    Ordered our 450h+ May 2023 and finally got it in late August 2024. Two months in and love this vehicle. Silent, powerful, versatile, luxurious and very comfortable. We already did a 2000 mile road trip to the left coast and couldn't be happier.
    I shopped all other vehicles in the small-to-mid SUV segment and nothing matches the 450h+ for value. The Lexus PHEVs are all made in Japan too, so top Takumi quality built.
    The same cannot be said of the North American built lower NX models.
    Thanks for the video Matt.

      @@veebee3969 We are getting around 40 US mpg in the city as a hybrid only and about 37 on the highway. A bit less now that winter has hit the Great White North. The EV portion only takes the battery from 100% down to 30%, when the engine kicks in. From then, it acts like any other hybrid Lexus/Toyota.
      It has way more power as a hybrid than on battery only. All 304 HP are available. That said, it is plenty fast in EV mode.

    Unless I didn't studied fully or missed out on something, Lexus plug-in hybrid vehicles don't qualified for any government tax incentives. I own a 2024 NX 450h+ F Sport and dealer already mentioned the car doesn't get any incentives when I bought it. I didn't qualify for any local state/county, or utility company incentives either.

    The automotive landscape has significantly evolved since 2022, and while the Lexus 450h+ offers a solid driving experience, it’s important to recognize that the broader industry has made substantial progress toward fully electric vehicles (EVs). These advancements have left the 450h+ somewhat behind, as it hasn’t kept pace with the shift toward more sustainable, practical solutions for reducing gas dependence and maintenance costs.
    Since 2022, EVs have made major strides in both range and charging infrastructure. Many new electric models now offer significantly longer ranges on a single charge, faster charging times, and a more widespread network of public chargers. As a result, the industry is moving away from plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) and toward fully electric solutions, which provide zero emissions, lower operating costs, and less need for traditional maintenance, such as oil changes, exhaust systems, or gas storage.
    While the 450h+ may still appeal to those seeking a luxury SUV with some electric range, it continues to rely heavily on its internal combustion engine (ICE), which comes with the need for regular maintenance, fuel storage, and fuel costs-elements many EV owners are eager to leave behind. With EVs becoming increasingly available across various segments, it’s worth reconsidering whether a PHEV like the 450h+ is still the most future-proof and practical option in today’s rapidly evolving market. Fully electric vehicles now offer a more seamless driving experience, free from the limitations and compromises of traditional hybrid systems.

    • @MattTheCarguy
      @MattTheCarguy  28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for sharing. In my opinion Toyota/Lexus made the right choice betting on Hybrids vs fully electric. And most manufacturers now are pulling back or scaling down their EV output as they simply dont sell and people are not buying that it is a solution to climate "crisis". IMO Hybrids are the way of the future vehicles.

    • @PercyY-ib2vx

      @@MattTheCarguy Thanks for sharing your thoughts, but I don’t think I’ll be able to change the minds of die-hard Toyota fans who aren’t open to considering other options. However, I think you’re missing a few important points. Many companies are scaling back on EV production because they’re still losing money on every vehicle. But take a look at Tesla-their vehicles are selling like crazy, and I see them everywhere. I’m not sure where you're coming from, but the reality is that EVs are gaining serious traction.
      Yes, EVs are more expensive right now, and automakers are still figuring out how to make them profitable. But as battery costs come down and production scales up, EVs will become much more affordable. The rise of Chinese EVs is forcing global automakers to step up, but relying on tariffs to block competition isn’t a long-term solution. The real focus should be on making EVs more efficient and competitive.
      Toyota’s focus on hybrids makes sense for now, but why continue relying on hybrids, which still depend on an internal combustion engine (ICE), when the future is clearly electric? Hybrids have more moving parts, an ICE that’s not fully utilized, and higher maintenance costs. EVs, on the other hand, have fewer parts, require less upkeep, and benefit from rapidly improving range and charging infrastructure.
      Hybrids may have a place today, but EVs are undeniably the future. The market is already shifting, and even Toyota will have to catch up. Why stick with an outdated, complex solution when fully electric is not only viable but more efficient and sustainable? Personally, I switched from a 2022 Lexus NX350H to a Genesis GV60 because Toyota didn’t offer me any electric options to upgrade to. They’ve put too much focus on hydrogen cars, which aren’t feasible for decades, and now they’re being left behind by other companies.

    • @MattTheCarguy
      @MattTheCarguy  27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @PercyY-ib2vx call me old fashion but EV to me is a nice accesory and may find a place in my garage as such, but nothing beats sound and feel of a nice and powerful ICE.
      There is no infrastructure for EVs currently, range needs huge improvement and nobody has 45 minutes to wait for their battery to charge ( if there is no line by chargers)
      And where is the electricity coming from? 82% of US electricity still comes from fossil fuels. Not to mention lithium and cobalt mining and its devastating impact on environment. Most of it os mined in Australia, China and Chile and shipped around the world using diesel power frrighters and trains. I think we have a long way to go before a reliable, environmentaly friendly electric vehicle is mass produced. And that will cost a fortune. As much as I like Elon, Tesla produces cheap, poor quality, zero excitement vehicles. The reason they can be profitable is using same components across models, keeping the same styling for years and cutting on quality.
      I actually like the GV60 so I think you made a good choice but as a whole much prefer the tradotional ice or hybrids.

    • @PercyY-ib2vx
      @PercyY-ib2vx 27 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@MattTheCarguy As I’ve mentioned, I understand I’ll never change the mind of a loyal Lexus customer-that’s just the way it is. That said, I respect your perspective and understand the attraction of a powerful internal combustion engine (ICE). When it comes to Tesla, I completely agree that their interior feels cheap. I personally prefer driving a luxurious car over one that feels more like a computer on wheels, which is why I chose the Genesis GV60, despite its higher price tag compared to Tesla.
      Since switching to electric, my concerns about charging stations have been put to rest. I’ve found Level 2 charging to be more than enough, and I no longer need to stop at gas stations. The EV infrastructure is already well-established and continuing to grow, with ongoing investments in both charging networks and faster solutions.
      While fossil fuels still make up a large portion of energy production, renewable sources like solar, wind, and hydroelectric power are rapidly expanding. In many areas, EVs are already being charged using clean energy, and the transition is happening faster than most realize.
      Concerns about lithium and cobalt mining are valid, but the industry is working hard to improve sourcing practices and invest in recycling technologies. Over their entire lifecycle, EVs have a much smaller carbon footprint than ICE vehicles, especially when considering the ongoing emissions from gasoline-powered cars.
      My point is the trend toward electric vehicles, while not perfect, is narrowing the gap, and it’s clear the future is heading in that direction. On the other hand, Toyota’s focus on hydrogen cars, despite the progress in EVs, seems increasingly doubtful. Their resources might be better spent on the future of electric mobility.
