Peter Green should get the recognition that Clapton, Page, and Beck get. I saw Peter Green's FM several times back in the sixties and they were the quintessential British Blues band. Still think Jeremy Spence, Danny Kirwin need to be recognized for their greatness.
Your a lucky bloke to see them in the 60`s , i would have been 10 in 1967 nov , i took my son 30th may 2010 he was about 15 to see peter green & friends at a converted barn called the Cheese & Grain ,Frome,Somerset england (about 50 mile journey from where i live) (their`s footage of some of the gig on youtube) , when i`d parked the car at the site who should walk past but peter green with 1 of the young musicians , unfortunately i bottled out of asking for his autograph or just to speak with him.
Peter Green and Rory Gallagher, there are others but these two are so often described as "not getting the recognition"; when this is raised with other musicians however the fairly common response is "maybe in the public but not among musicians".
I love that Mick is still so proud of his friendship with Peter Green and the extraordinary soul-stirring work that He, Peter, John, Jeremy and Danny crafted as young men. I'm so happy he made this concert happen, Peter Green and his music needs to be celebrated.
Went to a number of Fleetwood Mac concerts in San Francisco in the 60’s, and was fortunate enough to sit in the front row of most of them. Experienced every talented group under the sun in those halcyon days, and Peter Green will always stand out for the haunting spell he cast on everyone in attendance….that incomparable, soulful voice, along with his genius on the guitar.
Saw Peter Green with the splinter group in San Francisco, once at the winter Land and once at Bimbo's. Carlos and members of John Lee hooker's family were at the Bimbo's venue. Great show, Peter was smiling all through out the show.
Peter Green , the best guitar player of the World, fantastic composer, singer, the King of blues, I love the original Fleetwood Mac, god bless you Mick ❤️
So great to see Mick as a senior English gentleman paying tribute to all those in his past. Love the painting in the background that was the Then Play On cover. Too cool
Peter Green was not only a fabulous musician but a great man with a big heart. For the people that we're touched by his humanity and lack of ego were happy to be part of the tribute concert and it does not surprise me that so many of his peers would show up to pay tribute to him as a man and as a musician I've been following early Fleetwood Mac since I was 13 and as Mick Fleetwood says that was 50 years ago, it's been a great ride and I continue to obsess over the music and guitar playing of what I believe to be the greatest white blues guitarist. Respects to all including Mick Fleetwood, Jeremy Spencer and Christine McVie (I am saddened that John McVie a friend and Band member of 55 years did not make the effort to be part of the tribute) for their efforts to show the impact that Peter Green made not only on the music end but in life in general. Peter always and continues to have a major impact on his fans who have never forgotteñ the kind leader of the original Fleetwood Mac. In the mid 60's Fleetwood Mac impacted the music that consumed Britain and consumed an era of american blues opening our eyes to the musicians that created the blues and opening the door for younger talent to add to the story of the blues and showcasing the talents of many musicians that dedicated their playing to continue the history of the blues. Thanks to all those famous and unknown for their crusade at keeping the blues alive.
To me, there has only ever been one Fleetwood Mac and that was the original one, begun by the wonderful Peter Green. I saw Peter play a few years ago and was so emotional I wept. Really wish I could have seen him play with Fleetwood Mac. One of the guitar greats.
Absolutely. I don’t have any albums after Kiln House, but I have every single one before. Live At The Boston Tea Party is one of the best live records ever.
He was a shadow of his former self in the later years sad to see , like BB King in his final year, he was playing so far below his early output it was quite embarrassing .
I agree. I’ve never been interested in the band since Peter left. I saw him twice in The Splinter Group but as has been said he was just a shadow of his former self. We shouldn’t forget Danny Kirwen or Jeremy Spencer who added so much to the sound.
I know it’s rare that’s mick fleetwood will ever see my comment.I’m a huge fan of Fleetwood Mac.I love that you have the “then play on” art behind you!!!.
Love love love the early Fleetwood Mac. Grew up on the Rumours-era band onward but I went back and started at the beginnings of the band and they are excellent!
