Thank you for this post. I always love hearing Ryu Umemoto pieces I've never heard of. He was a great composer with a unique style that can never be imitated.
+Julian Smith Unique style is totally right. Anybody who's heard his stuff would know immediately that this was Umemoto! He was a brilliant guy. I really love this track too, especially once it picks up around 2:15. Dat bass!
I know Ryu Umemoto composed his melodies so mathematically they would amount so certain numbers in Zen Buddhism. Does anybody know what it means in terms of music composition and how to apply this philosophy to music making?
...I do not. But there may be a article or old interview out there where this is elaborated upon(?) Try checking anything Audun Sorlie wrote about him for HG101 / at least starting there
Love his soundtrack for Yu-No. He makes great harmonies. He's a huge inspiration, and I worship him as much as other great composers. Although I never met you, rest in peace, Umemoto...
No idea, but I’ve heard this too… barf. Let’s just say I’m not a fan of Sam Hyde, to put it very lightly. IDK if he took this from my part in an old Fancy Lad skate video (he was definitely watchin’ Fancy Lad stuff for a time - we hail from Massachusetts too and make comical skate vids) or possibly found it on a mix of video game music cboyardee/Chef Boyardee used to have hosted somewhere. He almost certainly didn’t find it on his own - back around the time I posted this, you had to dig DEEP. Think I found it on some random Japanese site. AFAIK the track isn’t in the main game and isn’t the intro track either..? Shop Demo themes were extra-hype jams Japanese composers would throw together for, as the title alludes to, bangin’ teaser clips that would play at the game stores to draw people in 😺 I think it MIGHT be a variation of the intro theme, only with more instruments/way more hype/longer 🤷♂️
th-cam.com/video/LEgxS_vzQjU/w-d-xo.html (without music) th-cam.com/video/f7bqIRUTN1Y/w-d-xo.html (with music). so no it was never used in an official MDE video just a re-edit on youtube

I wouldn’t be surprised if he ripped it from cboyardee, legendary meme-master of yore.
@MikeLindquist also I'm sorry to disappoint you but same has been at this shit for 15 years and has had way more out there references and music pieces in his videos. Especially his older stuff. Even some of his jokes reference canceled 70s sitcoms. He may have taken this one song. But he definitely has had his eccentric tastes from his beginning in 06. So unless he's bitten from people starting, then I highly doubt he didn't.
@@dreamghost1068 oh, I don’t doubt at all he’s got a unique taste in tunes. I’m just saying that at the time I downloaded this song, the only place you would be able to find it was on some VERY random obscure Japanese site with PC-98 and Sharp X68000 music, pages and pagessss back in a Google search. You’d have had to know about Ryu Umemoto, who was at the time 99% unheard of in the west since nearly all of his music was from shit like various PC-98 dating sims with titles that probably hadn’t even been translated to English yet. There was eventually a playlist cboyardee threw together with this song on it. My best guess is that’s how Sam found it, since cboyardee is basically a pioneer of what’s become a lot of stuff in meme culture after the fact (he made those Dilbert animations way before people were doing surreal humorous MSPaint videos, he’s the one who started Shrek being a meme). Ahh, the internet days of yore. I used to talk to cboyardee a bit, was not surprised to see that he also found this song haha. He’s deeeep into the ultra obscure music from games on old Japan-only computers 👍

Keep coming back to this
So sad to know that the the creator of this amazing song is gone, what a cool guy.
This is the most gangsta picture ive ever seen
It goes from ambient, then to really funky. Such a smooth and natural transition.
最初の音色だけで彼の曲だと直感させる。唯一無二の作曲家だと思う
What an absolute banger. Square should have snapped this guy up and given him the world.
umemoto looks like a boss in this picture

I genuinely appreciate your comment! I level up every time I listen to this jam.

Sounds like something that would play in Ultraman or Power Rangers.
Is this really OPNA?
Any recommendations of music that has the same spirit?
