For those who doubt TFanPage's word, the Consumer Product Safety Commission has listed guidelines for what companies like Hasbro would need to do in order to sell a look-alike gun Megatron *toy*. These have been in effect since 1989 and would massively compromise your "show-accurate" figure: --A blaze orange (AMS STD 595A-17 color 12199) or orange color brighter than that specified by the AMS standard color number, solid plug permanently affixed to the muzzle end of the barrel as an integral part of the entire device and recessed no more than 6 mm from the muzzle end of the barrel; --A blaze orange (AMS STD 595A-17 color 12199) or orange color brighter than that specified by the AMS standard color number, marking permanently affixed to the exterior surface of the barrel, covering the circumference of the barrel from the muzzle end for a depth of at least 6 mm; --Construction of the device entirely of transparent or translucent materials which permits unmistakable observation of the device's complete contents; --Coloration of the entire exterior surface of the device in white, bright red, bright orange, bright yellow, bright green, bright blue, bright pink, or bright purple, either singly or as the predominant color in combination with other colors in any pattern. The result of what's listed would make for a Megatron figure that's closer to the classics version with colors, but with modern translucent plastic on the main body that would compromise the sturdiness of the figure. I think Megatron should have a stationary canon/gun emplacement mode as compromise, at least it somehow closer to G1 since as Galvatron he was Gun emplacement. Going from mobile tank to stationary canon is downgrade not a improvement.
No one wants to see a story about a kid getting shot by the police because he has a 9mm on him..... turns out to be a SS86 Megatron.... it's 2024, you can't have a kid running around with a realistic gun.
It's sad that's the sentiment instead of; "It's 2024, have we not evolved enough as a society to not have to rely on the govt to keep us safe from scary toy guns? It's not like kids can't get realistic looking bb guns. Hell those kids that got shot back in the 80's were playing at night in the dark anyway. The same thing could happen with a nerf gun if it was dark enough.

I personally feel that megatron being a gun in the first place was a kinda set back. He was mostly in robot mode anyway for most of g1. Not to say I hate it, but had he been a tank from the very beginning or just something with urgency, I feel like this wouldn’t be an issue. But then again this is an overblown issue in general from what I’m hearing

Yeah, you're wholly right here. - No Hasbro exec wants to wake up and read the headline "Cop shoots child holding Transformers toy", and kids have already been shot by cops because they were holding Wii Remotes or phones or literally nothing. They're never going to take that risk. - If they did, Megatron would have to be a technicolour, translucent mess of a figure in order to properly convey that he was in fact a transforming robot toy and not a real gun. This would destroy the accuracy of the figure anyway. - Megatron turning into a gun was always really silly. Man is the Targetmaster for his least-trustworthy underling. It only happened because Hasbro decided that they could sell the Microchange figure for the same price as Optimus if they included the Man From UNCLE accessories. If not for that we probably would've got one of the other Diaclone figures as Megatron. Bring on the Tank Megs, and may it be retooled into Cyberverse and IDW1 versions of the character in figure! (Actually, MTMTE Megatron may be a decent model for how to make the tank disappear into the robot mode, since the treads hide really well in robot mode)

People shouldn’t be surprised that 86 Megatron isn’t going to transform into a pistol… and honestly, I don’t mind what alt mode he turns into- as long as his figure isn’t another repaint of his WFC trilogy mold and that he has his gun mode added as a separate accessory other figures could wield to reenact scenes from the movie… I’m perfectly fine with it.
Yes. Frankly the gun mode is really stupid that the leader of the decepticons has an alt mode that he can’t use alone. I love gun mode megatron as much as any G1 fan but at long as we get his scaled gun mode included with the figure I’m happy with it.

