  • Four years after being "completed" in time for the 2015 Pan-Am games in Hamilton, GO finally thought to add morning trains Eastbound on the Lakeshore West line from the West Harbour station in Hamilton, ON. Located at Bay Street, right next to the old - and beautifully preserved James Street station, now owned by LIUNA - the station is still a long way from complete. At the time of the video and as of this writing, trains can only access the station from the geographic west end (railroad east end), meaning that the trains arriving from the layover yard at McNeilly, in Winona, have to complete an awkward zig-zag move to get into the station. The good news is that CN is finally working again on the track into the station and on installing switches at Hamilton Jct, near Bayview, but when Hamilton will get "all-day" service is anyone's guess. Maybe I'll see it in my lifetime, maybe not...
In any event, Tuesday, September 3, 2019 was the first day for two new morning trains from the station meaning that for the first time since 1996, GO trains were easy (or if at all possible) to shoot at Stuart Street yard - see the Reg Button photo at the end of the video. This was the second of the two trains, a 7:09 departure, which not surprisingly arrived late and left about 5 minutes past the advertised time. Things quickly got worse when major signal problems at Burloak (Mile 27.1 on the Oakville sub) caused a stack-up of GO and VIA trains resulting in this train sitting at Snake (mile 36 on the Oakville sub) for quite some time.
A bonus while all this was going on was the opportunity to shoot one of four CN GMD-1's in southern Ontario, CN 1437, on the 07:00 Hamilton yard job.
    As always, thanks for watching!
