As weird as this sounds for a long time I always thought that Terry and andy bogard were actually secretly the real children of geese howard. And no not because they are blond like geese. But because I had always thought that it was strange that geese had never finished off Terry and andy and that the real reason was because they were his real children. Honestly as ironic as that sounds I thought it was cool. Also because I thought that it would make Terry and rocks relationship modes of a brother type of thing having Terry look after rock because he's actually his younger brother and not because he pitied the fact that geese was his father. I mean that would also make this entire thing go full circle. And then maybe have Terry take over geeses crime syndicate or something like that. Maybe having geese tell him that before he falls to his death. If there was some type of spinoff story that had this I'd actually really like it. And as much as this makes no sense I actually thought this for a long time before I started doing more research.
I never thought that Terry is Geese's son, but I always thought that Andy is. If you look at Young Geese in Art of Fighting 2,he looks exactly like Andy. Pretty weird coincidence.

People doesn't know this but the Maximum Impact series take place in the Fatal Fury timeline. I think before the events of Garou. Maximum Impact had an animated series called KOF Another Day In episode 2, Rock dreamt about he fighting Terry and the fight ended up with Rock falling to his doom and Terry failed to save him, kinda like Geese's death. Maybe that was direction the developers wanted. Maybe Rock was going to become like his father? It was destiny? We will never know.
MegaNinten 007 The Maximum Impact series does have some pretty good and interesting ideas of it's time (Kinda like the 3-D MK games from DA - Armageddon), but all that got overshadowed by the game's flaws. Edit: But being in the same Continuity as the Fatal Fury/Art of Fighting Timeline? That really doesn't make any sense, even if it was characters like Kyo, Irori, K (Dash), Leona and even Ash weren't supposed to be in it because they only exist in the KOF continuity, despite that MI is a Sub Series (More of a Side Quest/Story) the character Bios/Backstories still remain faithfully consistent. so could that mean the Orochi & NEST storylines have already happened in the FF/AOF Timeline, See where I'm getting at?

The timeline starts with the AOF games, then continue with the FF games and ends with the Fu'un duology. I'm not sure if Last Blade is in the Fatal Fury or main KOF timeline, there's a character from Last Blade that is a long relative of Eiji Kisaragi so it must be connected with one of the 2.
I remember playing this game at my local arcade back in the early 2000's. I was already a huge KOF fan and immediately enjoyed Mark of the Wolves! Just as you described the gameplay was well animated with the modernized sprites and the attack moves and the story was very intriguing. It's a shame they never released a sequel, but I remember playing a couple of SNK titles around this time that tried to appeal to the KOF and Street fighter audience but never got the same popularity. Last blade was another that I could remember playing and LOVING but eventually they got booted for Marvel vs. Capcom and SF sequels. Thank you so much for covering this title and giving me more to appreciate in it's nostalgia. Please keep up the good work.
Siiiiiigh. I've been waiting so long for the sequel to finally answer some questions. Please, PLEASE let the Lone Wolf and Cub have the spotlight again some day, SNK. Their characters are wasted as KOF non-entities. One of my favorite things about this game though is the example it sets for code mastery. This was one of the last games that was released on the original Neo Geo hardware, which had a lifespan of around 15 years when compared to a typical console life of about 5. When you compare just how much more advanced this game is than, say, the original Fatal Fury, you would not be blamed if you believed them to be built for entirely different consoles. It was nearly the difference between the SNES and the Playstation despite the Neo Geo being somewhere between the two (24 bit console, as opposed to the SNES 16 and the Playstation's 32). The programmers by this point were so familiar with the hardware they could make it do things it was never designed or intended to do, and it really shows here.
I love Garou, and I really wanted to see a sequel because after Rock's ending... Like, I seriously don't know how they could continue after that (maybe making Rock a subboss to Kain? I don't know). Also Terry is my main as always, but I must say I love his voiceclips in this game, they are awesome! xD "BAHNING!"
The guy in the blue hat is supposed to be Kain's Butler and the girl with the orange pants is Joe Higashi pupil who I think appeared in a KOF Fatal Fury ending. Gato's father was also going to be in the sequel as well
I want soo bad SNK to make a sequel to this MASTERPIECE, I not kidding when I say, Garou it deserve to be in the pantheon of greatest Fighting games ever made, and one of the best sequels or last entry in any series of FG made. The way Garou use their characters and their connections to previous Art of Fighting and Fatal Fury characters is amazing, it pull what STREET FIGHTER III wanted to do but done RIGHT, the issue many of us had with SFIII when first shows up was that there was not a single previous world warrior, but Ken and Ryu, but worse non of the new generations fighters was related in anyway with any of the previous characters (maybe Yun and Yang), and even if their style was nothing like any SF character before.....Garou didn't go that way, many characters are connected to previous fighters in story and in some style, the sons if Kim, the student of Andy, the new Lone Wolf student of Terry, the Karate disciple o Ryo, and then the new comers where so cool and awesome, my favorite been Hotaru....the cutest Fighting game character EVER. Man I hope SNK just listen to their fans, this and Last Blade are 2 franchise they NEED TO BRING BACK.
You were sort of correct at the start there, Fatal Fury did come after Art of Fighting in chronological order, though the first Art of Fighting game was released a year after the firs Fatal Fury game, confusing I know. There probably wound have been a Garou: Mark of the Wolves 2 if SNK did not go bankrupt in 2000, but still a potential sequel could be made in the future, due to the success of some of SNK's recent titles for modern consoles.
Terry's ending in SNK Heroines is really interesting. It was a dream but some people believe dreams are like visions about the future. Maybe Terry was dreaming about Rock's future betrayal 🤔 Maybe the plan in Garou 2 was for Terry and Rock to fight each other like Terry vs. Geese.
This was not the first time, even in Maximum Impact series, especially the ONAs had given some emphasis on this aspect. Rock also dreamt/thought about this thing

