Me and my mates decided not to go even though it’s on our doorstep it’s an expensive day with the parking. We are saving our money for the smaller shows which we feel at times are better more personal. Glad you enjoyed it.
We were going to do a 'Warley on a showstring' type video... we came up by National Express to Coventry, and then took the train to the NEC on Saturday morning, staying at the 'luxurious' Britannia overnight... maybe next time. But agree - the smaller shows are great. We've just been talking about next year and filming more of the smaller shows across the UK.
Always nice to see how creative the railway modelers are. I like the way you reported on the event. Not just the layouts but also the atmosphere and an important aspect: meeting other people that share your passion. Well done!
@@modelrailwayquest I had not seen it. Now I do. In my region we replace tea / coffee with beer: Orval to be precise. Looking at your video I see there are not many young participants. Over here clubs are aging with their members. Some clubs even disappeared by lack of fresh blood. 20 years ago there were 4 active clubs. Now 2 disappeared, the other two have two or three active members. Are we in a dying hobby? An expensive and exclusive one? I have three boys, none of them picked-up my passion. They find it boring - "has been" - they say there are only older people in this hobby. Nevertheless when I go to exhibitions and have small kids play with a layout made for them, they have fun. Interest vanishes as they grow older, they move on. And it may not come back at all when they become adults. 40 years ago train sets were on top of the XMas presents lists. Now it is not in the catalogs anymore. There is more individualism as well in our culture - we get virtually together... so long for the tea... Also watching videos on trains is easier than working on trains: it provides instant pleasure. Here I am... watching YT while I could work on a layout... I have the ideas not the energy, not the time, not the space... wait... all excuses. Still I don't do it.
@@AlfredBelpaire1820 The number of youngsters at shows has fallen over the years and now you hardly see any teens. It's the same in my local model shop which specialises in model railways but has increased its stock of kits in the last few years to around 50% 50% because they cannot sell enough railway stock. Now prices have gone crazy high and I myself am not buying as much as I used to. I have a huge collection of loco's and stock so now think is it worth paying around £350 for another loco when I can buy a kit for around £80 that will give me more satisfaction building and making a display. On top of that is the cost of a train which can cost a huge amount, the last one I bought being around £600 so you are talking around £1000 these days for a sound loco and train. My main interest is trains and model railways but I have always liked building model kits and think they are still attracting younger people. Sadly I do think model railways are a declining hobby with a few local clubs no longer putting on shows because their aging members are not fit enough to assemble the large layouts they have built.
Lovely video. We had a great day. Had lovely chats with a number of lovely people and spent just a small amount more than I intended. Oh... Collective noun for a group of train vloggers? A TENDER! They follow trains!
Excellent video, and great interview with Paul Jones! Many fab layouts on display, difficult to pick a favourite! Not being pedantic, but it's a Reliant Regal! (the Robin came later - Reliant enthusiasts can get a little upset by this...) Looking forward to some more videos from you soon.
I enjoyed your tour of the show, and was amazed at the Moors View layout. How often do we see snow scenes? Most of us don't even try to depict puddles!
Hi Dawn, great video and good to meet you at the show at the TH-cam meet. Just subbed to your channel , looking forward to your future videos! As I was one of the people stood on the photo I have nothing but only good things to say about a group of railway bloggers 🙈! Cheers Gary
It was my first time. I was up at 3:30am to get there for 9 😂 Looking back I should have got there for about 3, because three to six was a lot quieter (this was on the Saturday) and you could see the layouts and get to the trade stands. But it is expensive and I'm not sure I would go again.
Really like the video Dawn.... This video has a very different perspective on the Warley Show and the Presentation is good. I been to Warley since 2011 (Apart from 2020 and 2021) but the space was the one thing I did notice about this year and honestly the 2023 Model Show was brilliant. Also what didn't help with last year Warley was that there was a Rail Strike on the Saturday and there was no trains to Birmingham International at all but happy there were trains this year to Warley. Also it was nice to meet you at the meet-up.
I remember last year. My initial plan was to catch the train, but I ended up having to drive, all the way from Kent. Managed to take the train this year. Probably a bit more expensive, but a lot less hassle than driving.
@@delboy1727 Last year, I remember that well due to the rail strikes, got a lift to the NEC but I was staying in Coventry for a few days and getting a bus to Coventry was a nightmare, buses were so full that they were skipping Birmingham International. Did managed to get on a bus even know it was full and standing. But did take the train this year as Rugeley where I live has a direct service to Birmingham International and did find it so relaxing, got off the train felt too relaxed
I went to the show on the Sunday, and it wasn't too bad there - I have been there when there have been more crowds! The layouts were great, and there were enough trade and other stands to keep me interested! (Although I didn't buy too much - which pleased my wife!)
I went on the Sunday - found it a bit disappointing. Also, I'm not doing 2 nights again - far too expensive and the NEC Premier Inn is not designed for pedestrian access.
Some mind blowing and creative work by club members .There was only one small Z scale layout that was cased.I saw no Z scale stock sales by traders catered for ........
Good presentation. I have only been here twice, put off by the crowds making it hard to get to see everything, so it is good to see they are making more open space, the years I went I did enjoy the show but have gone to Glasgow's instead where I found it had a lot of high standard layouts to see and enough space to walk between them
Ha! I specifically didn't go to Warley after the miserable crush of last year's show. Now they've spaced it out much more! 🤷♂ Lovely video - just as good as going (probably!). Thank you 👍
Great video, well put together, I must get me a cameraman, it makes it very professional that your in the shots and can do PTC, not that I would! Super to meet you again, just a shame I missed Kathy (a friend of mine) and Carol, see you in 2028! lol
When you can go to similar shows abroad for half the admission price, it shows that someone is ripping off a serious wedge. I never go to these shows. Most people who attend should seriously consider taking a bath.

Me too. Over the years it has become more and more expensive to visit so the local ones are better value for money.

When you see how much public liability insurance and how much local councils try and take off you as a vendor it does justify the price.
Nice summary - and good to catch up briefly on our stand!
Great to see the Class 66s with their decoration!
Great video, looks like an amazing show!

What a fantastic professional presented video!!!! Well done Dawn!!
Thank you Nick!
Being a TV producer helps.
An excellent summary of a great show, well done Dawn, oh and the answer to your question about model railwayers ....very interesting and talented 😊
🤣🤣 Absolutely! Great to meet you Andy - and I have subscribed back!
A delightfully oblique and refreshingly different look at railway modelling..a hobby which is sometimes taken a little too seriously...
Im amazed your into trains, Being a ex railwayman you could definitely have been part of our traincrew take care looks like you had a good day.

Moors View was beautiful - I'm not sure photos or video can do it justice. Paul has managed to create something very special.

After watching many Chadwick Model Railway videos, I had no idea how little Charlie is. More than made up for by a big personality though.
Very true - a lovely man, who is very generous with his time
