It is going to be very difficult for the older generation that are used to Direct TV. I tried to get an elderly neighbor switched over to a streaming service with his Starlink internet. He wanted to go back to Dish because they had channels laid out mor like TV of the past and the programming was on a timeline that he was used to. The switch will be hard for the older generations.

They are call channel flippers. I have seen it were they will sit for hours flipping channels and never stop. By the way a 1 hour tv show has 20 min. of commercials so if you watch 3 cable 1 hr shows you watch 1 Hr of commercials.

In general true. However, I'm 68 and have had Starlink since 2021 with no problems. Even a "caveman" can set it up. Plus, in addition to the speed I like having the option of subscribing to different streamers or none at all. There's still plenty of no cost internet information and entertainment - advertising will always be a part of the internet.

I had Direct TV from the early days. When BBCA started with Dr Who, I asked for BBCA and was told that Direct TV had all the channels possible. I canceled and went to Dish. Later I realized that I was watching about 4 or 5 channels for, at the time, $120 per month. I dropped that one.
Now I watch youtube, Pluto, and Tubi and pay only for fiber rural internet, not even $40 per month provided by a local Texas tele co-op.

Hi J, I’m in the UK and recently found your channel and love your content. I couldn’t agree with you more about being happy that the big major companies are finally getting a taste of their own medicine. I hope they all collapse and go bankrupt so they can feel what they’ve done to everyone over the years. I’ve been with Virgin media for over 10 years now , last month I bought a Starlink gen3/4 and cancelled my contract with Virgin media and couldn’t be happier. Thanks again 😊

It's been 1 year now, since I got Starlink and fired Century Link/ Lumen. Starlink is simply awesome!
I'm no longer being financially raped paying for a service that would crap out often, once for over a moth. As well as, being obliged to pay for a land line that was just an encroachment for robo call molestation.
My homicidal ideations went away after I fired Century Link/ Lumen. No senior executives were made examples of and I sleep well now. There is now zen peace under my roof.
With Starlink, I can now function in this modern society once again and have total control.

Quite a story this with Direct TV buying Dish Network. The Island of Saint Barthélemy, which caters for many American clients, has access to Dish Network. I don’t know how it is done but I doubt if it is legal as this is a French Island!!!. It sure is expensive!!! We have just installed Starlink at our Villa here and I’d love to dump Dish! Obviously as you say streaming is now the thing and I have no idea if we can get streaming. Would that problem be solved with a VPN? Does a VPN have to be on an individual’s computer? Your advice would be very helpful.

This is a long time coming, I’m sure you saw the writing on the wall over a decade ago.
Quite a few years back it became clear that streaming and internet TV/phone was the future.
My first realization of this fact was in 2002. I had a customer that had cancelled their standard home phone service for cellular only- this was rare back then. It’s not exactly the same thing as what you’re discussing, but at the time it made it very clear to me. There was a tech disrupter in the telecommunications markets. In 2013 I cut my land based television account. Right now I know very few people that still use cable TV. This is an ever evolving market.
The fact that people like you and me could see this trend occurring for years- and companies like ATT and Cox are so late to figure it out makes me wonder who’s in charge of these corporations.

the simple channel guide I get from direct tv is the main reason I wont leave them. Local channels is also another huge reason. I live in an area where I cant get basic local channels. Yes I could get these over my starlink but trying to navigate different channels is a nightmare. I like the ease of surfing the directv channel guide. I also have several tv's in my house and starlink could not handle that bandwidth smoothly. I have no options for cable or fiber so Im left with limited choices and have no plans or future plans of dropping directv. The day some one comes up with a simple programable channel guide program with all the many different internet streaming services Is when I would consider dropping directv.

I have Starlink. I have 5 TV's my house, no problem. I had DirecTV for over 20 years and switched and in two weeks I could navigate to everything I wanted to see with no problem. Total cost is also cheaper. TH-cam has a simple channel guide and so to several other channel bundle providers. Spend a little time and effort and see whats there.

It just takes a long time for a big ship to sink. With Starlink and streaming, I can't even imagine going back to "Cable Channels" Yuck! 😫

What in the world is the strategy in a loser buying a loser! DirecTV, Dish, and AT&T do deserve each other. After being on DTV for years, I finally got Starlink a few months ago. Performance is excellent, and streaming my tv watching has not been hard to figure out.
I thought I wanted local channels but have found that as my political position has evolved, I find I don't watch any programming from the major networks. Also, pro sports and their spoiled athletes has made watching sports undesirable. Liberal bull crap has seeped into every facet of American life, even the United Methodist Church has gone LGBTQ+ and seems to be totally run by Liberals! (Go Global Methodist!)
I may be close to throwing my TV out in the yard!