So yeah that episode revolving around Rock implied that he turned our fine and both guys stayed together in 2nd south town as Kain was probably overthrown by Duke/Jivatma's criminal syndicate.

Dude. Shoryu how could you tease me with that trick at the end! I thought there was a part two of Garou! Ya got me! lol. Yes, Mark of the Wolves is a completely underrated game with some great fighting mechanics. Of course i rocked Khushnood Butt the most just because he played like Takuma, and i loved the way his voice echoed during his super lol. I think this is the game that had that awesome 3 hitter combo from Terry, but i can't remember lol. Of course Rock and Hokutomaru were awesome to play because of the familiarity, but the only character i REALLY sucked at was Gato. For some reason i could not really master that guy lol. I really wish they would make a part 2 of this game and bring back a lot of the characters they introduced. At the very least, SNK should tap them for a KOF team or two! Has anyone ever really thought of Andy as a ninja? His apprentice and Mai practice the same martial art, but they're all very different from eachother. That being said if Mai had an apprentice in the sequel that would make a great rival for Hokutomaru

Excellent video! I love this game, it was new and came to my life in a transitional moment (year 2000 in Argentina). I started playing it again a few months ago and still enjoy it. I am all for stories and plotlines, and I think that most characters here have some unresolved issue related to their past and/or family ties that move them to compete in the event. my favorite characters in Garou are B. Jenet, Gato, Marco and Kim's children. It is a shame we never got a Garou 2 😢 I have heard Joe's disciple was going to be part of the roster. Also, it is a shame Lilly Kane wasn't playable in the roster of Garou She could be Billy's replacement.

No, the sequel wasn't almost finished at all, it was around 40%-50% completed when it was cancelled, the CM of SNK and the director of the first Garou confirmed this.
But there’s highly suspicious that Terry and Rock are actually brothers because it’s implied that Terry is actually Geese’s bastard son, they even use the same special move in the first Fatal Fury game.

Fantastic video, I think the depth and strength of the narrative of this game directly contributes to the gameplay and mechanics. It’s almost as though the developers had a clear purpose behind the design decisions. This could be a Netflix series!
Garou, to me, is much like Rival Schools is to Capcom. It's that one amazing property that SNK had that was never revisited. Garou had so many amazing characters in its cast. My favorite was easily Dong Hwan, the eldest of Kim sons. His style felt so smooth and responsive. Then there were other characters like Khushnood, Gato, Tizoc and Jae Hoon. It's crazy to realize that it's been 22 years since Garou debuted. And today, it's a timeless and fully functional fighting game that has aged extremely well. What disappoints me further is the fact that we were supposed to get a sequel. The sequel was apparently going to have a student studying under Joe Higashi as well as Ryo Sakazaki himself!? Honestly, if I were SNK developers, I'd hurl the King of Fighter's time scale into the sun as it doesn't make sense in the state it's currently in anyway. Just start introducing Garou characters if there isn't going to be a sequel to Garou already. We already have Gato, Hotaru, B. Jenet and Tizoc who are part of the King of Fighters canon as well as Rock showing up as a potentially canon/non-canon DLC character in XIV. I'd personally love to see Joe Higashi's student realized in King of Fighters XV's graphics, as well as other Garou characters like Dong Hwan and Khushnood. SNK absolutely needs to revisit Garou in some way.
I have a few suggestions for videos I want to see in the near future. KOF lore for Andy Bogard, Mai Shiranui and Angel, these three are a favorites that you didn't made a video about them and I love to see it happening. Shoryu Ten videos: Best characters with no superpowers, like you did with the best fire users. Best stages in KOF ( that would be cool) Best special ( or super) moves in KOF. I hope to like this suggestions and keep it up.

