jmporkbob I still enjoy the way that when Egg went to Kate's parents' house for a culturally important holiday and received free food and money as a thoughtful and kind gift, he described it as "good labor cost"
15:06 NL, you don't need to get your mechs off tiles that're going to experience tides, because they have the "massive" trait and aren't harmed by water. To be fair to you, I found that one a little counter intuitive as well.
Lots of people are mentioning the tidal wave thing. To be fair, "walk your giant, outrageously heavy, electronically-based war machine into the water, it'll be fiiiiine!" is not a very intuitive conclusion.
Misplays, okay they are hilarious. It is when he starts explaining about his "genius" how smart he is at this game, and his thought process that drives me insane. Those 3 words I think he should be banned from.
The best part of that was when he pushed an enemy so that they attack a building that would've been safe otherwise, which kinda just negates the simple strategy that was used.
8:25 WTF, did NL turned off the unit still have moves confirmation? He already missed a chance to heal his tank that turn. Yes, in this scenario, no enemy attacked the tank, but that one extra heal could be critical. 11:35 For once, can't blame NL here, the shot indicator looks wrong because multiple attacks.
NL: "I will show you how much I improved" Also NL: "I made a grave mistake" Classic NL. The first step in improving is knowing your mistakes. XD But seriously you are doing fine for starting and im glad you take your time over rush. Even if I think some the plays are obvious. Also its good to see how postive you are. Keep being the NL I love.
Thanks for putting in the extra effort to improve your gameplay, NL. I commend you on your work ethic and appreciate how much content you put out. I know fewer people watch them, but I still very much appreciate you uploading the Twitch VODs to TH-cam just so I can keep everything in one place. I know it's not much, but I disabled my adblocker for your channel and watch through the ads in hopes that it'll help in some small way. Thanks a ton.
I find the defend the train mission to be really damn annoying. Mostly it's the individual mission type and the map layout of a game that determines if you've got a cakewalk or a nightmare on your hands.
Winning a run with only 2 islands complete isn't that hard, I won my 1st run ever with a 2 island victory. The final mission is not too difficult, it's usually other missions that wind up killing a run ones that are generally more difficult are defend the train, don't kill the volatile Vek, one of the bosses, and I've heard some of the frozen islands missions can be pretty tough. I think defeating the game with 4 islands complete is harder, but ya generally unlock a lot of stuff for at least doing it once (all of the challenge run achievements require finishing 3 islands). I think watching NL try to play the Zenith Guard Squad could be quite interesting, they are 1 of the hardest squads to use, and they are probably also the squad most people disagree on weather they are good or not, some think they are grt (probably because of their dmg output) and some think they are near the bottom of the list.
You've improved a lot from the last 3 episodes, NL! Still a little hasty in your decisions, which are causing some damage to your squad's evolution, although they can be corrected very easily: 1) Before you commit to your first plan, move around all the mechs in the positions of your choice without attacking anything, just so you can better visualize your ideas. I find especially helpful to drag the mouse through the lines of fire to give me extra direction. 2) Pass the mouse above every unity, tile and enemy (holding CTRL) so you can see what all of them are gonna do to each other in this position. 3) Make sure to do the math and imagine how everything is gonna move and create a chain reaction. 4) If it doesn't work out, you can undo all your moves and map it out a new plan before executing your turn and losing the precious "Reset Turn". Also, new and better plays will probably pop-up in your vision after moving your squad around. Sometimes you'll have to make sacrifices like losing some Power Grid, but most of the times there is a ingenious solution just waiting to be discovered. Gotta give credit to watching ChristopherOdd playthrough. It helped me better organize this way and see the board in a more clear manner. Hope it helps.
"Hm. I see, so I have an enemy that does 1 damage to me or an enemy that does 4 damage. Guess I'll get rid of the guy who does 1 damage and take the 4." I realise it was the last turn so it didn't matter but still.
Your first mission this episode still had mistakes, but was probably the single best run you've ever completed in either this game or slay the spire. Dramatic improvement. Keep it up egg.
So in the turn around the 15 minute mark, there was another perfect solution. I think you can figure it out if I remind you that your mechs are taller than the sea is deep.
I don't personally play the game, so ultimate back-seating advice right here, but I'm pretty sure if you left a mech in a tidal wave square, it doesn't get destroyed or take damage. Technically the game only says that the tile becomes water, so it's killing off ground-based Veck, but your mechs can stand just fine in water tiles, they just cant shoot while occupying one.
Yo NL, it's useful to move your mechs first as moves can always be undone without requiring a reset. That way you can visualise attacks much easier especially on later islands when the combat gets more complex.
