    Five years later and his latest edition of this rig is just amazing! I think he’s taking orders for the latest build too?
    That new dewatering / shaker-deck is my favorite addition!

    Thanks Allen. I used your instructions to build a Bucket Trommel Wash Plant about a month ago and last week I used it at a club outing to find about 1.5 grams of gold. I found I was able to move about the same amount of material as two guys using a highbanker. No spray or mud hole to stand in and some of the highbanker guys were wearing rain suits to stay dry. Thanks again.

      That's great news Dale ! Love a good story. I'm sure the high banker guys were jealous ! If you get a chance, post a video of your digs. Hope you keep finding more gold !

    I’ll tell you what Allen. When I first ran across your vids while I was watching a jeff Williams vid, I thought you were just some goofy guy and not what I was looking for.
    I watched just one of your videos and learned so much!! You truly are awesome!! I have my trommel built now and it works fantastic!!!! Not only did you make a great build series for it, but I learned how the trommel functions inside and out!!
    I can’t thank you enough. My build was well under 50 bucks, as I already had the expensive parts like the motors.
    It’s so funny to look at these 3,4 even 5k trommels and know that I don’t have to buy that for great results!! An awesome money saver, a fun build, and no back breaking classifying anymore!! Thank you for saving my wallet and vastly improving my yield!! I will send you a bit of money soon to help support you. This is the best piece of gear I own now.....and I built it!! Thanks Allen!!

      Jeff !!!! That has to be the most amazing complements anyone has ever written me. What an amazing story too. It must be the hat that makes me look goofy. Lol !!! Funny, when I watched my first JW video I thought the same. Lol !!
      Yeah, those out of the box trommels are expensive ! You can build a whole bunch of bucket trommels at those prices, and probably last just as long ! It's one of reasons I ventured into it. However, I'm the only one. Got inspiration from other DIY videos to create my own.
      Yeah, there's nothing like building your own stuff ! Fun to show it off to fellow prospectors too, and watch them scratch their heads. Lol !! That's why I made my first video 5 years ago. Didn't think anyone would watch it. Now it has over 600K views. Who would of thought ??
      Glad you enjoyed the trommel build series to help you along ! Much appreciated, but you don't owe me a dime. Glad to do it, and share the hobby with others. I make $$ from the commercials. Lol !! Just pay it forward and share your build with friends.
      Send me a few pics of your rig when you get it running. Love to see it. allan.goldmining@gmail.com

    I watched this video when it first came out, but had no need for a trommel, as I had a 1970s model commercial screening plant and multiple pieces of heavy equipment.. the spring I'll be moving to a new claim, and moving the screening plant is going to be nearly impossible. This little trommel is going to be a lifesaver! Thanks so much alan!

    You should build one just like that, but there's a lot of those magnet motor things like that. If you double hook up in the shirt, a certain way to wear one motor powers that motor you have right there. With the magnet set up, you could have a full. You could probably have a full one portable

    Hi Allen, used a t with a bushing for the bearing. My first you tube
    Quick way to cut the buckets is use a dermal saw blade on a drill mandel, adjust the hight on the drill press and just rotate the bucket. Another trick is cut 2"bands from a bucket and place a pice of screen over the band and press the other band over the screen. The taper of the buckets give you band that will fit over. Good screener for sampling or covering traps.

    • @allansgoldmining
      @allansgoldmining  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing this. My friend did the same for his bucket trommel. My only concern is the increased drag of the bushings. They tend to bind as the trommel frame flexes under load. That's why I prefer pillow block bearing. Less drag, and adjusts to flexure.

    Ok. You're a genius and you got me. I'm a gonna subscribe. There must be some way of using the water to the top trommel to turn the shaft before it hits the wash area. It gets pumped there anyway and it's not utilised until it hits the pay-dirt. It'd save one windscreen wiper motor and a bit of power. Actually, it could even be used to turn the bottom trommel too. There's enough force as it comes off the sluice. Just needs a bit of "Out of the box" thinking. By the way, your design is awesomely thought out from start to finish in this first vid. Congrats on a job very well done :)

    • @allansgoldmining
      @allansgoldmining  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for the subscribe and nice compliments ! Glad you enjoyed the video. Sounds like you potentially have a good idea using water pressure to turn the trommel. Give it a try. If it works, post a video. Would love to see it !I currently replaced the 12 volt bilge pump with a 3hp 1 1/2" trash pump. This gives me plenty of water (at idle) for trommel and sluice. Best of all, I can muck out the tubs with it ! Wish you the very best in your prospecting adventures !

