I love that he went in there and adopted Rocky! Taking in a rescue dog has absolutely changed my life for the better in so many unexpected ways. I can definitely say, for the rest of my life, I will have a dog, but I will never have a dog who isn’t a rescue. There are so many Rockies out there who NEED people like us to come and scoop them up and love them. If anyone out there reads this and feels a spark in their hearts, please go and adopt one. It will be one of the best decisions that you have ever made, I promise you!

We rescued one that came from a hoarding situation. She was still confused about everything (outdoors, loud noises, cars rides, cats, balls, toys?), and had a lot of anxiety and fears, so we got HER a rescue buddy, for training & companionship. Now, the girls rule our house (along with the 2 cats) and we are totally fine with that. They are well-behaved and loved.
I have 3 rescue Rockies and love them so much , the best decision I ever made, so please adopt don't shop 😍❤

He is definitely a chihuahua, his tongue his stature, his face, the way he acts around other dogs. When he is wet he looks exactly like a chihuahua, but It's the tongue right? A dead give away.
@@strangenameforaband342 And a Shih-Tzu with a summer haircut may look a bit like a Pug but with less wrinkles and longer fur. I had a spaniel that got mistaken for a Springer Spaniel countless times.

This is almost the exact story of the pom we rescued. He weighed 4 lbs when we found him in the middle of a snow storm and vet says he was 12-15 yrs old then. He was having teeth fall out of his head because he was so malnourished his body was leeching calcium from the roots of his teeth. The teeth would get stuck in his throat and choke him. He almost died 3 times his first week with us. They removed all but a few of his bottom teeth. His birthday is in a few days which puts him somewhere between 15- 18 yrs old. But he is my bestest buddy and so spoiled. Lol. Critters are the best!

@@lafamilledegrace5442 I wish I could put up pictures of what he looked like when we found him. All matted with dead bugs and spiders and webs in his tail. I painstakingly brushed the matted fur on his body but had to cut hair his tail fur off. I angled it so you couldn't tell but I tried for two hours and it just had to be cut. Having spiders crawl out of it did not help. He had fleas worse than I have ever seen. Those got taken care of the first night. They had made him anemic. Three types of worms. And the bad teeth had infected his blood so he had infection throughout his body and it gave him a level 3 heart murmur. Now his murmur is less than a 1. . He is 14.5 lbs now and beautiful. His vet says he looks and seems like an entirely different dog. She knows since he had herniated disks in his back and had to be crated for 6 weeks and his favorite thing to do it walk I got him a dog stroller so he could go on his walks without hurting himself.

@@customer5032 From his lack of care and his fear of abandonment and all his health issues and after speaking with his vet, and certain behaviors he has when he had to be crated to treat his herniated disk's in his back, we believe he came from a puppy mill. I think he was used by a breeder. We were puppy sitting 2 large German shepherd dogs, they were very hyper and tried to eat my dog through the huge pen we had them in. While normally I would have brought them inside,, they were not housetrained and very destructive. And since I had the senior pomeranian and also 3 baby squirrels in the house ( they fell put of the tree days after their mom was hit by a car and they were on the brink of death from dehydration and starvation and also the temperature was going to be below freezing when we heard them fall,, one had a neck and brain injury as well from the fall, they are all well now and been released. The female and one of the males visit me everyday and scratch at the door for snacks) made them them huge pen in the backyard and crated them in the garage at night because of all the wild animals around here. As far as the pomeranian he is definitely spoiled now!! And he checks on his squirrel siblings when he goes outside. They come up to him and touch him or kiss him sometimes. But they do not trust any other animals or people.

I have a rescued 3 legged old dog that behaves exactly like this dog, no teeth, grumpy, loves being held, goofy looks. Also got organic top quality food for him, he's such a perfect dog who deserves nothing but the best.

We have been adopting animals from shelters since my early childhood. I can’t remember a time when we didn’t have a dog or a cat or something to play with and love. Now I’m approaching 75 this year and I still have my beautiful lynx point Siamese cat that a lady rescued from a dumpster. She’s gorgeous! She’s also very loving. Thank you for helping. If we had more people who had more love and respect for animals, the world would be a better place.

re: decayed teeth and grumpiness. I’m glad his health issue was resolved. Sick teeth certainly can contribute to having the grumpies.

Similar story here, but with a young dog. Went to the shelter for another dog, was #8 on the visit list, wandered in back and found the best, or at least the prettiest and friendliest, dog on the planet. She was a rescue-return, labeled a behavioral problem, but that's just separation anxiety for a former stray. I'm retired, perfect match.
I would have gone right up to this dog at the shelter and brought him home. No contest!

8 years ago I had a female dog , looked just like Rocky ! My dog was crossed “angry“ chihuahua and pug , no one wanted her . I took her in and we were together till she was 18 years old 😢 I have her ashes. I love and miss her so much
All I can say is what a GREAT couple! Unconditional love, that's what they give rocky, a dog no one wanted at the shelter, but guess what, it turned around when a kind man came in and saw rocky! and wanted him. He changed his life, and he and his wife live for this little dog! Older rescue pets have such diverse, fun personalities. We rescued a 12-1/2 yr old dog who died at 19 on 4-17-23. We miss his zany, fun personality every day.

I lost my dog last summer to fluid build up around her heart. Cause; overweight. A word of advice. Please, don't let your small dogs especially get to fat. I just don't want some else to loose their dog that way.
I’m sorry for your loss! And thank you for your concern. I promise we take good care of Rocky and keep an eye on his weight. He’s on prescription food and the vet said he’s at a healthy weight. Some angles make him look chunkier than he really is-he has a lot of thick fur, and a oddly shaped body (barrel chest and short torso) so he appears stocky. He’s about 9.5 pounds which is a great weight for a little old man!

I had a big senior-dog from a shelter here in Germany, I lost her in 8.25.2022 She was 14 years old. She came to me in age of 8 years.
she was for 7 endless years on a short chain in Hungaria... She was so beautiful an I miss her so much, my other dog is still sad, because she missed her too...

We did that several years ago and he only lived 4 years but we gave him the very best life he could have and we loved him so much from day one! RIP little Pedro.