For as long as I was into Transformers, Megatron has almost always been a tank so this has never bothered me, though I have always felt the fact that Megatron needed to be wielded by a subordinate in gun mode was interesting. The gun accessory would be a good compromise in my opinion, especially since Hasbro has the mold for one from the Siege Centurion pack. There IS a cut scene from the Heavy Metal War episode where Megatron was supposed to turn into a fighter jet when fighting Optimus as one of his borrowed powers, so perhaps that could be something added to the Concept Art Studio Series line?
While yes,Legal issues and all that,they should do something like they did with the core class figure in Kingdom, give him an acsessory of himself thats painted and give the stock barrel and scope and make him be 5mm compatible
As a gewunner I am annoyed at geewunners right now because of course there is no way they'd be able to make a gun Megatron that wouldn't look silly. Also tanks are fun, a Megatron flightly bigger than Siege that hides the tank kibble better would also be a more straightforward transformation than going from Walther P38 to the animation model that looks way too different from the toy.
Since the original gun mode isn't possible, I think about what's the next best thing and the closest we can get to that iconic weapon from the show. To me, the gun turret would be the best compromise as it maintains the spirit of the original gun mode while staying true to the cartoon, where other Decepticons wielded him. The Helicopter and Jet modes aren't bad either, as they align with the Decepticons' flying motif. However, my concern is that they might be leaning more into the Devastation design rather than sticking to the original G1 bot mode. This could result in treads on the back instead of the clean look with the barrel that we're all used to. I'm conflicted about it. On one hand, I understand the need for compromise, but I still believe they could have come closer to the original alt-mode with that turret. Especially after seeing all that art from Guido Guidi and Quillobyte, it feels like the designers took the easy way out with this one. Alternatively, I could see this as a dream HasLab project that caters exclusively to adult fans, but I’m not sure if they could navigate the legal details to make that happen. At this point, I can only hope for the best-and that the bot mode looks great.
The turret is basically the gun with a platform beneath it. So it could still be easily mistaken for a real gun if you held it by the bottom like the gun grip
I understand that laws nowadays don't allow a Megatron with gunmode and I am definitively fine with another altmode in any other line. But in Studio Series? If you can't do it, let it be.
All of this 💯. I only got back into collecting Transformers at the start of the pandemic, and 4 years later, I'm beyond sick and tired of hearing people complain about this. Hasbro will NEVER produce another gun mode Megatron for retail in the US and no amount of complaining on Xwixxer, FB, TH-cam, etc. will ever change that fact. I can understand why that upsets some people, but it's really time to move on.
Enough is enough with the idiotic "no realistic toy gun" law. This was never as big as a problem as they made it out to be. I personally had the original toy and miraculously managed to not get shot by police mistaking it for a real gun. Right now, in stores all across America, there are airsoft / bb guns that are EXACT replicas of a multitude of modern popular handguns. Couldn't one of those just as easily be mistaken for a real gun? It's past time to revisit that law. Have companies put a damn warning label on the box and an orange plug in the barrel (that we can remove) and give us G1 accurate Megatron! If it's not a Walther P38, don't make a "the movie" SS86 version.
So the distinction is in the label? I had a bb gun when I was a kid. Right now, all across America, a parent can just as easily buy thier kid a bb / pellet gun licensed to look exactly like a glock or walter ppq (ironic) as they could a Transformer or Nerf gun. The logic of the law is faulty and was enacted as a knee jerk reaction to a manufactured "epidemic". Go look up the history. Can anyone point to statistics that show it changed anything? All I'm saying is that there's no logical consistency.
Giving a realistic gun toy to a kid is worrying as unfortunately their has been cases In the USA where guns are too common, a cop had a second to make a choice on if the gun someone holding was real or not and unfortunately, has resulted in the loss of life of kids Until the day guns are put under control their, the safety of the children must come before pandering to a form Megatron has not been for over half his existence now.
I have not grown on g1 but when i saw Megatron turning into a gun i found it cool but also odd cuz it didn't fit Megatron very well but i have search on Google if g1 Megatron was a tank and gess what he is tank he simply didn't show it besides if Galvatron is a reincarnated version of Megatron why Galvatron didn't turn in to a hand gun but he turn a Cybertronian plasma tank. And i think a tank fits Megatron perfectly a tank is alot more badass more intimidating and alot more powerful than a hand gun cuz megatron he himself is a weapon he never say a gun.
I didn’t ever expect him to turn into a gun though I think the core class megatron had a nice compromise of making his gun mode as an extra accessory / tank mode component.
I do not think that they should release a Megatron in Studio Series '86 if it will be a tank. It makes no sense for this to be the one that is not film accurate. I understand that it means no Megs due to weapon laws, but we already have so many tank Megs.
If people want a gun Megs then buy the MP fig or don't get mad when Hasbro paints Megatron neon pink. Let's be honest with this. People are just bitching to bitch. The people who buy 86 Megs will keep him in botmode and put him on a self and not touch the fig for months or years until that person goes to sell it. Or here is a crazy idea. Just make it to where Megaton doesn't transform and give the most accurate screen version of his bot mode. Also just a slight correction. Megatron doesn't need anyone to fire him while in gun mode. It has been shown in the G1 cartoon he can fire himself in gun mode.
G1 Megatron is a great litmus test for those who cannot let go of their nostalgia, and are too drunk and addicted to it that they want reality to bend to appease them as much as possible, rather than growing up and looking at the world around them to understand the context of why things that were okay before aren't anymore, and how the reaches they make for the sake of the compromises just aren't worth it.
Transformers fans are really stupid sometimes. From “issues” like this where it’s clear Hasbro just wants to move past a legally dubious alt mode for a character. Or when people say that something on a figure shouldn’t been engineered to be different than it is on the actual figure, and then give zero insight on how that could be done. This video speaks major facts! I’ve already accepted the fact Megatron will never be a gun at all and to be honest, I prefer him to be a tank. A tank is more useful than a gun that does not get held by any figure. If the robot mode is cartoon accurate and very clean, then I’m good with that.

Also the figure itself becoming a gun wouldnt let u recreate that scene since he would be bigger then the figure thats soppused to hold him. Making the robotmode as accurete as they can while including a gunmode accesory for other figures is the best *possible* solution to the problem
I always figured he’d be a tank and I have no problem with that, my only hope is that he comes with his pistol mode as an accessory but even then that’s not necessary and more so just a bonus

It's been more than a little while since they released the Classics Megatron. I personally don't care but I understand people wanting an accurate representation of the character
All I want, is a whole new tank that isn't siege. Its overstayed its welcome more than the other molds, even the earthrise seeker. But I hope 86 megatron comes with a little gun accessory of himself for others to hold
When I heard they were going to do SS 86 Megs, my first thought was them doing what the core class did with the gun accessory that other figures can hold as the mass shifted version of him, and I really hope that's what they decide to do again, it's the perfect compromise. As long as they will make a brand new mold for Megatron, so that his robot mode is accurate, looks great, and is very articulated to fight Optimus, I'll be happy.
People will always complain about something Would I prefer the original alt mode? Of course, but I've made my peace with it. As long as the bot mode looks close to the on screen model and not another siege Megatron. I'll be happy, he's mostly gonna be in bot mode anyway.