    • @2Qwk2C
      @2Qwk2C 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you Allan. My prospecting is limited to my detector at the moment. However I will be panning and sluicing in the near future. I will build your trommel as it is fantastic however being a bit of a novice in all things trommel/sluice I have no idea quite where to begin, especially in regards to water flow requirements at the top/entry where the pay-dirt is put in. Would need a more experienced eye than mine to create a turbine/shaft turner plus delivering the required water-flow to breakup the dirt in the hopper. I will have a look at it tho and see how I go. Cheers and keep your gold lessons coming, they're great! :)

    • @allansgoldmining
      @allansgoldmining  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Let me know if you have any questions. In my original video, I was pumping 3700gph over standard Hungarian Riffles, however, since I changed the sluice insert to a "Pickle Puss Mat" (sold by Snake River Products) I need only 2000 gph. Slope of the sluice is 4:1 (4" height per 1 ft. length of sluice). Hope to have a new video in the fall showing all the new improvements. Good luck on your future trommel build !

    Alan, I do have a little suggestion that should take a significant amount of time off of adding the threaded rod to the buckets. When you first insert the rod into the bucket with a washer and the nut installed, before you add the second washer and nut you put a SECOND nut on top of the first one and secure them tightly to one another, just make sure that both nuts are near the end of the rod. next, you add the second nut and washer to the inside of the bucket and to thread that nut and washer on you put a 1/4" nut driver into your drill and hold the inside nut with your fingers and proceed to turn the outside nut with the drill and nut driver. This will move or thread the nut and, by the way, the rest of the nuts onto the threaded rod, and therefore cutting all of the tedious time off of that part of the assembly. I do hope that this helps! You just keep up the good work that you're doing to help all of us greenhorns out here!

    • @allansgoldmining
      @allansgoldmining  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nicholassteichen4552 my apologies. Darn spell checker ! It's EMT electrical tubing that is the main drive shaft. The insert piece at the end is a 1" steel shaft so it can merge with the pillow block bearing. This shaft can be found in the swap cooler section of the hardware store, or any metal supply store. You could simply use a 1" shaft for the entire length, but it's more expensive than a piece of EMT. On videos 2 and 3, I made a parts list at the end to help you gather materials. • @allansgoldmining
      @allansgoldmining  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nice thought James, however, it traps gold within the iron / black sand filings and eventually obstructs the flow onto the sluice. Been there, done that. A possible solution would to install a large "Spin-it-Off" unit on the head plate that would continuously spin and peel off black sand, thus leaving the gold in the sluice. I have a friend working on this design. Thanks for your suggestion !

    Great work! Question, for shovel/bucket style feeding as you do, is there any advantage to making the trommel a larger diameter, longer, or both? I am thinking that the longer the dirt stays in the trommel the better the washing and screening.

    • @allansgoldmining
      @allansgoldmining  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your thoughts. Yes, a larger diameter and/or longer trommel would be better. In my demonstration, I'm dealing with simple materials. So, the 5 gal buckets limits diameter, however, one could increase length to make the difference. However, there is a limit. The more rocks you have tumbling in the trommel, a larger motor drive unit is required to handle the load. My design is within these limits. Although, I have stalled the trommel a few times by overloading it. So, it's a bit of an engineering trade-off. Thanks for watching and good luck on your trommel build ! 🤠⛏⚒👍

    • @1Search
      @1Search 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      i'm guessing it has to do with the PVC support frame and portability ....

    • @allansgoldmining
      @allansgoldmining  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Robert. Simplicity, weight, portability, and costs were consideration. The plastic buckets flex a bit under the weight of material, making it a challenge to maintain symmetry. A central shaft gives all the plastic components something to align with. I built a plastic bucket trommel on rollers, and works well because the base is 2x4 wood frame. Actually, it's a dual counter rotating trommel (one inside the other). The inner trommel turns on the traditional shaft, while the outer unit is on rollers and drive belt. It was a test model for a fine dewatering system that failed to meet my expectations, eventually leading to the linear transfer dewatering deck I'm operating today. BTW, hundreds of people globally have built this design and are using it in the field.. Quite amazing ! Thanks for your questions, and thanks for watching !

    When you cut the bucket from the other end and pushed it through how did you cut it without cutting into the secured wire?

    • @allansgoldmining
      @allansgoldmining  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your question. If you review segment starting at about 19:00, you will notice that I pre-cut the bucket, leaving only 4 small segments attached. This maintains stability during assembly because the shaft hole is retained. When it comes time to completely seperate the lower portion of the bucket, there's only a few inches that need cutting. I'm very careful to keep the cuts superficial to prevent cutting the screen. Hope this helps.

      Hi Nathan. Upon suggestion from other viewers, I placed a parts list at the end of video 2 & 3. Thanks for watching, and good luck on your trommel build !