Okay, I swear that whenever I stop watching an episode, and then come back to it, the prospective changes.... It's really fucking with me because I know it hasnt
"I'm getting better!" >loses 1 grid immediately on easy first mission >loses another grid on 2nd mission while congratulating himself on shrewd play This guy... :D
Eyyy some noice plays this ep NL. Glad you're really enjoying the game, and you're already getting a lot better(I haven't caught up to the latest eps yet)
30:18 “we can always reset our turn since we didnt use it.” Stay the way you are nl, we all love you. But pls check the reset used button thats not highlighted anymore :P
Bahahaha. I fucking love when NL gets cocky and doesnt pay attention. The move 12 minutes in was hilarious. "Now we're thinking with strategy". Unlike most of you who get extremely upset over a mistake, I enjoy it and get a good laugh out of them.
Nl when a mech doesnt attack u can repair 1 hp with it by clicking on the wrench. Say you are blocking a spawn then u can repair and heal the lost health. It doesnt cost anything either.
Good, but the tank on the first round could've killed the artillery bug on two different occasions really easily without compromising your secondary objective (most notably moving your tank across at 8:20 so your other mech could block the spawn; if you moved him one tile less he could've shot the bug into the mountain and still blocked a spawn). edit: i take back my good, he overthought himself dealing with *one enemy* into taking building damage.
Can you believe what he did on turn 75? Instead of killing the boss by taking all their HP away you could've killed the boss by pushing them into the water and preserved an extra machine part.
8:30 ended turn without repair damage 15:11 scared of water damage to mechs who are immune... NL. Take your time with this game, you're rushing and messing up
What are everyone's favourite squads? Mine's blitzkrieg and zenith guard so far. Flame behemoths and steel whatevers especially seem a little weak, unless I am just still a noob which could be true. Still gotta' unlock the smoke guys and the hazard guys.
I think egg is obsessing over Matt Damon too much, it's the second reference that I've got - there were probably hundreds. Fortunately, your boy's wicked smart so it's he's probably forgiven. Silly egg
Man, so many misplays just in the first combat. The artillery bug near the mountains at 8:00 for example? you could have killed it and still blocked a spawn if you'd just moved your tank one space to the left and shot him into the mountain. Then you could have at least used the artillery to do 1 damage to the firefly.
There were some real excellent plays in this, don't sell this egg short. Yeah, he let that building be shot, and he's afraid of water, but everything else? It's at LEAST 350 IQ.
You should have punched the firefly at 14:15 instead of leaving it to block the spawn, that way there would have been enough enemies for you to potentially kill 7 and earn that all important reputation.
Into the Breach - Northernlion Plays - *Episode 5*
[ ] Truth
[X] Doubt
[ ] Lie
-Thanks for the company- ✓
Tinted rocks have been discovered in Into the Breach. NL is doomed.
Missed a tinted mountain.
smh
"Let's use different colors so we can tell them apart more easily"
Proceeds to make them all the same color. Egg y.
i took it as a poor way to say "to give them some character and set them apart from the default mechs", but i guess you can never tell with egg.
jmporkbob I still enjoy the way that when Egg went to Kate's parents' house for a culturally important holiday and received free food and money as a thoughtful and kind gift, he described it as "good labor cost"
Tell them apart from the enemies maybe?? Even though a ton of enemies are blue?? Who knows lmao
The man had TWO COLORS UNLOCKED
He put the melee on the frontline. It's a new era boys. It's a new freaking universe
15:06 NL, you don't need to get your mechs off tiles that're going to experience tides, because they have the "massive" trait and aren't harmed by water. To be fair to you, I found that one a little counter intuitive as well.
It makes sense that the mechs are immune to water, but for me, I thought that the tides themselves would destroy them.
NL please turn the warning back on when you end turn with moves remaining, you missed so many plays because you were just ending without thinking
PibsterPewPew Slay the spire all over again.
I think it's good to keep the warning for misclicks too, can screw up your whole run if you hit that button by accident
Bump
1/3
Yeah, I recently found out that it's hotkeyed to like, space or something, so... confirm is kinda nice.
Mechs can stand in water NL. As long as they have the giant property, wich most of them have. They just can't shoot as long as they stay in it....
*massive
Yeah I didn't check the exact name, but it's a mountain symbol. Thanks XD
there is no mech that cannot stand in the water
How can he not know this by now?
He just didn't listen to the tutorial tips or read the the effects in the corner
I had such high hopes after the intro but he still thinks water kills his mechs. What is this? Slay The Spire Episode 100?
Series only started a few days ago and he's already on episode 45. Gj Egg!
Lots of people are mentioning the tidal wave thing. To be fair, "walk your giant, outrageously heavy, electronically-based war machine into the water, it'll be fiiiiine!" is not a very intuitive conclusion.
Pacific rim came before this game.