And the tank mode is the only other alt mode that is most closely associated with him. It's fine that he transforms into a tank, just keep him in robot mode, and have his gun mode as an accessory for others to hold to represent him in that form, problem solved.

The best reason for an artillery Cannon turret (like rodimus prime's but single barrel one in his trailer) is that you can make it to where you take the base and pieces off and its a secret gun mode.
A better idea for Megatron to become something other than his gun Fusion Cannon Targetmaster Jet helicopter tank Race car Dragon dinosaur Stealth bomber Spaceship Cybertronian jet or tank Triple changer or more
They way i see it is that promoting this Megatron that will be yet another tank as a SS86 feels like a scam tbh, might as well not release him on the SS line and just add him into the legacy line instead. heck we already have the earthrise version so might as well just re-release that one but size up a bit to match the SS86 OP and a bit of retooling and call it a day.
@@Drout the earthrise mold has already been used so many times at this point, the latest fractured friendship 2 pack with that mold just might be the last use of it. I get people want the gun alt mode but it just ain’t gonna happen due to the restrictions of realistic guns as toys. besides, we’re long overdue for a new Megatron mold that isn’t earthrise… and as long as we get his gun mode as an accessory for other characters to use… i don’t mind whatever alt mode they decide to use.
To me, this is pretty much predictable, since we’ll never get a Megatron with a Gun Mode. Unless Takara make their own of the Megatron (Unfortunately it’s most likely gonna be exclusive to Japan, So good luck getting that version) And also, I don’t mind the Tank mode, but I kinda prefer a Jet Mode for Megs Like his Aligned/Prime counterpart. But I know that neither of them will be accurate to the movie.

Flying earth alt modes for Megatron are never coming back. That was cool because it was only in the 2000s-early 2010s and any more of them will make people just as sick as they are of the tanks
I think a ss86 tank is perfect as long as he has his gun form as an accessory. As long as the robot mode is amazing and the tank is decent, then the choice was perfect. People complaining about it being "not accurate" or "shouldn't be a ss86 figure" should just get over it and accept that it's not possible anymore. Especially since i can almost guarantee they'll have it in robot mode 90% of the time
I think that just due to the climate of guns in today's world, especially over here in the United States, on the the figure's key consumer markets, it would just be kind of disgusting to make him a gun. A tank would be small in comparison to a real one, meant for play, but that gun would life sized, and a little too close to comfort for some. I dont understand why people have the sheer vitriol for the tank. Like for the jet, I mean I like flying Megatron, but that tank is also a lot more synonymous with Megatron at this point. And the standing cannon is going a little too close to Galvatron's alt mode.
⚠️Tanks are too common. Blitzwing, Warpath and Brawl are tanks. If Megatron isn’t allowed to become a gun, then he should become a modern day artillery cannon that you see in the army. It continues the trend when Galvatron transforms into a futuristic cannon. OR maybe Hasbro can do this. Copy what they did with Siege Shockwave. Make Megatron’s alt-mode into a “spaceship” but sneakily have a gun design by flipping the spaceship upside down and after making some minor adjustments, you have Megatron in gun mode. Maybe not an exact P-38 but a generic gun mode.
One is an autobot, one is a triple changer, and the other is a combiner limb Megatron is not going to be less special especially if he is bigger than the other tank bots
In the cartoon he transforms into a gun that other transformers fire.....we could get a red figure and a accessory and call it good....i dont want that so a tank megs with an 86 accurate bot mode with a gun accessory would be pretty cool.
Im going to preface by saying that the tank mode should stay and be his 'definitive' alt mode. But i still think it wouldve been nice for them to try some sort of compromise for the 86 figure specifically. It was never going to be 100% accurate, but SS has been like that from the beginning, so doing something that sort of resembles his gun mode but make it look obscure like Shockwaves submarine mode wouldve been nice. All this was bound to happen and im sure they knew what they were getting onto when they introduced the 86 film into SS
I have a solution. Hasbro could partner with Takara for the G1 accurate figure to be manufactured in Japan and offered exclusively as a online order / mail away collecters item. They could do some sort of age verification or waiver or whatever they need and the price point would be slightly higher as an exclusive figure but cheaper than a masterpiece. They could do the orange plug (with shoddy glue) thing like with the masterpiece.
I just hope the tank mode is *good*. I know Concept Art Megatron never transformed into a tank, and got a stellar robot mode, but a lackluster tank and jet mode. I want the robot for 86 Megs to be good, but I don’t want them to skimp out on the tank mode. Hopefully it looks like a real/realistic earth tank, and not a Cybertronian one.
It’s not so much about the tank being better but about regulations. It’s the same reason shockwave and 6 shot had their guns labelled as space ship and submarine.
I commented this in Rodimus Primal's video. Judging by SS86 Optimus Prime, I think they can pull off a near perfect looking Megatron robot mode and still give him a tank alt mode. And while I wouldn't mind a concept art G1 Megatron with a jet alt mode, a tank works just fine since it's basically a large mobile gun. Although, I would still like them to do an artillery gun alt mode at some point, too.
Firstly, they've done that in RED, it didn't sell well and RED got canned. Secondly, just keep him in his robot mode and have his gun mode as an accessory for others to hold to represent him, problem solved right? And thirdly, he's still a transformer at the end of the day, he HAS to transform into something (other than a gun for obvious reasons) and the tank mode is the only other alt mode that is more closely associated with Megs for the past 30 years.
They shouldn’t even make it then maybe release it under another format not SS, no rush……have a special 86 Takara exclusive in movie accurate gun mode. Why mess up the line . There are so many tanks

SS Megatron will be the core class design. FANS need to give it up with ever seeing Megatron as a gun again. Actual TF fans know this and have accepted this. All these so call TF fans are the ones with all this wishing to have Megatron as a gun again. All they have to do is the research, it is that easy. Again Hasbro has a image to uphold and the Gun version of Megatron brings too much issues that Hasbro doesn't want to travel down.

