  • I like shortlines that have unique and diverse locomotive rosters, and at the moment, I think Trillium Railway fits the bill with a total of six engines and only two being the same model (GP9). The most powerful engine operated by GIO-owned Trillium is GP35 #3502, leased from J&L Consulting and painted in a bright red paint scheme ("Clifford"). The engine seems to be a survivor, having been delivered in 1964 to Rio Grande and later operating for Northern Plains Railroad before being acquired by JLCX. The scenery here in southern Ontario no doubt is much less interesting than the previous operations the locomotive visited, but who would have thought a 58-year old turbocharged 567-powered engine would survive among today's market of newer engines on the lease or secondhand market?
This is the only engine on GIO I haven't quite shot to my satisfaction yet, so this video is a series of clips from three separate days in 2022. The engine was out of service from September 2022 until just a few days ago (at time of uploading) and thus was somewhat difficult for me to catch. These clips are arranged in geographic order from Feeder to St. Catharines, with the last few shots working south toward Welland. I did shoot the engine recently so at some point I will have another video on this engine.
As always, thank you for watching!
