I'm pretty sure it was Silver

Yeah they did, and Alpha played Sonic Forces, but I genuinely don't know if that's the joke or not
Yeah the 3/5 thing was totally a compromise:
Slaveowners wanted slaves to count as 1 person when it comes to voting while the people against slavery wanted them to count as 0 when it comes to voting, because only landowners (including most slaveowners) had the right to vote and if slaves counted for voting then slaveowners could pass whatever pro-slavery law they wanted.
Wasn't it because an increased counted population meant more power in the House of Representatives?
@@ProbablyNotOnFire Yeah, and more say in who becomes president. If slaves were counted as 1 full person, many of the anti-slavery laws would have not been passed and the biggest anti-slavery presidents probably would not have been elected.
Don't make any mistake, though, the slaves got *zero* votes. The 3/5ths compromise just gave their owners more representation in the House.
ok boomer
Notable footnote: part of the compromise was that the 3/5-slave-population statistic was also used to determine the taxes that states owed the federal government.
Another relevant compromise: the government couldn't ban (but could tax) the importing of slaves from Africa until 1807. Pretty much the day they were allowed to, congress did ban importing slaves.
There's zero reason the gameplay should be interesting, and yet somehow it is

Cooper it wasn’t that off
@@derpycats8072 it was pretty damn off. He completely misunderstood what the 3/5ths compromise was. He, and many people in all honesty, misunderstood what the driving forces of the American Revolution were (the fact that they taxed us was at best a small part of it). They don't seem to think that the revolutionaries didn't try to negotiate with Britain. The rest is a little off, but it'd be kinda redundant and pointless to just keep pointing out shit.

Alpha “completely glossing over the Boston massacre” Rad
That thing were colonists were surrounding soldiers protecting a building and chucking rocks and snowballs at the soldiers? Not sure you can call it a massacre but Murica!
Maxwell Abelson American judges actually agreed that the soldiers were innocent sooo...
Maxwell Abelson oh right! it’s not called a massacre because of the murders of 5 Americans!
Compare the Boston "massacre" to something like Bloody Sunday. It was not that bad, especially given the circumstances
To attempt to quell this whole thing, it is historically called the Boston Massacre here in America. While I understand it is called the Incident on King Street in Britain, it was still an undeniable factor into the eventually revolution. My main point was that Alpharad ignored/forgot any actual reasons the war might have started and said there weren’t really any. I could have easily replaced Boston Massacre with Taxation Without Representation and made the same point.
"How did [Columbus] [kill so many natives?"
_Most_ of it was unintentional, at least at that stage---it was the diseases that wiped them out.
a lot of the death was caused by forcing the natives into close quarters so they can exploit their labor. not only were they exposed to new diseases, they were exposed to gross, inhumane working conditions that killed them in other ways too. Not to mention the massacres and Columbus's attempt to kick starting the slave trade was also a huge part of it too.
@@jkwayne7174 Yes, that's also true. The fact that the majority were unintentional does nothing to shrink the horror of those atrocities.
John Michael Figueroa I think unintentional is a sort of a poor word which is why I chimed in. While it's correct, it sort of implies they had no idea treating people poorly would kill tons of people. Though I know you didn't mean it that way (especially now), language is wacky sometimes so I thought I'd chime in for good measure.
Most of the civilians killed by US drone strikes are also "unintentional"
@@kabusohikaru6187 No, no they aren't. The military knows what drones and missiles are and knows they kill people. Columbus didn't know what microbes or immune systems were.

Speaking of how American history is screwed up, wait till Canadian history gets more in the limelight lol
Everyone's country is "the worst" until they learn about someone else's history.
What part of Canadian history is fucked? As a European, all I know about Canadian history is how natives were mistreated in the 1900's, literally nothing else. I haven't even learned about Canadian independence or anything like that
@@kabusohikaru6187 Same, and even with mistreatment, while I'm pretty sure it's still morally wrong in the 1900's, with most things America/any country gets called evil for that happened more than a hundred years ago they seem like they were morally acceptable, which is why I don't get people calling Europeans/Americans evil for things we did when that just shows how we've developed socially/morally since then, and can be compared to places that haven't socially developed the same way.

As someone who minored in history hearing Jacob and Jo talk about this is genuinely hilarious
People thought racism was cool up until, like, the beginning of the 1900’s or something. The 3/5 Compromise was a different thing. (We were talking about this in History just yesterday, so I should know.)
So when Congress was making the government, the Southern states wanted as high a population as possible in order to get the most representation in the House of Reps. The Southern states back then were mostly just farms and most of their population was slaves.
The Southern states were like, “Hey! Let us count the *too white to say that word* as our population!”
Then Congress said, “Well, you don’t let them vote so they can’t count as a person when it comes to population.”
They kept arguing until they reached a compromise. Black people would count as 3/5 of a person when it comes to population, but they still couldn’t vote.
That is so messed up...
The video ends in black like, three seconds after Joseph talks. It’s so imperfect, good attention to detail
Actually, the tea was never actually taxed. The price of it was lowered below that of smuggled tea to promote buying the british tea. They threw it all overboard in boycott
I’m from Boston, and the tea was shipped in for the purpose of enticing people to buy some tea, so to continue to boycot they dumped it into the harbor. Also, Christopher Columbus is now being taught more unbiased, I just learned of his journey and what he found, not the man himself. We were also taught about Leif Erikson and many examples of the pilgrims being bad.