I mean who doesn’t want a meaty tank? I think it’s a lot more intimidating being chased by a cannon on treads than a floating pistol. I’ll never get him as I have my Megatron already, but one thing I know we all want from him is the gun as an accessory to compensate

Dude, do you have any idea how complicated it would be to have a triple changer go between a tank and a gun? Not to mention that would probably massively compromise the robot modes look.
It still wouldn't be allowed and that would just put Hasbro in a compromised position for selling a toy with a hidden makeshift gun. At best, you'd see either a third party upgrade kit or a third/fourth party figure that keeps the same robot mode but changes the alt mode.
It's simple: it's called ss86. In 86 megatron wasn't tank, he was gun. And they doing that simply because usa laws? Guys, or release it only in europe/japan/whenever it's not breaking laws, or don't release it at all. And yea, megatron required to be held by another bot. That's the thing, because in 86 movie he becomes galvatron. It shows how megatron changed P.s. ok they won't, probably half of europe countries will ban gun-accurate megatron, so it's just not worth it. If it was only 1 or 2 countries, it would be ok, but no. But, what if they *had to* create it? What would be best way to sell it? Slap 18+ on this collector's stuff? Include his parts with other figures?

As someone who’s not really nostalgic for the gun mode, I always thought it was kinda dumb. I don’t buy that someone as self centred as megatron would allow other deceptions to “wield” him. Like, he berates starscream every five minutes, but lets him decide the outcome of a battle? That feels wrong to me
The issue is Megatron in the 86 movie transforms into a gun,so if you’re doing a faithful adaptation of G1 Megatron he should be true to his G1 form, so if Megatron can’t be true to his G1 self, Hasbro should’ve steered away from making this figure, but there is a solution, a third party company called new wave has made their version of SS86 Megatron in a voyager scale and yes he transforms into a walther p-38. He is up for preorder at show-z store right now, and no I’m not a sponsor.
The Hype is greatly exaggerated… People just want an accurate robot mode and a Turret or something OTHER than a Tank… G2 Green Tank is the Goat… if he’s a Tank Make the Real Tank Megatron. A Gun Mode is not to scale with Starscream… he needs a mini 5mm Gun for Screamer and that’s it… he could Literally NOT transform and have a Metric Ton of accessories and Accuracy in Robot… Hasbro will pull of an Epic 86 Megatron… I have faith
I honestly don't know what people were expecting. Sure, it isn't accurate but even then, legal restrictions are something Hasbro can't just ignore, plus, he hasn't been a gun in forever. Would it have been neat for them to finally have made him a gun again after so long? Sure, but would Hasbro be allowed to mass produce him without WAY more compromises? Unfortunately, no.

If you can't produce an item, then make something else. I don't think the objection is with it being a tank. If you need a new mould, put him in the standard line, not in the Studio Series line. Otherwise, make him non-transformable and have a gun accessory.
@@kousarpatel9449 Yeah that's very true. Any car that isn't a GM marque, and any aircraft that isn't LockMart or Sikorsky is probably not accurately represented in Studio Series. The Mercedes alts for DotM Soundwave and TLK Drift made it through mostly unscathed but largely everything outside of the main collaborators gets nothing. Hell, Hasbro _has_ a contract with Boeing, and use it for the MP Seekers, so they should've been able to make accurate F-4 and Harrier alts for Blitzwing and Shatter (since Boeing merged with McDonnell, who made the F-4 and the AV-8B), but they didn't. Shatter got a weird hybrid of the Harrier and the Yak-38, and Blitzwing got... a hideous first attempt at drawing a jet.