Peter Green really was someone and something rather special back in the day. I never bonded with the later incarnation of Fleetwood Mac. The music never spoke to me in the same way and there were too many heavily medicated egos flying around during that period, for my liking. I was always surprised that they chose to continue under the same name. Any legacy was very difficult to discern. A lot of fans, I'm sure, are quite unaware of the original incarnation.
You can feel the love and friendship that must have been very strong and I can understand how hard for Mick to deal with the impotence of the situation, still, he must have had some great personal memories and musical moments with Peter and he surely treasures them.
I went to see Fleetwood Mac play maybe half a dozen times, and they never disappointed... First time would have been at the sundown in mile end, east London, about 1973 I would think.... Didn't realize just how privelaged I was to have seen them at that time of their career... And the following concerts would have been at Wembley and possibly the rainbow 🌈 etc... At the age of 21 I went to America...never having been abroad before,it was life changing.. While in new York I bought a copy of rumours, which I still have... Now my daughter plays the album to my granddaughter on the school run etc.. Music is a positive influence on us all. Congratulations to the band, past and present members alike
Peter Green - The Best british Guitarist ever and a true Bluesmaster. This humble man is nothing less than the Blues-Guitar Olymp. Peter is in the Pantheon with other giants like Buddy Guy, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, Albert & Freddie King, Muddy Waters. So sad that the Blues and the entire music lost this genius after a fatal LSD trip in early 1970. After that he was never be the same again.
Saw one of the first shows at the Saville Theatre in 67, along with Mayall, Chicken Shack ( with Christine McVie ) and Aynsley Dunbar, it was a great show with Mick Taylor and Peter on the same bill !
I grew up in the days when rumoers was the album and stevie, Christe, mick fleet wood, and were then Fleetwood mac +lindesy Then. when i seen a video of peter green in the band before lindsey and stevie playing the guitar and the songs he wrote absolutely fasinated me he was a man of genius and my favourite Albertrass ;O Well; Man Of The World; Need Your Love and other songs that are where and will be songs not forgotten and to me brilliant👍Rest in peace Peter.🙏🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🌹🕊🦋.AMEN🙏🎸🌹🕊🦋
I loved Peter Green's slower songs. I Need Your Love So Bad and A Fool No More, to me, is the apitome of Peter Green. Those two songs take me to a place like no other songs I know of to date......... and that's a mouthfull for a 67 year-old who listens to a lot of music across various genres. A sad story for sure, but I am grateful for the music Peter Green left us and for kicking off, arguably, the greatest band in R&R history. May PG RIP, a soul so kind it really wasn't meant to live in the world we live in........... IMHO. Be kind to people.
Hi Katie, another great show. I've been a long time Fleetwood Mac fan so many thanks for keeping Mick talking. With all the different guests you interview you must have some great stories to tell. Keep up the good work.
I did a hit of acid and Fleetwood Mac was playing on an old 1960's album. I thought they were around in the 70's. I didn't know they had been around that long. And, then came Stevie Nicks. And Lindsay Buckingham.

It also has a swell cover, that’s described as follows in the LP’s Wikipedia entry: The painting used for the cover of the album is “Domesticated Mural Painting”, by the English artist Maxwell Armfield.[6] It was featured in the February 1917 edition of The Countryside magazine, which states that the mural was originally designed for the dining room of a London mansion".
Mick...you are one of the BEST DRUMMERS I've ever heard...saw your performance in Tacoma...could've stood up and danced around the fire 🔥 all night long...Thank You
I listen to the “Rumours” version of Mac about once every two years. That’s plenty. I listen to the Peter Green version every month multipe times. The first is smart pop whereas the second transcends the genre and is truly magical. Thank you Peter, Danny and Mick. Mac’s Black Magic Woman is so much better than Santana’s.Better guitar, infinitely better singing, better percussion. It is one of the best blues songs ever recorded.
Brother, the first guitar solo in FM's Black Magic Woman has been my phone's ringtone since the first time I listened to it. For me it's on my top five guitar solos, and Peter's voice is immortal.
