I was trying to figure out where to put my potatoes. Your videos inspiration I'm going to put it next to my polytunnel thank you and I appreciate your videos😎 Denver Colorado.
Hehe I am the same as you , I hate wasting my seedlings , potatoes whatever , I was doing the same with more onions yesterday popping them in wherever there’s a space 😂. I planted Pink Fur Apple Pots. A new potato and Maris Piper.
Hi Erica potatoes mostly grow anywhere and they say the best way to clear a patch and feed it is to plant potatoes. I grow rocket every year we used to grow swift but tried rocket and loved them so for a few years now we have grown rocket so why change if you love them. Second earlies we always grow Charlotte because they such a good salad potato to follow the earlies and some grow big aswell and they keep well into winter aswell. You can also roast they but they waxy so you can’t mash them. We usually buy sacks of maincrop direct from farmer but they went up so much in price this last year my husband said let’s grow maincrop this year and so for first time we are growing Picasso. These are what we buy in sacks and are the best maincrop spud we have ever eaten they mash roast chip and bake a fantastic all rounder. So we hope to get a crop of some kind. It will save a bit on money if not all. Gotta watch our pennies and we do try to be self sufficient in our fruit and veg. HVnt quite made it yet but hope to get a bit nearer this year.👍🙋🏻
Last year for the first time I grew potatoes in empty feed bags. Got enough to last from June to December. Maybe a little less than in the raised beds. But such a space saver! Trying it again and I’ve been planting every couple of weeks since St Patrick’s Day until the end of May. So curious to see how the harvest looks. Love your videos!
I had planted Yukon Gold potatoes for the first time this year and can’t believe how much they have grown. Once again another awesome video keep up the fantastic work!!
I only put my maincrops in ten days ago so later than most years and they are already pushing through the 10ish inches of soil so they are catching up well. Hopefully we don't get another seemingly endless heatwave again this year because mine definitely suffered last year.
I hope the potatoes go well for you, I've seen some amazing harvests on Instagram from Swift already, can't wait to see how yours get on! I have a few spuds left over, like that they are growing potatoes on potatoes 😅, i might get them in to the ground 🥔 🌱 Laura 🌱🙃
You have same soil as us - clay !!! I am Carmarthenshire. All my growing is in raised beds. Don’t think the potatoes in clay will do very well. I tried a few years ago. Things just rotted as got water logged
@@ericaslittlewelshgarden yea good idea! Another question don't you have to put the potatoes In the ground is it enough if you put the on top and they will grow?
I'm glad to see that you're planting some potatoes now because I had some left that I hadn't had room for when I planted the rest and have been wondering if I can still plant them. A couple of them have gone really spongey though, will they still be ok?
hopefully planting your spuds in clay soil will help it ,ive got clay here too i guess its why it used to be full of pottery factory lol but ive gone all out this year after hearing there could be a spud shortage and i started on st paddys day with sharpes express ,also got charlotte salad, Maris peer and Maris piper, kestrel which look really cool, deseree the lovely red ones ,and ive saved more of those to plant up in pots in a few weeks to hopefully keep in one of my pols to get xmas spuds, oh looking back at my planting diary i did some Pentland javelin as well, most of mine tho are in bit pots cos ive only got a small kitchen garden but in the clay soil in the borders i tried some to break up the soil, and for a few des im going to build a tatter tower using some wire fencing and straw to save on space it looks real cool ,maybe thats an idea for your spare spuds?
@@ericaslittlewelshgarden The thing with planting earlies a bit late, is you will have "new potatoes" when everyone else is eating maincrops - clever!!
I’m doing all my spuds in containers this year, first time I’ve done it so hope they do well🤞
Good luck with them 👍
I'm sill they'll do fine. 😊
I think the weather has thrown us all out in our planting this year.
Weirdest year with the weather.

I tried yukon gold once and they were a bit rubbish as we had a wet summer that year.

Raised beds is a good idea.
I'm curious to see how it goes out and how they growing. you make a video preparing the bed in the last autumn? 👏🏻
I didn't make a video showing how I did it but if you want to see it I can make one as I did film it.

How many greenhouses do you have?
We had volunteer potatoes come up this year.
One greenhouse, one polytunnel.
