Trains at: Kettering, MML, 12/10/2020

- An excellent morning spent at Kettering on the Midland Mainline where we see plenty of services from East Midlands Railway and freight from DB Cargo UK and GBRF.
Kettering was opened by the Midland Railway in 1857, when the station was first opened it was actually on a line linking to the Great Northern Railway at Hitchin. The coming of the railway saved Kettering from near total collapse. This is because in 1857 the leather trade in Kettering was in a deep recession as no one wanted to travel the distance by horse and carriage, so with the coming of the railway it then allowed the various businesses in Kettering to utilise the network to start trading their goods further afield which in turn brought much prosperity to the town.
From 1886 to 1959 Kettering was also the terminus of a Cross Country route from Cambridge, but you can thank Dr. Beeching for that route closure, as with many others around the country.
In 1879 the railway was quad tracked to allow for better access with the faster express services needing to go North and South of Kettering without being disrupted by the slower services, that layout is now how the station looks, albeit with a few slight modifications as the years went by. There used to be a two bay engine shed at the northern end of the station which stayed in place until the late 1950's.

Really liked the video! I may be biased as a Kettering local but it is a really good station to go to for some spotting, lots of variety on good days. It’s changed unite a lot since your last visit with the platform extensions, overhead cables and EMR over EMT. It’s a bit annoying how far out the platform announcements for fast trains are, but you get used to timing it after a while lol. Looking forward to the brand new 360 EMU fleet coming in for the Corby services but it will be sad for the HSTs to go. Keep up the good work, looking forward to the next video!
Kettering is a great station to go to certainly, if you get your days right you can get a great amount of variety here. It has certainly changed a hell of a lot since my last visit here but it was still amazing

Ahh my home station. Kettering is great for spotting, hsts, freight from the big 3 daily and often nr test trains and unit moves with Rog traction. Station has some lovely curves to it too

It is soo good to see the old LNER HST's still being used by EMR and I didn't know but also to see the old Hull Trains stock being used by EMR too! Less scrap and everyone gets an upgrade to their stock!
Hopefully the HST will have a long life with EMR, the 222/1 units have been on the MML for quite sometime now
10:25 - I think that the 'dirt' on 222021 is actually thermal discolouration. Notice that you only see it around the exhaust stacks at the car ends.
That's actually a very good analogy of the 'dirt' build up I was talking about, didn't actually think it could be thermal discolouration

I do love the old livery on the EMTs but the new one is just awesome. Great video btw
The old EMT livery does look good but they are coming along nicely with the EMR livery
2:57 WRONG it probably was a limited EMR service from Leeds, Nottingham-Wakefield Westgate isn't electrified so class 43 here we come!

Fantastic video at Kettering station. I am not a fan of the new liveries of the Meridians in purple I like the original EMT colour scene and nice to see the new SWR class 701 and 66780 in the cemex livery. I think you will take that. 👏👍

what's with the electrification is the Midland Mainline with class 360s and class 810s true is that what they are electrifying the line for
The 810s are still under construction, and Greater Anglia haven't retired the 360s yet which means EMR can't run them! Hopefully GA will finally give us the 360's soon so we can get round to retiring those HSTs...

The LNER HST set was on the MML because LNER gave some HSTs to EMR to cover for the gap caused by the delay in the 180s and 810s and the withdrawal of the 2 + 6 HST sets from Grand Central

Since the electrification is almost completed. When is the Class 360/1s cascaded from Greater Anglia due to start service from London St. Pancras to Kettering and Corby. Have you also been to Wellingborough.
No they are getting the ones from TFL. Because, the 345 are replacing them.

In terms of when the trains will be running I'm not to sure, they are operating test trains along the electrified section of the MML so I can't see it being to long now until they start operating for EMR, but time will tell. I haven't been to Wellingborough for over 3 years now

CrossCountry have Voyagers and Super Voyagers which are from the same family as the Meridians👍.
