  • An update on COVID, PANS/PANDAS, and our experience in research and clinical practice at MGH
Please join Dr. Kyle Williams from the MGH PANDAS clinic as he presents an update on the COVID-19 pandemic and how it continues to affect care for children with PANS/PANDAS. We will discuss the current data and our clinical experience with all things COVID-19; infections, vaccinations, returning to school, and other topics. Dr. Sarah O’Dor, the Director of Research for our program, will join to present her research on how COVID has changed the way we deliver healthcare for PANS/PANDAS and discuss our upcoming research projects at MGH.

In our experience it was not an acute onset after COVId. This started the autoimmune cascade which brought on the somatic symptoms a few months later. Like other cases of PANS, it’s not a “sudden” change, which is why families aren’t making the connection. They think their child is fine, and then months later they start having symptoms. There is a delay of several days, weeks and even months. Often the problem is there is underlying immune dysregulation which isn’t known and then they get a flu shot, virus, or get exposed to a pathogen, maybe something like a parasite- and that could lead to a more acute episode/first flare/more observable exacerbation or behavioral change. But there was already a stage set for this to happen!

How can I get Dr Kyle Williams to council my family over our nephew stricken with Pandas?
