  • This was my second time out offshore! again, the weather was very mild, and I was comfortable with the elevated risk that weather can pose going offshore.
    I started heading north, up to the top section of reef and pulled up a few snapper bonito and Yakkas on the way, before getting a lot of Bonito off the surface over the top of the reef.
    Again, i was sea sick and next time will have a trip to the chemist to see if it helps.
    I caught a few extra fish but the video was getting just a bit long to include all the weird stuff I got.
    The kayak is a Hobie revolution 13 and the sounder is a Garmin Striker 4 Plus with mapping.
    Below are some links to stuff I used that are quite good value and I get a commission from it, so open that wallet, bankrupt yourself and buy some great gear!

    It's so interesting to see a lot of those same species which we usually fish on a kayak here in Japan.

      I feel like sport fish are very similar around the world, BUT I was very surprised to see Japanese anglers catching flathead!

    Ripper session mate well done! How much extra "range" do you reckon you get by using the food pedals/leg power compared to normal paddling? You're really making me want to get a Hobie haha.

    • @cballzoutdoors
      @cballzoutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would say at least 10 times the range and it also means you can tolerate wind much better meaning a 20kph day is unpleasant but still fishable. I went out the other day on longreef and did 25k all up but it is more the convenience. if you want to get one and are on the edge, just go second hand, get one with a reverse drive that you can car top and I am certain you'll be happy but if you are not, just sell it for little to no loss

    Do you ever get worried about sharks?!

    • @cballzoutdoors
      @cballzoutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really, I think when I gut the fish etc, I normally try to wait a while before sliding forward, and putting my legs over the side while I put the fish in the cooler because that is probably the highest chance that I attract a shark

    The reason why dolphins play with pufferfish is because they get stoned off the fish's toxins. That's a pretty awesome thing to witness!

    what’s the shortest kayak you’d be comfortable taking out there? i have an 11ft hobie and am looking to do something similar

    • @cballzoutdoors
      @cballzoutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      Length isn't so much an issue. More total buoyancy vs your size. I'm 110 kg and I'm very comfortable on the revolution 13 which is 14ft. So if you were sub 100 I'm sure it would be fine

    What jigging rod do you use - especially interested in the range of weights it handles for jigging. I have a Jewel rated 80 - 200g, now looking for something yakworthy to cover smaller jigs, eg. those advertised on your website.

    • @cballzoutdoors
      @cballzoutdoors  15 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Hi David, in this video I'm using an atomic arrows 702mhfs which is brilliant for $130 but is stiff as a board.
      I have recently updated to a Daiwa td Zed 762MHFS which has a soft tip into a very stiff middle. It is much nicer to fish. These rods are both rated for 30g lures.
      Line class is also very important, I fish 16lb, which means in 30m of water a 15g will get to the bottom. If you go much heavier you will struggle getting small jigs deep.
      I'm intending to do some more videos this year on how to's because I think it's simple but I realistically copied some stuff from shore jigging and some stuff from vertical boat jigging

    Don't have turbo fins? Seem to be doing a lot of pumping for not much progress...Thought you catch lots more fish than I do. 😔
    Maybe need to adjust the number setting on the mirage unit to a longer setting?
    Do you get any fish trolling behing the yak as you travel?

    • @cballzoutdoors
      @cballzoutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      SO! I have GT fins, I dont think they are turbo, BUT just realised the tensioner was all the way undone. I have tightened them to full now so that will aparently give me more speed. my top speed previously was 10k absolutely killing myself so hopefully it improves the speed a lot!
      RE trolling, not really, I think the diver goes to 6m, and in 30ish m of water it ends up being more of a nuisance having to wind it back up.