"Let me show you I'm not bad!" - Proceeds to be baaaaad
It's a pleasant surprise to see the comments filled not with absolute cancer about NL's misplays, but with shittalking him for mislabeling the video.
Misplays, okay they are hilarious.
It is when he starts explaining about his "genius" how smart he is at this game, and his thought process that drives me insane.
Those 3 words I think he should be banned from.
Ends turn 1 without attacking... It's slay the spire all over end.
12:03 absolutely beautiful
+John Ryan "It's working, it's working!"
The best part of that was when he pushed an enemy so that they attack a building that would've been safe otherwise, which kinda just negates the simple strategy that was used.
Loc-localised bre-breach succesful. Calibrating system echo. We have travelled back [ONE] episode.
What i would give to unsee your profile picture
And username..... fuck.
lmao "Now we're thinking with strategy" *building blows up* 12:04
8:25 WTF, did NL turned off the unit still have moves confirmation? He already missed a chance to heal his tank that turn.
Yes, in this scenario, no enemy attacked the tank, but that one extra heal could be critical.
11:35 For once, can't blame NL here, the shot indicator looks wrong because multiple attacks.
he turned it off at the beginning of episode 1 on like the first one that popped out because he's an egg
Cooldrew100 yeah, I went and checked. Apparently, his XCOM skills will be sufficient. XD
RYAN
*READ THE ABILITIES BEFORE USING THEM*
ryab reading anything LUL
Next you'll expect math.
But he is smarter than he thought he was. He makes it look like a genius and thinking with strategy.
NL: "I will show you how much I improved"

What the hell is this, a positive comment on a Northernlion video?! Get the fuck out of here.
Let's actually go!
Did I miss episode 4
Adam McNassor na just miss named
it is from the FUTURE
avikdas 99 😂🤔
Adam McNg
Now we're thinking with strategy!
Whenever I see an obvious move he doesn’t see I feel physical pain in my chest
NL place your mechs (besides artillery) in the closest to the enemy as possible or to defend areas you think they're gonna attack.
Put artillery in the middle tile as far back as possible for most maneuverability
Place it where it has room u fool
Blitzkrieg mech squad is my favourite. Chaining mechs and buildings and mass killing vek is amazing.
tidal wave doesn't kill you
Good old egg, guaranteed to miss name the title atleast once in every series.
The next one too. I was wondering why TH-cam was suggesting I jump an episode.
I refuse to belive that he won a run
Void Phoenix it's actually not that hard to win a run after 2 islands. Last mission is like a slightly harder island 2 boss mission.
The final mission is a cakewalk in general, and two islands is not that hard, very believable.
I find the defend the train mission to be really damn annoying. Mostly it's the individual mission type and the map layout of a game that determines if you've got a cakewalk or a nightmare on your hands.

It's like watching a raging bonobo perform surgery. :D A tragic, yet painfully entertaining process in which the people being saved nearly all die!
"Hm. I see, so I have an enemy that does 1 damage to me or an enemy that does 4 damage. Guess I'll get rid of the guy who does 1 damage and take the 4."
I realise it was the last turn so it didn't matter but still.
SSJ NL. Let's Go!
After coming out of the hyperbolic time chamber, NL and his sons ready up to take on the evil Neks and save Earth once again.
Your first mission this episode still had mistakes, but was probably the single best run you've ever completed in either this game or slay the spire. Dramatic improvement. Keep it up egg.

Technically the game only says that the tile becomes water, so it's killing off ground-based Veck, but your mechs can stand just fine in water tiles, they just cant shoot while occupying one.
I’ve never screamed while watching a man shoot the goo, but egg daddy makes it hurt so good
Yo NL, it's useful to move your mechs first as moves can always be undone without requiring a reset. That way you can visualise attacks much easier especially on later islands when the combat gets more complex.
Man, there has been a substantial improvement. Good on ya, Ryan!
NL you have mastered the art of Enragertainment.
That last mission is such a trip. Pushing away a one damage enemy to let the 4 damage enemy hit you 😭
Okay, I swear that whenever I stop watching an episode, and then come back to it, the prospective changes.... It's really fucking with me because I know it hasnt
6:35 So because he turned off that "end turn" popup, he didn't shoot with the "cannon" :)
Next turn didn't heal. Next battle pushes scorpion to hit a building. And he really is much better! :D
Water doesn't kill you by the way it only stops you from attacking just in case you didn't know that
"I'm getting better!"
>loses 1 grid immediately on easy first mission
>loses another grid on 2nd mission while congratulating himself on shrewd play
This guy... :D
The location of episode 4 will go on to be one of the greatest mysteries of the world.
Eyyy some noice plays this ep NL. Glad you're really enjoying the game, and you're already getting a lot better(I haven't caught up to the latest eps yet)
Your mechs don't die in the water or a tidal wave.