You need to realize the similarities of Peter Greene and Syd Barrett ! Both of them suffered for the music and launched their vision of the true music felt in their heart, it's incredibly unknown how much influence that they had over modern music !
I had Fleetwood Macs Complete Blue Horizon Box Set a number of years back. It had their studio pieces , plus the 5th disc had out takes if I remember correctly. The 5th had Peter playing the blues , and I would listen to that more than anything . So impressive. I bought it back then for $19.99 , and now to replace it cost anywhere from $50 used, to over $100 BNIB . I would like to add that that Box Set is why I became a huge fan of Mick Fleetwod as a drummer. What makes some of Fleetwood Mac's so memorable ? Think of it , it's Mick's beats , along with those bass lines. One comes to mind and it's from Tusk . See , you've already thought of it.
Well Mick, i'm sure you know that there a lot of, strike that- an Army of Musicians, out here who continue to gain inspiration and happiness from in particular, Peter Green, but also the whole history of Fleetwood Mac. And i understand how you stand, thank you very much for the combination of roles that you have played along with all the other players in Fleetwood Mac. Immediately Christine's recent death comes to mind, despite the fact that she had not passed at the time of this video. BTW, my favorite perter green songs: Oh Well, pts 1&2; The Green Manalishi, Albatross, Rattle Snake Shake, Black Magic Woman. i listened to FM Live from the record plant, 1974 this morniing. this version of Christine's song, "Why" is wonderful, along with other great players and i appreciate you including the playing of a lead guitar player who will not be named. But that can sometimes be the way of the passing of history.
A couple things: - The painting on the wall is the cover of the 'Then Play On' album Mr. Fleetwood mentions. - Though he and John McVie were together with Green in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Mick did not play on 'The Supernatural'. That is on the 'Hard Road' album, which was recorded prior to Fleetwood joining and had Aynsley Dunbar (Jeff Beck, Frank Zappa, David Bowie, Journey, Starship, Whitesnake...) drumming. I realise he didn't get specific so as to keep the story line simple, but for those interested in the facts, that is what happened. Mick would use the same type of drumming on early Fleetwood Mac's biggest 'Albatross' as Dunbar did on 'The Supernatural' - tympani mallets on toms. - To put Green in context for those unfamiliar, when Eric Clapton left John Mayall to form Cream, Peter Green took his place in the Bluesbreakers (Green had filled in for several gigs the previous year). When Green quit to form Fleetwood Mac, a teenaged Mick Taylor was enlisted, doing three studio albums prior to Mayall dissolving his electric band and recommending Taylor to Mick Jagger as the one to fill Brian Jones vacated spot in the Stones. - Prior to the Bluesbreakers Green and Fleetwood were together in Peter Bardens' band Peter B's Looners, which also included bassist Dave Ambrose (Jeff Beck, Julie Driscoll/Brian Auger & the Trinity) and keyboardist Bardens (Them, Camel, Van Morrison). - Listen to Fleetwood Mac's 'Black Magic Woman', then listen to Peter B's Looners version of 'Soul Dressing'. They are like the raw beginnings of Santana's version of 'Black Magic Woman', though Santana already had the latin thing happening and likely never hears the Looners' version of 'Soul Dressing' (though possibly heard Booker T. & the MG's version). - Green is considered by those in the know as Britain's greatest blues guitarist. And like Carlos Santana, he was greatly influenced by BB King. Though they both styled their playing after King's, early Carlos was also audibly influenced by Green. Listen to Green on 'The Supernatural' and you might think you are listening to Santana. - It is nice that Mick mentions Christine McVie. Though most fans of the Mac know her only from that band (she had helped out on early band recordings including doing the cover art for their 'Kiln House' album before joining for 'Bare Trees'), she was a star in the UK thanks to success with blues band Chicken Shack, with whom she had a hit with the Etta James classic 'I'd Rather Go Blind', a tune she also included on her debut solo album way back then. Her recent passing from this life was such a shock. She was the band's not-so-secret weapon...a real gem who was loved and is missed by so many, including Mr. Fleetwood.
