- We caught up with Craig Costello, graffiti artist and creator of KRINK, the notorious brand responsible for drip style markers, mops, and fire extinguishers.
As a punk kid growing up in Queens, Craig would scavenge for supplies to paint the walls and buildings of New York. His desire to create larger pieces and invent unique graffiti tools led to the development of his internationally recognized ink and paint brand Krink Inc. Craig's signature style morphed out of his modifications and innovations with paint tools; using a fire extinguisher filled with paint and paint markers rather than spray paint, his style became an instant hit in many cities around the world.

It's sad because he grew up in an era where you had to steal your paint and whatnot; it was cheap and he recognized that. KRINK is overpriced as shit, $13 for a squeezer (5:15), keep in mind they are only about 2.5 inches long and don't hold a lot of paint. He knows graffiti grew up in a poor environment but still makes his items overpriced.

Jackson Pollock accidentally figured out how to drip paint just by using a piece of wood on canvas laid out in the studio floor and Krink used the same idea for graffiti ; only he figured out how to be Pollock on the wall by using the fire extinguisher as a painting tool!!

i make ink with about 40ml of ethanol,5ml wood dye,8 black pens,2 blue pens,and i put steel wool in a container with about 10ml vinegar let it sit for a month and mixed the brown shit it turned the vinegar into into the ink mixture and it stains fucking crazy but it smells like cancer

I think a lot of people just don’t understand. Drips are his “thing”. It wasn’t really a “thing” before him. This lead to the creation of drips becoming a staple of the graffiti movement. He developed a style and a product that in itself is like a tag. Anyone who throws a tag with a Krink mop isn’t only putting their name up, but essentially this guys too. That’s the ART behind it. How many thousand’s of tags around the world were put up with his K-60? You can’t hit every spot by yourself. It’s impossible. But you can get close with a little help from everyone. That’s how I see it. The “it’s just pouring paint on a wall” literally is now up across the world. That’s art.

i always wondered what they used to do the massive tags sprayed out in Melbourne, Aus. Now i know, fire extinguishers. I know when I was younger I had plenty of mates who would put wood stainer in a paint marker and they would go to town on that as it would leave a stain on anything. and be extrodinarily hard to clean out.

You need to understand that this is graffiti in its most minimalistic form, yes this guy has the pseudo-artistic pretentiousness in the way he speaks, but the message he's trying to convey is that graffiti is part of urban architecture, to arrange colors on walls, to give depth to a gray concrete jungle, to play with order. He brings everything back to the primitive idea of street art, try to compare this to plato's philosophy of ideas. If you dont want to understand the essence of this guys work, you cant understand graffiti and, to be honest, any art of the street. you are not a graffiti artist if you cant see the art in this, you're just an ignorant toy.
no, buildings and real sculptures are apart of the urban architecture. random blotches of dripped paint is not.

id say its just an element of graffiti not graffiti as a whole in minimalistic form. him throwing his drips up on the walls is like me going and putting a random arrow on the wall.. or just painting some shines.

Why so many dislikes let the dude do his thing. Just because it's different or requires less effort doesn't make it superior or inferior to anybody else's piece or tag or artistic expression it is what it is no reason to judge it so thoroughly.