Water doesn't kill your mechs, so the tidal wave actually doesn't hurt you, you can just stand on the yellow squares.
30:18 “we can always reset our turn since we didnt use it.” Stay the way you are nl, we all love you. But pls check the reset used button thats not highlighted anymore :P
At 15:14 - Tidal wave areas just dump your mechs into the water, doing nothing but mean they can't attack until they get out of the water
When does the hurting stop?
JsnVrhs46 when u embrace masochism
Alternatively you can stop watching for instant gratification.
thank you so much for saving us that 3-5 hours off cam i really appreciate it
Bahahaha. I fucking love when NL gets cocky and doesnt pay attention. The move 12 minutes in was hilarious. "Now we're thinking with strategy". Unlike most of you who get extremely upset over a mistake, I enjoy it and get a good laugh out of them.
Offcam is short for officer Campbell
Tip put your prime mechs closest to the enemy and your artilery the farthest
Nl when a mech doesnt attack u can repair 1 hp with it by clicking on the wrench. Say you are blocking a spawn then u can repair and heal the lost health. It doesnt cost anything either.
"Now we're thinking with strategy!" *Building dies* "..."
That needless grid damage at 12:08 got me right tense. 75 lives lost because our boy NL wasn't paying attention.
NL is getting better, but he should really not block too many spawns on the first 2 islands. The XP you get from the extra kills is very valuable.
Tides don't kill your mechs, you can swim.
Mechs and any other massive unit can survive the Tidal Wave effect
"Seems to not be that bad until you remember.... *it is that bad* "
my life
Northernlion could have done a perfect end with that boss mission
Can you believe what he did on turn 75? Instead of killing the boss by taking all their HP away you could've killed the boss by pushing them into the water and preserved an extra machine part.
Thanks for the company
this is episode 4 not 5 you silly egg
didnt he name it episode 5 cuz he didnt record the 4th one?
ive been playing as the hazardous mechs they're real fun
"The time you invested in the last campaign." Oh, NL, my time isn't worth anything, but thanks for assuming that it is. Very kind of you.
"Hey guys I've discovered turn order"
*Proceeds to overthink turn orders*
just a hint it's a good idea to check the enemy attack order more often there are many plays you missed where you could of had them kill each other.
Offcam? Is NL a secret camgirl in his free time?
You forget that your mechs don't die from the tidal wave, they can stand in water
I played 2 days , unlocked 3 mech platoons , best being the acid one , but still couldn't reach the final island
8:30 ended turn without repair damage
15:11 scared of water damage to mechs who are immune...
Oh God. PLEASE tell me the plays get better in the later episodes? This is killing my soul
well he's definitely better now. not quite good yet, but much improvement
I think egg is obsessing over Matt Damon too much, it's the second reference that I've got - there were probably hundreds.
Fortunately, your boy's wicked smart so it's he's probably forgiven. Silly egg
"Let's start thinking about this logically" *immediately counts units attacking a building wrong*
Holy shit he even misplays profiles.
I understand a hot 50 others already said this, but mechs can stand in water!
There comes a point in a good NL playthru when u have yelled at egg enough that you have to buy the game just to resolve the ire of bad moves
He MISSED the opportunity to name the dood MALF karlsson
Good plays Egg
Man, so many misplays just in the first combat. The artillery bug near the mountains at 8:00 for example? you could have killed it and still blocked a spawn if you'd just moved your tank one space to the left and shot him into the mountain. Then you could have at least used the artillery to do 1 damage to the firefly.
your mech wouldn't have died to the tidal wave I don't believe, because they have the massive perk, he'd just be sitting in the water
i come here to feel i am actually a master of this game. (praise the Egg!)
Dude he has ascended to 4000 IQ, very proud
More like 40
By way of underflow?
There were some real excellent plays in this, don't sell this egg short. Yeah, he let that building be shot, and he's afraid of water, but everything else? It's at LEAST 350 IQ.
My Sarcasm sense is tingling.
This episode should be called “I want this guy to shoot this goo”
"Different colours so we can tell them apart more easily"
Makes them all blue.
Maybe you need a cleave to hit all those enemies at once :)
two ep a day pls!
You should have punched the firefly at 14:15 instead of leaving it to block the spawn, that way there would have been enough enemies for you to potentially kill 7 and earn that all important reputation.
NL you may want to try and spread out you drop so you don't get bottlenecked and are forced to sack tons of power
Tou may want to not block spawn when that means there will be too few enemies to kill for an objective on the final round
I'm so glad he didn't make a giant backlog before learning the game like slay the spire. He's actually a (demi)god now
if NL's a demigod my 5 year old cousin is supreme overlord of the universe
No. But he has gone from Kindergarten to 5th grade in skill level over the course of 1 video, which is pretty impressive.
actually strimmer its radii