You set it best yourself and to be quite honest I wholeheartedly agree there's been transformers in the studio series lineup that we've had in the last 6 years of studio series that has had compromises because they either couldn't get their alt mode or the robot mode wasn't exactly right or screen accurate to the screen or there's been transformers with bad concept art that didn't really go well into the toy because the transformation compromises and the proportion compromises and the same thing all falls in here with 86 megs and personally I don't blame Hasbro for not wanting to push the boundaries of making a megatron transform into his Walter p38 from the show / movie Yes there are counter arguments can be made but again all counter arguments are just going to follow on deaf ears when Hasbro is not going to push the boundaries because of their stockholders and all of their executives because this is something that the marketing team themselves BMAC and Evan and Mark would I don't know Evan and Mark or not in marketing I know they're in designing but there's a head executives over the transformers department but they would have to go to the stockholders and their executives to get this to happen and if the executives in stockholders say no then they can't do it it's just at that point no and a lot of people just can't seem to take no for an answer so of course 86 Megatron is going to garnish some backlash just the fact that oh no he couldn't turn into a gun well the easiest trip to that is as you said yourself just give him a gun mode accessory that is literally him and his gun mode from the movie does he transform into it no he transforms into a tank but he comes in an accessory that is his gun mode that can be wielded by other figures with a 5 mm port in their hand like coronation starscream 86 Hot rod or any transformer with a 5 millimeter port can hold him is his tank mode accurate no his jet mode wouldn't have been accurate a turret wouldn't have been accurate in extremely hard to sell anyways cuz it's a gun plastered on a stand a lot of people just don't understand or not willing to accept the fact that giving Megatron a transformable gun mode is quite simply impossible anymore it's not even a dream has that project because the executives are just going to say no to that so the best compromise they can do with 86 megatron is just turn them into a tank give him his gun mode accessory that is literally his gun mode and me personally if he didn't have a gun mode accessory I would still mess with him as long as his robot mode was fairly accurate to the movie and had a really good head sculpt because earthrise Megatron had he really really terrible head sculpt I know a lot of people won't probably agree with me on that but I personally felt like the earthrise Megatron's head was no that is not the spirit of Megatron now a lot of people will try and argue the whole logistics of Megatron having a gun alt mode and no longer being said gun mode being a tank while Galvatron still has his Canon that he literally turns into in vaporizes starscream within the movie and a lot of people are going to be like oh why does Galvatron still have his Canon mode in Megatron does not have his gun mode again it's just easier to sell a cannon and then it is a gun The same argument could logically be made with a Canon versus a turret because a turret is literally just a gun with a stand slapped onto it a cannon is technically not that and turning Megatron into a turret is a much more harder feet to do than turning Megatron into a tank which Megatron's been a tank since G2 except for RID 2015 cuz he wasn't in there transformers prime transformers energon transformer Cybertron transformers animated transformers RiD 2001 transformers dark of the Moon transformers The last Knight transformers the 2007 movie and hell there are some parts of the IDW comic that Megatron isn't even a gun or tank which surprisingly has received no backlash to my knowledge and for all of those who are about to fact check me go look up every version of IDW Megatron he is predominantly a tank and there are some issues in the IDW comics that represent him as a gun but also a triple changer which transforms into a tank or he's a B-52 stealth bomber and to me personally I think Hasbro is taking the right move here with making 86 megatron of tank even though in the movie he is a gun, is it one hell of a cop out Yes do not get me wrong it is one hell of a cop out but there has been some cop outs with studio series before so this isn't uncommon and as you said in your video if they just give him a gun mode accessory that is his gun mode that other transformers can wield and a robot mode that resembles his 86 screen accurate self it'll be one of the best figures we will ever received in a long time except for the 86 Optimus prime.
I get WHY he won't be a gun, that's been obvious for decades. The problem though, is this is in the SS86 line, so by that it HAS to match the 86 animated movie. If they moved it into a different line, I'd say it would likely go better.

I just finished Transformers Devastation and Megatron is a tank in that and had a very good G1 aesthetic to it in that. Hope it turns out that well and I agree he should come with a gun accessory that starscream can use.

I just got back from my break from the Transformers franchise for alittle while by revisiting some of my childhood memories from DC like Batman Beyond and Justice League TAS/Unlimited while also watching alot of D23 videos and those angry Transformers fans are really making a big deal over 86' Megatron being a tank like always and not a gun already?? Heck, I've seen Megatron as a tank,dragon,jet,car,helicopter,truck and t-rex in Armada,RID 2001,Energon,Cybertron,Beast Wars,Animated,2007,ROTF, and AOE all the time as a Transformers fan that grew up with those Transfomers shows and movies alot more than G1 and that never bothered me tbh. Besides, sure Megatron was always a gun first, but honestly? I think Megatron should have a stationary canon/gun emplacement mode as compromise, at least it somehow closer to G1 since as Galvatron he was Gun emplacement. Going from mobile tank to stationary canon is downgrade not a improvement.

I personally feel that megatron being a gun in the first place was a kinda set back. He was mostly in robot mode anyway for most of g1. Not to say I hate it, but had he been a tank from the very beginning or just something with urgency, I feel like this wouldn’t be an issue. But then again this is an overblown issue in general from what I’m hearing

- No Hasbro exec wants to wake up and read the headline "Cop shoots child holding Transformers toy", and kids have already been shot by cops because they were holding Wii Remotes or phones or literally nothing. They're never going to take that risk.
- If they did, Megatron would have to be a technicolour, translucent mess of a figure in order to properly convey that he was in fact a transforming robot toy and not a real gun. This would destroy the accuracy of the figure anyway.
- Megatron turning into a gun was always really silly. Man is the Targetmaster for his least-trustworthy underling. It only happened because Hasbro decided that they could sell the Microchange figure for the same price as Optimus if they included the Man From UNCLE accessories. If not for that we probably would've got one of the other Diaclone figures as Megatron.
Bring on the Tank Megs, and may it be retooled into Cyberverse and IDW1 versions of the character in figure!
(Actually, MTMTE Megatron may be a decent model for how to make the tank disappear into the robot mode, since the treads hide really well in robot mode)

