolutely outstanding.....and the half drunk swagger they have is pure and natural.
      Before the internet and social media made everyone an immediate star (in their eyes anyway), that kind of bravodo was the norm from the 60's to the 90's.
      It's still there with many bands........but the amount of nonsense music that the younger generations are sucking up, is having a detrimental effect on youth culture, being part of a new scene, and individualism.
      But at least we have our memories, and we're there during the times when music was pure and un-filtered!

      Never too young to learn about the old stuff. I was 12 in 71. It was an amazing time for kids who loved music. It creeps into your DNA, burns itself into your heart and keeps you young. I'm 65 and I still love this music. Welcome to the tribe. Hope you're dancing and passing it on to the youngsters long after I'm gone. Rock n roll will NEVER die! God bless!❤

      Ronnie Lane was tight with a lot of people; everybody loved him dearly! And we know why! He was just a precious cat who was full of life and liked to have fun....and just one of those special souls. George Harrison another special soul. Hmmm, who else? Oh I bet they all love Jeff Lynne, but as much as I do love him and respect his incredible talents, I don’t think of him in the same way I would Ronnie or George! Help me out, I’ve been at it too long....

    When Rod kicks in with his voice...….fuck......nobody compares to him. Quite possibly the best band in the world at the time. And Ronnies bass playing in this is bloody awesome.

      What is just so ultra cool about this is the contrast between Ronnie's voice...a sweetness, slightly country/folk vibe starting it off...then Rod plows in like a powerful, dirty freight train! Then the breakdown with both of them singing together. Whew! chill bumps. And Ronnie's bass playing! Badazz! This whole band just had a a thing together.

      Glen Matlock was a fan of the Faces apparently. If you listen to some of his early recordings with the Sex Pistols like Spunk, and especially the instrumental demo of No Feelings, I think you can hear the influence.
      He may not have been as proficient a player as Ronnie Lane, but it sounds pretty catchy to me.
      Pity they replaced him with someone who didn't know much about playing the bass at all really.

    Rod lives near me when he is the UK. I have never met him personally but know a lot of people who have & to a man & woman they all say what a great guy he is, really friendly, a star who actually enjoys his stardom!

    What an absolutely great, soulful interpretation of McCartney's powerful lovesong.
    Ronnie opens it with a heartfelt set-up for Rod to come in with his gritty, raspy, whisky-soaked voice that crackles with electricity.
    The talent on this little stage honoring the former Beatle.
    You have representation of future Rolling Stones, The Who, Jeff Beck Group...just wonderful.

    I come back every month or so just to listen to this song and to reinforce my belief that The Faces were the greatest rock and roll band of all time. Every artist was at the peak of their forms in these years. We will never see that again.

    Maybe I’m amazed how Rod could pay such a respectful and top-quality vocal homage to such a wonderful Paul’s song! Thumbs up for those who wish a mega star band (Paul on bass, Ringo on drums, Keith on lead guitar, Ronnie on rhythm guitar, Elton and Billy on piano/keyboards, Rod and Mick on vocals) doing a farewell tour at least just once across the whole world saying goodbye to the golden age of pop and rock music (60s, 70s & 80s).     The Faces were great. Shambolic at times, but when they were tight they were unbeatable. Loved hearing Ronnie and Rodders singing together. Their voices meshed really well.

    Rod Stewart is one of the greatest lead Vocalists/Showmen I ever saw. He was so lucky that an even stronger vocalist, Steve Marriott left him the finest rhythm section of the 60s, Kenny Jones, the unique Ian McLagen and the Poacher, Ronnie Lane.

    The beginning here is really wild. Ronnie Lane delivers the first verse better than 99 out of 100 singers could; strong and sweet enough to break your heart. Then Rod comes in and blows him away; where have you gone, Rod?
    A great version of a great song.

      Makka sang all the notes of this beautiful melody ,admittedly in a studio.Live versions tend to 'cheat' by avoiding the high challenging range, Stewart just does his version with some wrong lyrics and murders the tune.
      His fans like the intensity and roughness.I think it is shite.

    The version of this on "Long Player" blew me away when I first heard it and this version is even better. Ronnie Lane's opening verse really makes you realise what a tragic loss he was.

    I love when Ronnie’s beginning to sing; he’s singing as if nobody’s watching! How cool was that? And didn’t he have moxie? People (including fans who would never even meet him ) were drawn to him! It’s his aura that’s decidedly unencumbered; which is appealing in any human being....You’re so so missed, Ronnie!

There is an awesome video here on youtube from The Faces playing Wembley stadium (1986?) where Ronnie Lane is seated on stage with only a microphone. He was already in the late stages of the disease. But you could see the love his bandmates and the crowd had for him in that performance.

    The first gig I went to was The Who in 1969...a couple of months after they performed at Woodstock. The second gig I went to was Faces at Birmingham Town Hall in early 1970, just after First Step was released. Very, very lucky to have been 16 in 1970, fit ready and able to enjoy such fab sounds. Faces never out of my top three faves....absolutely love this.

    I'm 50 but my brothers and sister were 7,8,9 years older than me so I grew up listening to these bands and my sister had crush on Rod Stewart. Just watching this reminds of the days of true bands before big corporations ruined it. If I could go back I would even though I listened most of the time to heavier bands, these guys had it all. I also miss the days of AM radio where they played a little of everything.

      Saw them live but frankly, the best part of the show was when the band was just jamming the blues and sliding it up to Rock and Roll and then back again. I was in awe of their talent. Rod wasn't even on the stage yet. :)

      It's drool time , I was a lucky boy at 18 1971 we just moved to south England and rod and the faces were playing at the local opera house , boscombe , Bournemouth , U.K. Me and a couple of buds banged on the back stage door and the roadies let us in , I'm leaning on the PA system looking out over a sea of women , brilliant !

    what a joy to hear the faces live again. technology allows us to share so many great experiences from the past, but it's also helped kill musicianship and live music. pre internet, pre-mtv, we used to just get an album and wear out the groves playing it. if one of your bands would finally come to town, the show was an event that you and your friends would be excited about for months before and after. we didn't know it was a fleeting era at the time

    Saw this pure blood and guts rock n roll band at the Sutton Granda in 1973......Best gig I’ve ever been to.
    They really were the nuts , proper music played by proper blokes . Kids of today ..please have a listen.

    Faces was one of those bands with a built-in quality. Like the Stones, Beatles and a few others.....even the songs of theirs that weren't huge favorites were still played real well and eventually snuck up on you!
