Think about it Randy. Muddy water provided cover and shade, so they didn’t need the cover of docks or brush to be comfortable. The were probably waiting for forage or just hitting the smaller lures as a reaction without hunger being a factor.

I'm reading a book by Robert Kiyosaki "Fake:
Fake Money, Fake Teachers, Fake assets - How Lies are Making the Poor and Middle Class Poorer"
The Introduction begins with "Rich dad often said: "You cannot catch fish in clean water." .. Referencing an ancient Chinese proverb.
The book is great - anyway Robert Kiyosaki is the Author of the International best seller "Rich Dad, Poor Dad."
That book is still at the top of Financial best sellers more than 20 years after he first published it.

This is something I've seen my stepdad and his friend do several times while crappie fishing. The number of 4-6 lb largemouth they've caught long lining is very surprising. I've been out with them a couple of times and have been able to experience it. That fight on a 12-16' rod with 6lb test line is something else.

Speaking of learning, I was out on the lake today, using a zoom ultra vibe crawl...#2 straight shaft hook...3/8 black bullet weight, had the hook coming out of the creatures back...missed about a half dozen! Then I remembered what u said about hooking a worm just through the skin on its side...so I did that to the crawl...BAM!...caught 4 in a roll in the boat...thanks Randy...u r the man"

Randy I live and fish mostly in West Central Wisconsin. During the hot summer months we find big schools of panfish and small bass in the deepest part of the lake. The guy who taught me that technique told me that those fish are using the thermocline as thier cover and structure.
I'm curious to know if there is a thermocline on Lake of the Ozarks?

Most likely there were some small schools of the latest shad crop scattered out near the surface in the middle of the cove. The spotted bass were simply following the little schools of bait fish around. Last year I was fishing the bank of a small cove with docks at Tenkiller. Water clarity was around 3ft, and 40-50 foot deep in the middle of the cove. With no signs of fish near the surface, a Bald Eagle grabs a 2 1/2 pound largemouth 45 yards from me in the middle of the cove.

I'm near the 90 mm and it's been a strange year for fishing. Little rain, creeks low with minimal feed to the Osage, warmer temperatures, Truman dam generation light, and a short full pool season has everything off. Also headwater readings of lake level don't appear to historically match water lines on riprap and bridge pilings. I'm hoping for a better season next year.

I have this happen all the time where I fish at table Rock more on the spotted bass than anything where I’m in 40 to 60 foot water and trolling with a deep diver around 15’ average with no bait fish showing and away from standing timber.
If I just want numbers I can usually rely on it but for size I need to find some kind of cover, standing timber close or lay down along the shore.
I fish an area mostly bare shoreline but filled with docks and have never been able to catch anything out from under them in over 20 years of trying is why I have focused more on off shore fishing and not being a bank beater as I just don’t find the fish up close until pre-spawn to spawn or when the lake is up and flooded.

Reminds me of something that happened when i want to PNG chasing Black Bass (no relation to your bass). We turned into this random creek, that looked identical to every other creek, but there was this 40 foot section that was stacked with Black Bass. No structure, no bait, they were just there. Guide had no idea why, but said there is always fish there.

The next day I my wife came out and we could hardly catch anything. The Friday on the lake were very few boats and only person i knew was my Dad. Then we moved to Florida and caught some big big bass. Even caught bass in ditches in Clewiston right along the roads where people's homes were. Now live in Missouri and only been fishing 3 times. I guess we should have bought a house on lake of the ozark.

In Wisconsin it is common for summertime bluegills to suspend over deep water, feeding on zoo plankton. It also keeps them away from weedlines and docks, where larger predators cruise looking for a meal. Why the bass were there...? A wise sage from Minnesota used to tell his seminar audiences, "Never tell the fish where they should be, or what they should be doing". Gets us into trouble every time.

A lot of big Bass were being caught on do nothing banks, near docks. with as much preasure as they get there with guy's fishing docks, maybe, they just move out from under the docks and get in some shady water that isn't beat on to have some peace and not be hit in the head with 3/4 oz. jig heads all day?