He had no ego! LOL possibly the most egoless musician ever. So many great songs post FM. So many So many. In the sky's. Kolors. Little Dreamers. RIP Danny Kirwan.
Future games and bare trees albums are completely forgotten, 1971-1972 both released, Danny kirwan, again completely forgotten, he was the main man during that era..... Listen to sands of time and Dust, sometimes, and bare trees, excellent tracks....
When I saw Fleetwood Mac the first time, it was àt a Warehouse, I was blown away by the fu*ckin Drummer, and the Bass player, they were Together, I saw them Later and they were together, they were good when they picked up on Peter's sôñg s, jùs såyîn, well anyway I guess I'm saying that Mick and John are always Phenomenal, jùs sàyin ¡♥️😎♥️¡
Fleetwwod Mac with Peter Green the best blues band ever exist. I have a suggestion for Mick Fleetwood to make a reunion with Jeremy Spencer, John Mc Vie and Rick Vito and make another celebration of Peter Green. The fans would like to be happy again. Of coursemany other good singers are welcome.
Talk is cheap. Mick is a millionaire and snorted millions up his nose while Peter struggled for years. Danny spent years destitute, Ill l, and homeless. He died homeless. Your thanks is decades late. What a friend.
How about putting Peter's son Liam Firlej on the show, so he can discuss the infamous Munich Acid Trip with Mick Fleetwood? You would blow the roof off the World of Rock. Liam has some very good questions to ask Mick and John. Is Mick the Green Manaleshi?
@@donfisher7432 Yes. Was Mick the personification? He and Peter had major disagreements about Peter wanting to donate their vast earnings. So Peter quit the band.
15:06 for whoever wants to make a funny Mick Fleetwood silent reaction GIF (when the host suggests Fleetwood Mac's later output appears on a "Top 10 Break-Up Songs of the 80s" playlist.)
Peter Green was Grreat! Sorry to hear about your Restaurant in Hawaii! Sad that Oprah, and the Rock just didn't make an offer to buy it. They could afford it!
I remember Sue Marchant mentioned only a few years back that Peter Green did a gig at The Secret Garden venue in Cambs. He was spotted in Norwich a few years ago as he lived near to Great Yarmouth in his latter years .. I always play Man Of The World and Green Manalishi. I like this English attitude and roots, much better before they became Americanised imo
Peter Green was great, only 2nd to Jimi Hendrix. I saw Peter Greens Fleetwood Mac in Stockholm May 1968.Lost my focus on the Macs after Peter Green, Danny Kirwin and Jeremy Spencer had left. They were still a great band... Mick Fleetwood I liked already when he was in John Mayalls band.
Any of the Peter Green Tribute Concert profits go to charity? I haven't heard. Now that would be a real tribute to Peter Green. Give all the money to the needy. It's why he left the band and the music industry. "Green Manaleshi" says it all.
Peter Green should get the recognition that Clapton, Page, and Beck get. I saw Peter Green's FM several times back in the sixties and they were the quintessential British Blues band. Still think Jeremy Spence, Danny Kirwin need to be recognized for their greatness.

I would have given my right arm to have seen Peter with Mac. How lucky you were. Hope you appreciated it fully at the time. :)
I watched this and was hoping Jeremy and Danny would be mentioned because they're very sadly overlooked.
Peter Green and Rory Gallagher, there are others but these two are so often described as "not getting the recognition"; when this is raised with other musicians however the fairly common response is "maybe in the public but not among musicians".
I think jeff healey should get that also.
The original Fleetwood Mac's music is like stumbling into a hidden treasure vault! 👑💎
Too true. Peter Green was GOLD!
Absolutely 🎸
Oh well said...unexpected and in retrospect shows the ingenuity of the original player particularly Mick and McVie.
very true. its crazy how they went to blues-rock to pop like music in the nicks and buckingham era
@@frankgeeslin5483 All 5 were very good.
