Ni-MH batteries 🔋 are way more stable for hot/cold conditions and don’t catastrophically burn/ explode if damaged like Lithium. Ni-MH sacrifices energy density however.
I remember when everything (digital cameras, camcorders, etc) came with NiMH batteries, but that seems to be the way of the wayside for almost a decade now. Good to know.
Been hunting TacSwap and Ebay for a minute and having a hard time finding tubes for a decent price. What do I look for to find the regular sellers you mentioned. Like which "locations"?
I hate to say it but I've fallen and eaten shit more times than I can count with nods. One time I broke the damn Knights forward grip off my SAW after busting my ass, but my nods were good!
Ask the seller for LOTS of pictures. Cross reference the serial/part numbers if a label is present. Inspect the pigtail for bent or missing pins. Good luck.
This guys correct we had weapons and all types of equipment in 2017 that was pre iraq still being used. We made good use of it and were expected to train, deploy and kill the enemy with 20 plus year old shit. Take care of you gear and itll take care of you, even if its old worn crusty and beat treat it as if its new.
WRT the scratched intensifier: is this something that could potentially be repaired? I don't know if the lens is coated on the outside or not. If it's bare glass, then a very cheap, damaged intensifier could be worth attempting a repair. If it isn't bare glass, please let me know... I couldn't find any info on the specific construction of the intensifiers.
No. Some minor blems can be removed by "black boxing" but anything that has a line/scratch like the one in the video cannot be repaired. The "line" was most likely caused by someone leaving their 14 outside in the daylight. Even if the unit is not powered on it if the objective lens is pointed towards the sun it will damage the tube. The line is most likely the sun's path after being exposed for an hour or so.
Between 10000-15000 hours. From what I have seen tube manufacturers put a 3 year "warranty" date on these, but that doesn't mean its not good past the "expiration" date. Some guys are using 20+ year old tubes with no issues.
Whoaaahh this is pretty legit and like you said, it’s not even that complicated. I would totally have you build one for me if that’s something you don’t mind doing. I don’t have argon, some of the tools, and the knowledge of some of the spots to source the parts or even the little shit to look for on the parts themselves. The scariest part for me would be finding the parts. Paranoid I’ll fuck my shit up. So if you’re willing to do so, tell me where to reach out so I can be a nocturnal poor. 🤙🏼🤙🏼
I've never seen a knock off intensifier. Now there are US vs Chinese made lenses for the 14, I've handled both and prefer the US (Carson) ones. Really more knock off BS to be found with the NV mounting systems.
Saving this video! Great info and just a thought, possible side hustle...parts plus a couple hundos and you got a sweet extra income...I'd pay 200$ for your time and energy! 11B 91-98...Iowa Guard...Great video
So when you were talking about an IR light, do you mean an external one? Forgive my ignorance, but I thought PVS-14s were gen 2 or gen 3, which don’t use an IR light.
"This night vision scope is waterproof to 66 feet for one hour, and features multi coated optics". I was stationed near Seattle for years using PVS14s and 15s, you won't have a problem with them. The reason for the Nitrogen/Argon purge is to keep moisture out to prevent the lenses from fogging up.
If you leave alkaline batteries in the unit and forget about it you'll have a bad time. Use lithiums when available and always remove batteries when storing nods. I've cleaned too many battery compartments of exploded costco batteries because a dumb boot left batteries in his PVS14.

Or you could try putting in some effort. I got six intensifiers sitting behind me that I purchased in the last month.

Great video the only thing i didnt like @20:28 there was an unskippable 15 second ad followed by another unskippable 6 second ad totaling of 22 second wait is YT even worth watching anymore?
I can't control when and how long the ads are, but every ad does throw a little extra my way so I can continue to buy more shit and make more videos. Thanks for watching!
Just don't purge them with helium.
It will diffuse through the glass and ruin the tube.
Been hunting TacSwap and Ebay for a minute and having a hard time finding tubes for a decent price. What do I look for to find the regular sellers you mentioned. Like which "locations"?
Great video, it's nice to have detailed instructions
Rad. I have babied my PVS-14 but after watching this and seeing the guts of the thing I think it can definitely take a lot more abuse.
I hate to say it but I've fallen and eaten shit more times than I can count with nods. One time I broke the damn Knights forward grip off my SAW after busting my ass, but my nods were good!
@@angryasianfab HAHA Hell Ya!
loved this, mate
Good vid! Though I would like to have seen some hints on things to watch out for when buying the intensifier.
Ask the seller for LOTS of pictures. Cross reference the serial/part numbers if a label is present. Inspect the pigtail for bent or missing pins. Good luck.
Sweet definitely going to check into this
Nice one buddy. I see great things in your TH-cam future
Can I be in the next Avatar movie? J/K, thanks for the love!
@Angry Asian Fabrication sure I'll set you up as blue monkey 97
Night vision retailers hate him!
Bro ur a bad ass .I wish I would have joined the service so badly
"Chances are, you're a cheap bastard like I am"
Subbed.
Welcome fellow cheap bastard!
Good job on a good video
This guy is hilarious😂😂😂
Fantastic video man. I appreciate the info!
This guys correct we had weapons and all types of equipment in 2017 that was pre iraq still being used. We made good use of it and were expected to train, deploy and kill the enemy with 20 plus year old shit. Take care of you gear and itll take care of you, even if its old worn crusty and beat treat it as if its new.
great tutorial and stories/experience!
thanks for the vid good to know how these work
Have you considered 3D printing your own enclosure?
No, only because I'm not a 3D printer guy (yet).
@@angryasianfab That makes much more sense. Thanks for clearing that up.
What is the lifespan of these image intensifiers? Not the "expiration date" but the number of hours of use before they burn out?
Between 10000-15000 hours. From what I have seen tube manufacturers put a 3 year "warranty" date on these, but that doesn't mean its not good past the "expiration" date. Some guys are using 20+ year old tubes with no issues.
@@angryasianfab cool, thanks!
AWESOME VIDEO I LOVE THIS VIDEO
Whoaaahh this is pretty legit and like you said, it’s not even that complicated. I would totally have you build one for me if that’s something you don’t mind doing. I don’t have argon, some of the tools, and the knowledge of some of the spots to source the parts or even the little shit to look for on the parts themselves. The scariest part for me would be finding the parts. Paranoid I’ll fuck my shit up. So if you’re willing to do so, tell me where to reach out so I can be a nocturnal poor. 🤙🏼🤙🏼

Is the market saturated with knock off parts?

Yes, the external IR light. MX11769s are Gen3.
how the fuck do you only have 121 subs??? this is good shit
Haha I just started the channel a month ago! Thanks for the feedback, stay tuned for some more fun shit!
I really want to build one, this is an amazing video, but how weather proof is that housing and unit? I worry about moisture getting in
"This night vision scope is waterproof to 66 feet for one hour, and features multi coated optics". I was stationed near Seattle for years using PVS14s and 15s, you won't have a problem with them. The reason for the Nitrogen/Argon purge is to keep moisture out to prevent the lenses from fogging up.
Hello there and thanks for the video, any idea if the housing kit will work with a gen II tube? Thanks
Yes it should work with any GEN MX11769 or MX10160 tube.
@@angryasianfab much appreciated, thanks
