The bed should be level and full contact otherwise you’ll get reflective staining

Flat not level needs a fall on it.

Is it ok to do it on top of crushed stone like that? I typically pour a concrete slab first which drives the cost way up

I think it is ok if you compact every 2 inches and use geo grid every 3 inches. Lots of installations have been done over the crushed base.

You didn’t use a slurry or pva for a start and that’s way too much left over easy joint on the surface it will absorb and stain the Indian sand stone if left like that, make sure you meticulously get rid of all. I have a customer who didn’t really with the easy joint and simply brushed it all over his stairs like you’ve left yours and it stained £150 worth of stones

Hi do you know how to get rid of the staining? We have had a new patio and the landscapers did the pointing they told me it would fade away when it rains. However its not and its staining from the pointing. Absolutely devastated as its a large area. Any tips would be great

@@garyskinner2422 Hi mate, if its indian sandstone you should really be using SBR, PVA is as pointless as using nothing. Slurry is the name given to a watery cement mix some people like to brush on the back. SBR is basically like superglue for stone it will keep it stuck down pretty well no matter how much weight, walking, driving, etc it shouldnt move. with PVA or nothing after a couple of a lot of people walking on it cab start to move. Hoep this helps

Only trouble with those coloured stones is that they look terrible after a few months. Even when cleaned, they lose their colour and go beige in colour.
