Michael Philip Mossman, trumpet; Kenny Garrett, alto sax; Ralph Bowen, tenor sax; Harry Pickens, piano; Kenny Davis, bass; Ralph Peterson, drums. Mt. Fuji Jazz Festival, Japan, August 31, 1986
KG listened careffuly to the tenor sax solo and repeated the lick played for Bowen between 3:39 and 3:46. He played this between 5:54 and 5:59 of this video. He repeated the lick a little bit different, but it's still there! He chose it and put it in his solo. This guy is really great!
BTW the groups name is OTB (Out of The Blue). This tunes name is Nathan Jones which I believe is composed by Ralph Bowen. It's Kenny Garrett on Alto, Michael Phillip Mossman on Trumpet, and Ralph Bowen on Tenor, Harry Pickens on Piano, Ralph Peterson on Drum-set, and Kenny Davis on Bass.
Man, what a energy blast from Kenny Garret, the thing i like most at him is that he really knows when to push and with the propper intension. Really in my opinion the most influential and great master of the alto saxophone from Canonball Adderley ever since. This is pure gold.
i dont mean to be off topic but does anybody know a trick to get back into an instagram account..? I stupidly lost the login password. I love any tips you can give me.
Ralph Peterson -- a hell of a player! Always on fire! And Ralph Bowen -- mein Got!!! And Kenny -- already a star! MPM -- jizaz! What a group of youg lions!!!
Freddie Hubbard is the trumpet players idol! Brecker,Trane and Joe Henderson the Tenor sax cat's idols! Garrett's idols include many but I hear his own voice and stories! KG didnt get a music snob degree or go to an"approved" school for Jazz, instead the bandstands with greats.
I not going to mention it because I know someone will come behind me and change it out of spite but look under the views number and see something awesome.
Kenny Garrett, Ralph Bowen, Michael Philip Mossman on trumpet; Harry Pickens on piano;; Kenny Davis on bass; Ralph Peterson Jr. on drums. This was released on OTB's second album, Live at Mount Fuji.
Anyone have the full video of this performance!!! IT IS NOT AVAILABLE ANYWHERE ON THE INTERNET. One video was posted a couple of months ago but has since been deleted :( They all come out in sunglasses and the whole thing is unbelievable. Please 🙏 anyone track down this footage if possible
Great performance, and all but KG are new to me. But @dougi, please come back and edit the description to include the personnel, performance info, etc.

Kenny Garrett is fantastic player.
OTB Live at Mt. Fuji! The track where Ralph and Kenny trade is ridiculous. Ralph Peterson keeping fire under them.

Tenor player reminds me a bit of Wayne on "Angola"

only person i could pick out besides kenny was the tenor player. looks to be a young Ralph Bowen

7:43 is the lick
The tenor saxophonist plays like Michael Brecker!
Brecker named him in an interview in regards to his inspirations. Ralph Bowen is a treasure
Justin Trudeau is good at tenor!
Around 6.40 Garrett stopped having musical ideas, should have finished there.
you're an idiot
This dude here......
You don’t know what you’re talking about
Hellen keller would disagree.
Yes we're all glad to hear you somehow knew exactly what was going on in his head throughout his solo 🙄
Kenny Garrett style is boring. Very boring.