The story was interesting I feel like Rock canonically defeated Kain and it was left on such a at awe cliffhanger!!! Let us hope that Garou Mark of the Wolves 2 comes to fruition with possibly some Fatal Fury OGs returning like an older Blue Mary, Joe, Andy, Yamazaki, Rick Strowd and maybe Ryo taking the mantle as Mr Karate II as a secret boss let Fatal Fury/Mark of the Wolves, World Heroes, Bloody Roar, Virtua Fighter all comeback!!!

I've been waiting so long for the sequel to finally answer some questions.
Please, PLEASE let the Lone Wolf and Cub have the spotlight again some day, SNK. Their characters are wasted as KOF non-entities.
One of my favorite things about this game though is the example it sets for code mastery. This was one of the last games that was released on the original Neo Geo hardware, which had a lifespan of around 15 years when compared to a typical console life of about 5. When you compare just how much more advanced this game is than, say, the original Fatal Fury, you would not be blamed if you believed them to be built for entirely different consoles. It was nearly the difference between the SNES and the Playstation despite the Neo Geo being somewhere between the two (24 bit console, as opposed to the SNES 16 and the Playstation's 32).
The programmers by this point were so familiar with the hardware they could make it do things it was never designed or intended to do, and it really shows here.

I love Garou, and I really wanted to see a sequel because after Rock's ending... Like, I seriously don't know how they could continue after that (maybe making Rock a subboss to Kain? I don't know). Also Terry is my main as always, but I must say I love his voiceclips in this game, they are awesome! xD

The guy in the blue hat is supposed to be Kain's Butler and the girl with the orange pants is Joe Higashi pupil who I think appeared in a KOF Fatal Fury ending. Gato's father was also going to be in the sequel as well

I want soo bad SNK to make a sequel to this MASTERPIECE, I not kidding when I say, Garou it deserve to be in the pantheon of greatest Fighting games ever made, and one of the best sequels or last entry in any series of FG made. The way Garou use their characters and their connections to previous Art of Fighting and Fatal Fury characters is amazing, it pull what STREET FIGHTER III wanted to do but done RIGHT, the issue many of us had with SFIII when first shows up was that there was not a single previous world warrior, but Ken and Ryu, but worse non of the new generations fighters was related in anyway with any of the previous characters (maybe Yun and Yang), and even if their style was nothing like any SF character before.....Garou didn't go that way, many characters are connected to previous fighters in story and in some style, the sons if Kim, the student of Andy, the new Lone Wolf student of Terry, the Karate disciple o Ryo, and then the new comers where so cool and awesome, my favorite been Hotaru....the cutest Fighting game character EVER. Man I hope SNK just listen to their fans, this and Last Blade are 2 franchise they NEED TO BRING BACK.
You were sort of correct at the start there, Fatal Fury did come after Art of Fighting in chronological order, though the first Art of Fighting game was released a year after the firs Fatal Fury game, confusing I know. There probably wound have been a Garou: Mark of the Wolves 2 if SNK did not go bankrupt in 2000, but still a potential sequel could be made in the future, due to the success of some of SNK's recent titles for modern consoles.
Terry's ending in SNK Heroines is really interesting.
It was a dream but some people believe dreams are like visions about the future.
Maybe Terry was dreaming about Rock's future betrayal 🤔
Maybe the plan in Garou 2 was for Terry and Rock to fight each other like Terry vs. Geese.
This was not the first time, even in Maximum Impact series, especially the ONAs had given some emphasis on this aspect.

@@meganinten0078 maybe but its not clear, as far as timelines goes it is its own thing. It might be similar aof/ff timeline but it did gave highlight to certain character moments. So yeah that episode revolving around Rock implied that he turned our fine and both guys stayed together in 2nd south town as Kain was probably overthrown by Duke/Jivatma's criminal syndicate.
@@meganinten0078 Honestly, it can be anything, its a shame Garou 2 was scrapped. The team behind Samurai Showdown 2019 and KOF 14 did state they have considerable ideas for Garou. So yeah...

