Channeling Coltrane like no one else at 2:00. If there's anything the man tells us it's that jazz was over with Coltrane and Shorter, and Coltrane was the peak. It's bitter and sweet to be told so well, and it's a great deal to be the one with whom jazz will die.
He is one of the few jazz saxofone players that uses arabic scales, like the shephardic jews musicians. The other one is Dave Liebman. This guy is really great and different!
Wow been a year since I posted that? Doesn't seem like it! OK, now I recognize this song but I don't know the name of it. It is an awesome performance of it, but the head of the song is embellished so much I'm having a hard time hearing it, but I don't know the name, I've heard it before, I think in a movie as well. I'll figure it out and post it here, maybe next year LMAO
First time I ever saw KG was on Night Music with David Sanborn (also called "Sunday Night"?? when it started, was on late Sunday nights around 10pm CST). He was on with Miles and I came back to that performance maybe 15~20 years ago (man I feel old LOL) on TH-cam and was amazed at KG's performance. He had a real muffled sound in contrast to Sanborn, but had some killer licks. I love how he half steps up and just holds long notes out of key, just so cool!!!!!
Baby now on that saxophone. Oh lord have mercy. Giving me chills
Kenny Garrett is "The Man"...His playing is flawless...I get lost in his skillful melodic performances...
That wonderful tone…..unmistakably Kenny…..genius!
The tune is "We'll be Together Again"
Thanks. Couldn't quite work it out till your comment came up.
I saw Kenny Playing with Miles Davis in Detroit At the Chene park ,renamed Aretha , he gave the best solo that I ever heard ,He stole the show.
First time I saw Kenny Garrett's band in Detroit in 2015 at Orchestra Hall it changed my entire perspective on music
