- The San Francisco Giants announced Tuesday that baseball icon Willie Mays has died at the age of 93. Mays played with the Giants from 1951 to 1972. Mays won the World Series with the Giants in 1954 and was a 24-time All-Star during his career, tied with Stan Musial for second-most behind Hank Aaron’s 25. He was voted NL MVP in 1954 and 1965. Mays was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1979. His 660 career home runs are sixth-most all-time. The World Series MVP award was also named in his honor in 2017.

Sorry to see this. At 93 he lived a long, and great life as a sports icon.
I had the privilege of meeting Willy, briefly, in 1978 when working on a local golf course as a groundsman. He was playing golf and had an entourage with him. He had his own custom golf balls that had his name inscribed, and "Say Hey" on the other side. I found one in the rough, but gave it to a fan of his.
He came off as a gentleman to me. He was very nice. Big man. But seemed even bigger at heart.
God bless him. May he rest in peace.
🙏✝️❤️
Here is a great Willie Mays golf story. When he first started playing golf, he was at Harding Park in the city. He skulled his drive direct right and it bounce off a tree trunk right back at him. In the same motion he reached out grabbed the ball out of the air, re-teed it up and hit another drive....Just like he planned....
R.I.P. Sir!
One of my childhood heroes
Willie Mays was one of the "All-Time" Sports and MLB Greats! and, 6th on the "List of Greatest Home Run Kings"! with 660; a Legend on and off the Field!
I have lived in Los Angeles all my life. Of course I was a Dodger fan, but I saw Willie Mays play at Dodger Stadium with my dad when I was about 12. He was a part of my youth. I respected his accomplishments and his life of talent and dignity in spite of a racist America. At 73 years old I am deeply sorrowed at his passing. Goodbye and prayers for the "Say Hey Kid" ~ a true "Giant" of a man.
RIP Willie "Say Hey Kid" Mays. ⚾⚾⚾⚾⚾⚾⚾⚾⚾⚾

I grew up a Dodger fan hard core in 62 The Giants beat the Dodgers to go to the world series against the Yankees since then to me Willie Mays was the man I both hated and love him. RIP Willie... The basket catch and your great all around ness

Probably THE second greatest player of baseball all time. Babe Ruth tops the list, but Mays is next. I have had a disagreement with some who would switch that order but the stats changed their mind. And, Mays had all the tools one could ever want in a player. He could hit for average and power, had lots of speed, agood glove, and a great arm. Also, from what I have heard and read, Mays was a gentleman. RIP Willie!

The Lord has the greatest base ball player ever. God Bless
A GREAT BALL PLAYER. He hated the fans but, that was his choice.
Just what the hell do you mean that he hated his fans? Willie was always kind and courteous to people and particularly his fans. The man just died, don't start making up lies and rumors about him!
@@blackmamba5034 He almost knocked over a kid trying to avoid an autograph. I saw him play many times at the stick and if he wasn't paid for an autograph, you didn't get it. This is contrast to Willie McCovey who would stay long after games to sign.
@@aaronn3487 I've got your boy, QUEENIE. I know what I saw when I went to the stick. EDUCATE yourself BEFORE posting.
Fitting to go out in 24 rip you legend
A lot of people died or die at that age what’s the big deal we are not going to live forever where is all the fuss for others that have died at that age or even the babies murdered by those abortion doctors