For as long as I was into Transformers, Megatron has almost always been a tank so this has never bothered me, though I have always felt the fact that Megatron needed to be wielded by a subordinate in gun mode was interesting. The gun accessory would be a good compromise in my opinion, especially since Hasbro has the mold for one from the Siege Centurion pack.
There IS a cut scene from the Heavy Metal War episode where Megatron was supposed to turn into a fighter jet when fighting Optimus as one of his borrowed powers, so perhaps that could be something added to the Concept Art Studio Series line?
While yes,Legal issues and all that,they should do something like they did with the core class figure in Kingdom, give him an acsessory of himself thats painted and give the stock barrel and scope and make him be 5mm compatible
As a gewunner I am annoyed at geewunners right now because of course there is no way they'd be able to make a gun Megatron that wouldn't look silly.
Also tanks are fun, a Megatron flightly bigger than Siege that hides the tank kibble better would also be a more straightforward transformation than going from Walther P38 to the animation model that looks way too different from the toy.
Since the original gun mode isn't possible, I think about what's the next best thing and the closest we can get to that iconic weapon from the show. To me, the gun turret would be the best compromise as it maintains the spirit of the original gun mode while staying true to the cartoon, where other Decepticons wielded him. The Helicopter and Jet modes aren't bad either, as they align with the Decepticons' flying motif. However, my concern is that they might be leaning more into the Devastation design rather than sticking to the original G1 bot mode. This could result in treads on the back instead of the clean look with the barrel that we're all used to.
I'm conflicted about it. On one hand, I understand the need for compromise, but I still believe they could have come closer to the original alt-mode with that turret. Especially after seeing all that art from Guido Guidi and Quillobyte, it feels like the designers took the easy way out with this one. Alternatively, I could see this as a dream HasLab project that caters exclusively to adult fans, but I’m not sure if they could navigate the legal details to make that happen. At this point, I can only hope for the best-and that the bot mode looks great.
The turret is basically the gun with a platform beneath it. So it could still be easily mistaken for a real gun if you held it by the bottom like the gun grip

I only got back into collecting Transformers at the start of the pandemic, and 4 years later, I'm beyond sick and tired of hearing people complain about this. Hasbro will NEVER produce another gun mode Megatron for retail in the US and no amount of complaining on Xwixxer, FB, TH-cam, etc. will ever change that fact.
I can understand why that upsets some people, but it's really time to move on.
Enough is enough with the idiotic "no realistic toy gun" law. This was never as big as a problem as they made it out to be. I personally had the original toy and miraculously managed to not get shot by police mistaking it for a real gun.
Right now, in stores all across America, there are airsoft / bb guns that are EXACT replicas of a multitude of modern popular handguns. Couldn't one of those just as easily be mistaken for a real gun?
It's past time to revisit that law. Have companies put a damn warning label on the box and an orange plug in the barrel (that we can remove) and give us G1 accurate Megatron! If it's not a Walther P38, don't make a "the movie" SS86 version.

Right now, all across America, a parent can just as easily buy thier kid a bb / pellet gun licensed to look exactly like a glock or walter ppq (ironic) as they could a Transformer or Nerf gun.

I have not grown on g1 but when i saw Megatron turning into a gun i found it cool but also odd cuz it didn't fit Megatron very well but i have search on Google if g1 Megatron was a tank and gess what he is tank he simply didn't show it besides if Galvatron is a reincarnated version of Megatron why Galvatron didn't turn in to a hand gun but he turn a Cybertronian plasma tank.

I didn’t ever expect him to turn into a gun though I think the core class megatron had a nice compromise of making his gun mode as an extra accessory / tank mode component.
I do not think that they should release a Megatron in Studio Series '86 if it will be a tank. It makes no sense for this to be the one that is not film accurate. I understand that it means no Megs due to weapon laws, but we already have so many tank Megs.

G1 Megatron is a great litmus test for those who cannot let go of their nostalgia, and are too drunk and addicted to it that they want reality to bend to appease them as much as possible, rather than growing up and looking at the world around them to understand the context of why things that were okay before aren't anymore, and how the reaches they make for the sake of the compromises just aren't worth it.

When I heard they were going to do SS 86 Megs, my first thought was them doing what the core class did with the gun accessory that other figures can hold as the mass shifted version of him, and I really hope that's what they decide to do again, it's the perfect compromise.
As long as they will make a brand new mold for Megatron, so that his robot mode is accurate, looks great, and is very articulated to fight Optimus, I'll be happy.

The best reason for an artillery Cannon turret (like rodimus prime's but single barrel one in his trailer) is that you can make it to where you take the base and pieces off and its a secret gun mode.
I would love to see the bot mode be like megatank. Where in robot mode he looks like his G1 counterpart. But in tank mode it'll look like megatank's.

I get people want the gun alt mode but it just ain’t gonna happen due to the restrictions of realistic guns as toys. besides, we’re long overdue for a new Megatron mold that isn’t earthrise… and as long as we get his gun mode as an accessory for other characters to use… i don’t mind whatever alt mode they decide to use.

To me, this is pretty much predictable, since we’ll never get a Megatron with a Gun Mode. Unless Takara make their own of the Megatron (Unfortunately it’s most likely gonna be exclusive to Japan, So good luck getting that version) And also, I don’t mind the Tank mode, but I kinda prefer a Jet Mode for Megs Like his Aligned/Prime counterpart. But I know that neither of them will be accurate to the movie.