Dude. Shoryu how could you tease me with that trick at the end! I thought there was a part two of Garou! Ya got me! lol. Yes, Mark of the Wolves is a completely underrated game with some great fighting mechanics. Of course i rocked Khushnood Butt the most just because he played like Takuma, and i loved the way his voice echoed during his super lol. I think this is the game that had that awesome 3 hitter combo from Terry, but i can't remember lol. Of course Rock and Hokutomaru were awesome to play because of the familiarity, but the only character i REALLY sucked at was Gato. For some reason i could not really master that guy lol.
I really wish they would make a part 2 of this game and bring back a lot of the characters they introduced. At the very least, SNK should tap them for a KOF team or two! South Town Team and Second South Town team are 6 right there! Thanks Shoryu for the trip down memory lane!

Has anyone ever really thought of Andy as a ninja? His apprentice and Mai practice the same martial art, but they're all very different from eachother. That being said if Mai had an apprentice in the sequel that would make a great rival for Hokutomaru

Man, this is... I'll always appreciate the KOF games, but not getting to see how the stories in MOTW play out still haunts me to this day.

Excellent video! I love this game, it was new and came to my life in a transitional moment (year 2000 in Argentina). I started playing it again a few months ago and still enjoy it. I am all for stories and plotlines, and I think that most characters here have some unresolved issue related to their past and/or family ties that move them to compete in the event. No, the sequel wasn't almost finished at all, it was around 40%-50% completed when it was cancelled, the CM of SNK and the director of the first Garou confirmed this.

But there’s highly suspicious that Terry and Rock are actually brothers because it’s implied that Terry is actually Geese’s bastard son, they even use the same special move in the first Fatal Fury game.

Fantastic video, I think the depth and strength of the narrative of this game directly contributes to the gameplay and mechanics. It’s almost as though the developers had a clear purpose behind the design decisions. This could be a Netflix series!
I own the original Dreamcast version, but PS4 one is awesome too. This game always stacks up to Street Fighter 3 Third Strike. Love them both.

Garou, to me, is much like Rival Schools is to Capcom. It's that one amazing property that SNK had that was never revisited. Garou had so many amazing characters in its cast. My favorite was easily Dong Hwan, the eldest of Kim sons. His style felt so smooth and responsive. Then there were other characters like Khushnood, Gato, Tizoc and Jae Hoon. It's crazy to realize that it's been 22 years since Garou debuted. And today, it's a timeless and fully functional fighting game that has aged extremely well.
What disappoints me further is the fact that we were supposed to get a sequel. The sequel was apparently going to have a student studying under Joe Higashi as well as Ryo Sakazaki himself!? Honestly, if I were SNK developers, I'd hurl the King of Fighter's time scale into the sun as it doesn't make sense in the state it's currently in anyway. Just start introducing Garou characters if there isn't going to be a sequel to Garou already. We already have Gato, Hotaru, B. Jenet and Tizoc who are part of the King of Fighters canon as well as Rock showing up as a potentially canon/non-canon DLC character in XIV.
I'd personally love to see Joe Higashi's student realized in King of Fighters XV's graphics, as well as other Garou characters like Dong Hwan and Khushnood. SNK absolutely needs to revisit Garou in some way.

They seriously should bring some of these characters back in some SNK game I liked Freeman he kinda felt like Iori with his slash moves and story I liked how he hospitalized Kim Kaphwan leading to his sons wanting revenge on him good rivalry should be followed up on, Kain R Heinlein is interesting as well as Grant whom reminds me a lot of Mr Karate. Kevin was kool I didn’t know he was related to Blue Mary thats rad!! B Jenet is one of my Waifus it was kool for her to return in KOF11. Khushnood Butt was kool maybe we can get a young version of him in KOF15, lol I never pieced Yamazaki destroying his dojo. The story was interesting I feel like Rock canonically defeated Kain and it was left on such a at awe cliffhanger!!! Let us hope that Garou Mark of the Wolves 2 comes to fruition with possibly some Fatal Fury OGs returning like an older Blue Mary, Joe, Andy, Yamazaki, Rick Strowd and maybe Ryo taking the mantle as Mr Karate II as a secret boss let Fatal Fury/Mark of the Wolves, World Heroes, Bloody Roar, Virtua Fighter all comeback!!!
