That's a really good idea, I hadn't considered that. Thanks for sharing. I've been debating whether to get an RK-002 for a while now for my volca sample and I think this is what is going to persuade me.
Cool stuff. I played on the Sega Master System 2 when i was a kid. But my friends had the first Mega Drive, so i know that too. My tips are, Streets Of Rage 4 is on Steam since 2020, there is an R-Type remaster inside the Sega Mega Drive Collection on Steam, where you can choose the classic graphics also, and Alex Kidd In Miracle World gets a remake this month the 24th, with retro graphics mode too. Peace...
Just got mine. All working 'fine'. Must admit documentation seems in bit out of date. Docs say genMDM has a poly mode switchable on CC84. Not CC 84 and new firmware 103 makes no mention of a poly mode. Anyone point me in the right direction with this?
Ok, so I've had my GenMDM for a while now, and I bought a earlier model Genesis because I was told they had better sound. But on both, I get single channels clipping EXTREMELY easily. On every single patch or .tfi file, the sound clips at high velocities. Makes it impossible to hand play without some sort of distortion.
@@Cepheid-IDM struggling to actually get it to work as I am trying to use it alongside FMdrive. Aly James, the creator of the VST has been very helpful so far though. Fingers crossed I will be up and running soon!
myths - any idea how on Cubase 5 you can make a MIDI track output on 2 different outputs? or a way of mirroring all tracks and all outputs to one extra output? I'm struggling!
I'm not sure I understand, what is it you are trying to do? I might not know the answer as it doesn't sound like something I have done but I will try to help.
Bought one a year ago. I really need help to set it up. Some of the channels are working, some are not. How do you even get the drum sounds? Please someone.. I bought a second genesis to make it work...
You need something that can send MIDI CC. I think some keyboards can do this without a PC. Look Mum No Computer has managed to create a dedicated synth without a PC, there might be something that can help you on his project page. www.lookmumnocomputer.com/projects#/sega-megadrive-synth
I've not used GenMDM with a tracker and it would be interesting to try it. I use LSDJ for my main set-up, but I personally find actually composing something in cubase is quicker as it is how I produce tracks and I'm able to use a midi keyboard. So this suits me, but others may prefer a tracker to midi control it.
That little tune you put together at the end would have worked really well in Streets of Rage, as well. 🙊
This is exactly what I was looking for, thanks. Will be ordering one from their website.
Nice video man, I've got a genMDM too. Going to try to use the RK-002 cable today to play it polyphonically.

Upvoted for Rufus. And the content. But mostly Rufus.
I'm hoping to get Rufus a white coat and glasses to take over presenting duties in future.

What is that small key board called
It's an Arturia Microbrute being used as a MIDI controller.

God Damn! I gotta get one of these! gotta write some Streets of Rage kinda Music! ;)
RUFUSSSSS
Received my GenMDM today and picked up a mega drive from Lincoln Cash Converters at the weekend too. Well looking forward to sinking my teeth into it.

how to send the audio of the megadrive directly to a microbrute or another synth?

Anyone have any experience using this with FL Studio?

Midi standard for drums is channel 10. Can't help out more than that :/
Is there a way to hook up your mega drive to a keyboard/synth without going through a computer to play live?

You don't need a TV screen, right...you send all the commands via Midi CC?
That's right, all done via CC and no TV needed.
Where can we listen to your remix?
It's at mythsandmonsters.bandcamp.com
How do you find composing in this sequencer fashion compared to using a chiptune tracker?