  • @2873lonewolf

Morning Randy...This is one of the reasons EXACTLY why I'm against FFS. I want to see professional anglers fish by skills, not by electronics. You learned something new and it really has no basis WHY they were there. Competitive angling should be 90% skill and 10% luck, or something like that if you understand what I'm getting at. GPS and 2D graphing should be the only setup allowed in competitive circuit.
Keep fighting the good fight! I think FFS technology should have never been allowed in first place. Before I get flamed for that stance, I'm not saying the fish jump in the boat if you have FFS. What i AM saying is that without FFS, the angler doesn't know if fish are or are not piled up in an area. Once you KNOW the fish are there, you can try different lure setups. Yes it takes skill to catch those fish, but it takes far less skill to achieve those results using high-end electronics.

I get flames too. I ran across this pattern five or six years ago and use it most every year. It payed off for me last weekend in fact. They'll first stage at the mouth to trap the prey and move in to feed over the next few weeks.

Downscan and sidescan are capable of showing fish being stacked up.

    • @2873lonewolf
      @2873lonewolf ปีที่แล้ว

@dsettleascii 2D may show what looks like them stacked up, it is not nearly the tool that FFS is.
Without discrediting professionals and speaking in the most general of terms, an average angler with the knowledge of operation of latest technology, can stand a chance against a professional. Again, speaking in the most general sense.
If I'm watching a tournament, I want to see a pro catching fish based on actual skill, not based on what FFS shows.
You comparing 2D to FFS is ridiculous, they are worlds apart! With 2D only and all things being equal, I would bet any amount of money, a pro will 100% of the time make the average angler look stupid.

The internet loves to focus on how pros use it to see a fish and then supposedly magically catch it but that’s not its actual benefit. I can honestly say I’ve never seen a bass on my FFS that I’ve cast to and caught. I use FFS to help tell me what the structure and cover out in front of me (where I will be casting) looks like so that I can stay positioned on a drop off or submerged weed line, etc; NOT to see fish. The days of having a traditional sonar mounted on your trolling motor so you see only what is directly below the boat in a 3’ circle are a complete waste of time unless you spend your entire day vertical jigging

    • @kevinlynch6799
      @kevinlynch6799 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@randyblaukatintuitive I agree that there is no comparison between “traditional” sonar (and side imaging) and FFS. First time using FFS I realized that fish markings on Sonar are often false! Crazy! I actually think Hummingbird and Lowrance should be ashamed of the accuracy of their Sonar units.
I am older than Randy and my total time on water looking forward is exponentially less than Randy’s time on water. I don’t live on or near lakes. FFS has taught me so much. It has not caught me more fish however.
Until FFS, my best “schooling” has been on a small, spring fed, crystal clear pond where you can observe (and catch) smallmouth bass, largemouth bass and bluegills. Amazing. I focus my observation (from a raised elevation over the water) on the Alpha fish in the area and see how all the other fish will hold off on hitting a bait till the Alpha first checks it out. I watch how the Alpha will “test” other “almost Alpha bass” by side bumping the lesser fish. I watch how bluegills will beat up a slightly injured bluegill till a bass eats that bluegill! And coolest of all, I have watched (multiple times) minnows go after a few scraps of a hotdog just to be eaten by a small bass that is then eaten by the Alpha who had been trailing the small bass for a while. Often, when you see a fish swimming almost side-by-side a hooked fish, that second fish is figuring out if and how it can eat the hooked fish not trying to steal the lure in the hooked fishes mouth. The trailing fish will even bump (“test”) the hooked fish.
FFS shows you how fish react in an environment below what you can physically see. It is worth repeating as this Truth keeps getting ignored: Just because you see a fish whether in clear water, on Sonar OR FFS, does not mean you will catch it.
I still think Tournament Fishing on spawning beds is chicken shit fishing with the side effect of messing up fish populations over the long-term.
I am sad for all the Hate and lack of open mindedness (Ignorance) by almost everyone.
Doesn’t matter the Issue, there is too much Hate and not enough effort in understanding others.

Its called individualism or personality... there is not much logic why a sane human would do meth and purposely be homeless...

You are an expert. You should know, but you dont. The bottom line is Randy. A fish is a fish. They can and will do anything they want to in their environment. I heard a mlf fishing said. He couldn't believe that a bass he caught would be that shallow upon the bank. Fishermen's say dumb stuff when they know they are on tv.

Just goes to show you...there are no guarantees & nothing is 100% in bass fishing, or any fishing really...Fish aren't controlled by people & do what they want, any time/any place..