Peter Green was a talent beyond ALL the others. Listen to him - and you cannot argue with that. A beautiful soul. Beautiful music. Beautiful artist.

Hats off to Mick for doing that great night for Peter
Fleetwood s a great guy, many people don’t pay their respects to their roots. Especially to green
Totally agree. As a huge Greeny fan you’ve got to respect Micks devotion and love for his old friend.
Nice to see the picture from the Then Play On LP behind him.
So great to see Mick as a senior English gentleman paying tribute to all those in his past. Love the painting in the background that was the Then Play On cover. Too cool
I love how Peter named it Fleetwood Mac, because "Guitarists always leave thier band" and he wanted Mick and John to be able to continue w the name.
Mick Fleetwood keeping the memory of Peter Green alive with love

Love you Mick , Peter is so proud of you. Your first class Mick. 🙏😊❤️
Mick F does a good thing by remembering his old friend… and by lauding PG’s genius.
and doesn’t say a single thing about Danny Kirwan.
Santana modeled his entire guitar tone after Peter’s and people don’t seem to realize that either.
That explains why im really into santana atm, greens in the skies and santanas first album is a daily ritual for me atm
Santana also has a lot of MIKE BLOOMFIELD in his playing.

Prior to Fleetwood Mac Peter Green performed on one of the greatest British blues albums, John Mayall's Hard Road
A couple things:
- The painting on the wall is the cover of the 'Then Play On' album Mr.
The voice is unique the energy too
Thanks Mick!
Amen Corner ...should be remembered ...think I spelt his name right, he was a massive input to the Blues London scene .....
I think you mean Alexis Korner.
@@linara21 Hi, yes, later I realised ..cheers.
Time stands still for Mick judging by the clock behind him...
I have no use for any iteration of FM without Peter Green, Danny Kirwin or Jeremy Spencer in the lineup.
Then play on painting behind Mick.
the picture on the all behind mick ...i believe is from there albim ..then play on...very similiar
PG loved fishing and fish. I think this really helped his head and bought him out of his funk and allowed him to Play On. He beat his demons.
How about putting Peter's son Liam Firlej on the show, so he can discuss the infamous Munich Acid Trip with Mick Fleetwood? You would blow the roof off the World of Rock. Liam has some very good questions to ask Mick and John. Is Mick the Green Manaleshi?
Money
@@donfisher7432 Yes. Was Mick the personification? He and Peter had major disagreements about Peter wanting to donate their vast earnings. So Peter quit the band.
The greatest English guitar player of all time ... comparing Green with others seems absurd even.
15:06 for whoever wants to make a funny Mick Fleetwood silent reaction GIF (when the host suggests Fleetwood Mac's later output appears on a "Top 10 Break-Up Songs of the 80s" playlist.)
There are two Fleetwood mac`s. Peter Greens Fleetwood Mac was first, Disco Mac came later.
Yes I agree early FM was way better than the disco thumping version.
ty katie
Fleetwod Mac was only the one with Peter Greenbaum !
Green was the best in the late 60s, and most people knew it. His demise as an artist remains a significant loss to music lovers.
How come we never hear much about the album kiln house. My favorite record of all time. I know peter wasn't involved in that one.
Santana never played Margate, but I think he understands the U.K!
Green was better than Hendrix.
Peter was also a great blues singer.
Black Magic Woman was influenced a lot by Otis Rush, the CHicago blues guitarist, that probably hardly anyone will give credit to
like to have the picture behind Mick
supergroup idea....mick...pete townsend...pino palladino....richard thompson...name? six foot
I would say he does
Any of the Peter Green Tribute Concert profits go to charity? I haven't heard. Now that would be a real tribute to Peter Green. Give all the money to the needy. It's why he left the band and the music industry. "Green Manaleshi" says it all.
It's all going to the Teenage Cancer Fund.
@@bjr4567 Thank you. I did find brief mention of that. I think it's a Roger Daltry/Pete Townsend initiative from what I understand.