Living in rural indian river county FL, I had no choice for over 12 years, to pay Hughes net $117.00 per month and Direct tv $258.00 per month. Dealing with atrociously slow speeds. Also had the added expenses of purchasing tablets and watches with LTE service through Verizon and several jet packs for running my business. Grateful for starlink. Game changer!! 🎉

High inflation, high interest rates, and high debt all causing companies issues. Borrowing more debt to pay past debt with less money future innovation. Commercial loans are not 30 year fixed like mortgages but 2-3-5 year variable rates. These are starting to come due. Just like our government just paying interest on 35 trillion but no principle payment.

Hello JCristina!! This one here was a banger! I was waiting for someone to go in and talk about this merger between Dish and Directv. I and my wife have been a customer of Directv for years. I would disagree with you on saying that Satellite TV is dead. With this merger, Directv will now become the largest pay per TV provider in the country. There are pros and cons to cable/Satellite TV as there are with streaming. There are millions and millions of customers who still have and use cable!Satellite TV. As you stated, there are many rural customers that don't have access to internet. I don't know one person, friend, or family that have Elon's Sapce X Starlink. That is still new to most people. Directv does have some advantages with their hardware as in comparison to a streaming device like Roku or the Firestick. I can go on, but just wanted to chime in. This video was a good one and you point out many of the caviots with Dish and Directv, but Satellite TV is not going anywhere any time soon. Have a good one.❤

I agree with you 200%. I'm 77 and fairly savvy on all of this and still cling to Directv. I've had Starlink for over two years and love it but can't bring myself to drop DTV. None of the streaming services can offer the same experience I get with D and I still have the threat of data caps lurking in the back of my mind. Trying to migrate the little woman over to streaming would be damn near impossible. She does not accept change well.

    • @keithbrown454
      @keithbrown454 5 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

@goodgr100 Lol!! I totally understand. It is my wife on why we have Directv for the most part also. I certainly agree that the whole experience with Directv is way better than with those streaming devices i.e. Roku and Firestick. All you mostly get with the streaming services and devices are tons of thumbnails and a little information. The Directv guide and experience is so much better with it's better graphical intuitive interface. Streaming is okay, but if your internet connection is not fast enough and reliable, so goes the experience. I love Directv.

I started a company many years ago doing trade shows and Internet sales of Android TV Boxes that I program for all free TV and no monthly charges. Cable and Satilight TV is soon to be a thing of the past just like the 8 Track Tape. Having good internet and smart TV's and products like I sell is the future of Television.

I agree that Starlink played a role in cutting value of Satellite TV. That and the switch to streaming services also played a huge role. Then broadband fiber providers like ignite partnerships with local electric companies also had their role of pushing people away from Cable companies like Spectrum and XFinity. Starlink would directly be responsible more than anything else for Satellite data services like Hughes net and others due to the faster latency with Leo orbit versus Geo Orbit. While latency not a huge issue with browser internet it is definitely a huge issue for gaming like WOW and Call of Duty.

Musk was lucky starting all his companies when interest rates lowest in history. Rivian and other startups started later with more debt. All this inflation and high interest rates hurts small businesses and startups as with all businesses with high debt. Inflation is slowing meaning prices do not rise as fast. Prices will not decrease as governments want at least 2% inflation to keep money on the cheaper inflated side to pay creditors devalued money. 2019 gold $1200/ounce now $2600/ounce reflecting devalued dollar. Deflation would help consumers more as it would decrease prices and make the dollar more valuable. Buy more stuff with less dollars

Wonder if they could use any of those sats for backhaul in areas where it would be hard to run fiber. You would think Starlink could make a fleet of sats to speed up the GEO to LEO. Just thinking out loud but in my pea brain I bet Starlink could figure out a way to make it work. It would be slower but in some areas it might soeed up their connection at the cost of latency. You could have control to go onky Starlink or combined. Maybe Elon will end up owning them in the end. 😂😂😂

What happens when Starlink puts DirectTV and the other satellite companies out of business? Won't they just raise their prices, then there is nothing you can do about it since there is no one left in the game for competition. That's how most of these large corporations work, take a loss for the first several years while building the user base, then raise the prices once everyone is hooked and there is little to no competition left.
