INFO: There’s so much more we can discuss about Primus. The different band members have all been part of other interesting bands, the way Claypool continuously go back to the theme of ocean life and seaworkers is quite interesting and their way of merging funky, heavy and unconventional sounds with comedic lyrics also deserve a mention. In this video i give you an introduction to the band’s overall sound, history and legacy.

"One of those bands from the 80's" - well, technically, yes, they're FROM the 80's. But that's like saying U2 were from the 70's. Primus's first studio album was in the 90's, and that was their decade of peak fame. So they were a 90's band.

My Les Claypool story. I am walking into the Aladdin in 1996 in Las Vegas to a Phish show. My friend and I see Les walking in the show. We go up to him and say, "Les, Les, hey Les!" He turns around and gives us the evil eye as if he had lasers coming out of his eyes. "Maybe that wasn't Les?" We thought. Well, at the end of the Phish show, Les comes out and jams with them for a historic hour. Phish, Les, Elvis impersonators, people lost their minds! Yes that was Les alright walking in the show that night. I will never forget it as he played the Jedi mindtrick card. ✌ (5 years earlier, I see Primus and Fishbone at the Aladdin with the seats being ripped out during the Fishbone set. Aladdin had to cut the power. Two different vibes but historic shows).

@For the Doggies Guitars I was at that show too and met Les after it ended. He was looking to find out where Greyboy Allstars were playing (they'd been following the Phish tour and played aftershow gigs all up and down the West Coast). I wasn't sure, but my buddy knew, and we all walked down the block and headed in together. One of the GBAs crew saw Les walking up to the venue, and waved him over to the private entrance. The guy was about to close the door on me and my buddy, but Les turned around and said, "They're with me." So in we went with Les into the Green Room and had a couple beers with him and the band, who I'd become friends with because I saw them at almost every afterparty, and then in walks Trey, Fish, and Mike. I can't really go into the rest on a public forum, but as my 1st time to Vegas, I had a VERY Vegas experience. lol

Primus is one of the most fun and trippy concerts I've ever attended. Big fan, and they've aged like a fine wine. Side note: Failure's Fantastic Planet is a forgotten 90s space-grunge masterpiece concept album. If you haven't heard it, you definitely should give it a shot. They have a similar story to Primus in the sense that they took a long hiatus (even longer than Primus) and then released a great comeback album (Troy Van Leeuwen of QOTSA and A Perfect Circle fame also has origins as a live guitarist for Failure). Honestly the most underrated rock band I can think of.

Great job man.. Been my favorite band since 91ish.. Anyway would be great to see one on les claypool and his many "side projects". I subscribed based on this video alone

    - Larry Lalonde was formally trained by Joe Satriani
    - Les once tried out for Metallica
    - Les denies being a member of The Residents, but come on, man....that's totally him.

I'll never forget my ex roommate turn me on to Primus I thought they were really cool and strange like Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention was then my ex-roommate took me to a church where they played Christian heavy metal I I've always remembered that time in my life and I'm internally grateful to my ex-roommate for turning me on the Primus they're one of the best man's I've ever heard✌😎

A good thing to focus on the next primus video is the hallucinogenetics tour and les’ dabbling in the jam band scene that led to a complete change in the primus sound and reinvigorated their comeback in a way. Specifically their ep animals should not try to act like people, and the spaced out masterpiece live shows of 2003-2004. I think it’s a deep cut side to Primus that a lot of people would enjoy hearing about.

I miss their old website. It was full of fun stuff. Lots of my days in high school were spent in that webpage.
Also im pretty sure their first band name was Sausage and not primate or primus.

One must know their sense of humor and appreciate their talent as individuals.. if you took each one of them and put them in any other band, they each would be the most talented in that band.. they are pure genius if you step back and really think about it..
