  • In November 2010 I bought a AT-AT from Amazon.com - it was the start of a weird obsession of creating Star Wars dioramas that fit in my book shelf. This is the first one I made, complete with noob errors and such. Still it is so large it kind of cool anyway :)
For Swedish readers; se more about how I made it in the following links:

Thanks - there are many things I would do differently today, but I'm still quite pleased with the results. Especially the fact that I fit everything in top of a bookshelf :)

That's a lovely diorama you have made. I love the detail. And the dead hoth soldier. Nice work.

I used a kind of snow paint that are only being sold during Christmas. It behaves a bit like spackle, but is not as hard. Very useful also for creating sand effects on Tatooine; you would of course have to paint it afterwards, though.

That is one awesome diorama, pretty cool that you used Christmas snow, I had never thought of that. Did you use the canned snow for the vehicles and turret as well or did you use spackle?

Wow, sorry for the late answer - I made snow out of regular styrofoam that I cut with a hot wire, specially made for cutting styrofoam. Those can be bought in most hobby stores (is that an English word...?)
Then I applied a snow paint that is common during Christmas times, search on Google for "panduro snow paint" to see what I used. I applied this in several layers and probably used around three cans for this particular diorama.

I use a special snowpaint that is being sold in some stores in November, right before Xmas. I painted on styrofoam that was cut by special cutter with a hot metal thread that cuts into the styrofoam like butter. I also made footprints and such with an old soldering iron. Basically, you can do whatever you want with styrofoam if you heat it up - but beware, the fumes are toxic so keep small children away and your windows open all the time you do it. In some areas I actually bought and used snow spray that is sold in stores that sell stuff for trainmodels, but that is quite expensive so try to use it less often.

It's carved out of styrofoam; regular styrofoam blocks that are meant for construction.

Thanks, this was my first diorama and I really had no clue of how to make it :) The actual challenge was to fit it on the top of my shelf, since that was a requirement if I am gonna fit it at all in our home.
Since then I've made more dioramas with light and sound, but my time is limited so I proceed quite slowly. I blog a little about it, in Swedish only though: spelpappan.se/category/diorama/

I found an image online and scaled it to the correct size and then let an online printer here in Sweden print it out on some kind of vinyl. Worked really well, you don't see it upclose anyway.
Here's a smaller version of the image I used: media.spelpappan.se/2011/05/hoth_bakgrund.jpg

Where can we buy the figurine ?

    • @spelpappan
      @spelpappan  10 ปีที่แล้ว

Which one? Most of them come from the 2010 collection and all vehicles are painted afterwards.

Snowtroopers and rebels I got from eBay, they were sold in chunks of 5 rather than one at a time. The ATAT I found on Amazon: www.amazon.com/Imperial-Terrain-Armored-Transport-Vehicle/dp/B0039X06OU/
The two laser cannons come together with a few figurines in one pack: www.amazon.com/Exclusive-Deluxe-Defense-AntiVehicle-Troopers/dp/B0047CRW8A/
And so does the ATST: www.amazon.co.uk/Star-Wars-Attack-Hoth-AT-ST/dp/B00624MTIE