Why are people angry? Havent gotten a gun megs in what, 20 years? Hasbro has said over and over in the past it will always be a tank from now on.
I think a ss86 tank is perfect as long as he has his gun form as an accessory. As long as the robot mode is amazing and the tank is decent, then the choice was perfect. People complaining about it being "not accurate" or "shouldn't be a ss86 figure" should just get over it and accept that it's not possible anymore. Especially since i can almost guarantee they'll have it in robot mode 90% of the time
I think that just due to the climate of guns in today's world, especially over here in the United States, on the the figure's key consumer markets, it would just be kind of disgusting to make him a gun. A tank would be small in comparison to a real one, meant for play, but that gun would life sized, and a little too close to comfort for some.
I dont understand why people have the sheer vitriol for the tank. Like for the jet, I mean I like flying Megatron, but that tank is also a lot more synonymous with Megatron at this point. And the standing cannon is going a little too close to Galvatron's alt mode.
⚠️Tanks are too common. Blitzwing, Warpath and Brawl are tanks. If Megatron isn’t allowed to become a gun, then he should become a modern day artillery cannon that you see in the army. It continues the trend when Galvatron transforms into a futuristic cannon. OR maybe Hasbro can do this. Copy what they did with Siege Shockwave. Make Megatron’s alt-mode into a “spaceship” but sneakily have a gun design by flipping the spaceship upside down and after making some minor adjustments, you have Megatron in gun mode. Maybe not an exact P-38 but a generic gun mode.
One is an autobot, one is a triple changer, and the other is a combiner limb Megatron is not going to be less special especially if he is bigger than the other tank bots

This is G1 toy fans imposing on cartoon fans. Cartoon fans are fine with an accessory sized alt mode.
In the cartoon he transforms into a gun that other transformers fire.....we could get a red figure and a accessory and call it good....i dont want that so a tank megs with an 86 accurate bot mode with a gun accessory would be pretty cool.
Im going to preface by saying that the tank mode should stay and be his 'definitive' alt mode.
But i still think it wouldve been nice for them to try some sort of compromise for the 86 figure specifically. It was never going to be 100% accurate, but SS has been like that from the beginning, so doing something that sort of resembles his gun mode but make it look obscure like Shockwaves submarine mode wouldve been nice. All this was bound to happen and im sure they knew what they were getting onto when they introduced the 86 film into SS
I have a solution.
Hasbro could partner with Takara for the G1 accurate figure to be manufactured in Japan and offered exclusively as a online order / mail away collecters item. They could do some sort of age verification or waiver or whatever they need and the price point would be slightly higher as an exclusive figure but cheaper than a masterpiece. They could do the orange plug (with shoddy glue) thing like with the masterpiece.

I just hope the tank mode is *good*. I know Concept Art Megatron never transformed into a tank, and got a stellar robot mode, but a lackluster tank and jet mode. I want the robot for 86 Megs to be good, but I don’t want them to skimp out on the tank mode. Hopefully it looks like a real/realistic earth tank, and not a Cybertronian one.
I kind of wish they'd bring back the helicopter form from animated. basically a flying tank.
It’s not so much about the tank being better but about regulations. It’s the same reason shockwave and 6 shot had their guns labelled as space ship and submarine.

Judging by SS86 Optimus Prime, I think they can pull off a near perfect looking Megatron robot mode and still give him a tank alt mode.
And while I wouldn't mind a concept art G1 Megatron with a jet alt mode, a tank works just fine since it's basically a large mobile gun.
Although, I would still like them to do an artillery gun alt mode at some point, too.

If no gun for SS86 Megatron than it shouldn't be a SS86 for Megatron. But if you only display figures in robot mode, R.E.D. is a good alternative.

Studio series is about accurate scale.
Firstly, they've done that in RED, it didn't sell well and RED got canned. Secondly, just keep him in his robot mode and have his gun mode as an accessory for others to hold to represent him, problem solved right? And thirdly, he's still a transformer at the end of the day, he HAS to transform into something (other than a gun for obvious reasons) and the tank mode is the only other alt mode that is more closely associated with Megs for the past 30 years.
They shouldn’t even make it then maybe release it under another format not SS, no rush……have a special 86 Takara exclusive in movie accurate gun mode. Why mess up the line . There are so many tanks

I mean who doesn’t want a meaty tank? I think it’s a lot more intimidating being chased by a cannon on treads than a floating pistol. I’ll never get him as I have my Megatron already, but one thing I know we all want from him is the gun as an accessory to compensate
floating pistol is scarier, it’s smaller and faster so it has better chances of catching up to you in small spaces

It still wouldn't be allowed and that would just put Hasbro in a compromised position for selling a toy with a hidden makeshift gun. At best, you'd see either a third party upgrade kit or a third/fourth party figure that keeps the same robot mode but changes the alt mode.

As someone who’s not really nostalgic for the gun mode, I always thought it was kinda dumb. I don’t buy that someone as self centred as megatron would allow other deceptions to “wield” him. Like, he berates starscream every five minutes, but lets him decide the outcome of a battle? That feels wrong to me
The issue is Megatron in the 86 movie transforms into a gun,so if you’re doing a faithful adaptation of G1 Megatron he should be true to his G1 form, so if Megatron can’t be true to his G1 self, Hasbro should’ve steered away from making this figure, but there is a solution, a third party company called new wave has made their version of SS86 Megatron in a voyager scale and yes he transforms into a walther p-38. He is up for preorder at show-z store right now, and no I’m not a sponsor.

I honestly don't know what people were expecting. Sure, it isn't accurate but even then, legal restrictions are something Hasbro can't just ignore, plus, he hasn't been a gun in forever.
Would it have been neat for them to finally have made him a gun again after so long? Sure, but would Hasbro be allowed to mass produce him without WAY more compromises? Unfortunately, no.

I think it is fine if Megatron is a tank and labeled as an ss86. It's the overall robot look that is important, not the gun mode.

Any car that isn't a GM marque, and any aircraft that isn't LockMart or Sikorsky is probably not accurately represented in Studio Series. The Mercedes alts for DotM Soundwave and TLK Drift made it through mostly unscathed but largely everything outside of the main collaborators gets nothing.
Hell, Hasbro _has_ a contract with Boeing, and use it for the MP Seekers, so they should've been able to make accurate F-4 and Harrier alts for Blitzwing and Shatter (since Boeing merged with McDonnell, who made the F-4 and the AV-8B), but they didn't. Shatter got a weird hybrid of the Harrier and the Yak-38, and Blitzwing got... a hideous first attempt at drawing a jet.

You set it best yourself and to be quite honest I wholeheartedly agree there's been transformers in the studio series lineup that we've had in the last 6 years of studio series that has had compromises because they either couldn't get their alt mode or the robot mode wasn't exactly right or screen accurate to the screen or there's been transformers with bad concept art that didn't really go well into the toy because the transformation compromises and the proportion compromises and the same thing all falls in here with 86 megs and personally I don't blame Hasbro for not wanting to push the boundaries of making a megatron transform into his Walter p38 from the show / movie Yes there are counter arguments can be made but again all counter arguments are just going to follow on deaf ears when Hasbro is not going to push the boundaries because of their stockholders and all of their executives because this is something that the marketing team themselves BMAC and Evan and Mark would I don't know Evan and Mark or not in marketing I know they're in designing but there's a head executives over the transformers department but they would have to go to the stockholders and their executives to get this to happen and if the executives in stockholders say no then they can't do it it's just at that point no and a lot of people just can't seem to take no for an answer so of course 86 Megatron is going to garnish some backlash just the fact that oh no he couldn't turn into a gun well the easiest trip to that is as you said yourself just give him a gun mode accessory that is literally him and his gun mode from the movie does he transform into it no he transforms into a tank but he comes in an accessory that is his gun mode that can be wielded by other figures with a 5 mm port in their hand like coronation starscream 86 Hot rod or any transformer with a 5 millimeter port can hold him is his tank mode accurate no his jet mode wouldn't have been accurate a turret wouldn't have been accurate in extremely hard to sell anyways cuz it's a gun plastered on a stand a lot of people just don't understand or not willing to accept the fact that giving Megatron a transformable gun mode is quite simply impossible anymore it's not even a dream has that project because the executives are just going to say no to that so the best compromise they can do with 86 megatron is just turn them into a tank give him his gun mode accessory that is literally his gun mode and me personally if he didn't have a gun mode accessory I would still mess with him as long as his robot mode was fairly accurate to the movie and had a really good head sculpt because earthrise Megatron had he really really terrible head sculpt I know a lot of people won't probably agree with me on that but I personally felt like the earthrise Megatron's head was no that is not the spirit of Megatron now a lot of people will try and argue the whole logistics of Megatron having a gun alt mode and no longer being said gun mode being a tank while Galvatron still has his Canon that he literally turns into in vaporizes starscream within the movie and a lot of people are going to be like oh why does Galvatron still have his Canon mode in Megatron does not have his gun mode again it's just easier to sell a cannon and then it is a gun The same argument could logically be made with a Canon versus a turret because a turret is literally just a gun with a stand slapped onto it a cannon is technically not that and turning Megatron into a turret is a much more harder feet to do than turning Megatron into a tank which Megatron's been a tank since G2 except for RID 2015 cuz he wasn't in there transformers prime transformers energon transformer Cybertron transformers animated transformers RiD 2001 transformers dark of the Moon transformers The last Knight transformers the 2007 movie and hell there are some parts of the IDW comic that Megatron isn't even a gun or tank which surprisingly has received no backlash to my knowledge and for all of those who are about to fact check me go look up every version of IDW Megatron he is predominantly a tank and there are some issues in the IDW comics that represent him as a gun but also a triple changer which transforms into a tank or he's a B-52 stealth bomber and to me personally I think Hasbro is taking the right move here with making 86 megatron of tank even though in the movie he is a gun, is it one hell of a cop out Yes do not get me wrong it is one hell of a cop out but there has been some cop outs with studio series before so this isn't uncommon and as you said in your video if they just give him a gun mode accessory that is his gun mode that other transformers can wield and a robot mode that resembles his 86 screen accurate self it'll be one of the best figures we will ever received in a long time except for the 86 Optimus prime.
I get WHY he won't be a gun, that's been obvious for decades. The problem though, is this is in the SS86 line, so by that it HAS to match the 86 animated movie. If they moved it into a different line, I'd say it would likely go better.

Times change. I was fortunate to have had and enjoyed G1 Megs as a kid, and a new toy with modern engineering would be cool and fun, but it’s not possible, not feasible, and not gonna happen.

I just finished Transformers Devastation and Megatron is a tank in that and had a very good G1 aesthetic to it in that. Hope it turns out that well and I agree he should come with a gun accessory that starscream can use.

I just got back from my break from the Transformers franchise for alittle while by revisiting some of my childhood memories from DC like Batman Beyond and Justice League TAS/Unlimited while also watching alot of D23 videos and those angry Transformers fans are really making a big deal over 86' Megatron being a tank like always and not a gun already??
Heck, I've seen Megatron as a tank,dragon,jet,car,helicopter,truck and t-rex in Armada,RID 2001,Energon,Cybertron,Beast Wars,Animated,2007,ROTF, and AOE all the time as a Transformers fan that grew up with those Transfomers shows and movies alot more than G1 and that never bothered me tbh.
Besides, sure Megatron was always a gun first, but honestly? I always thought his gun mode's so overrated :/
