- I did it! I slept in my Tesla Model 3 for two nights in the desert. How did I sleep? How was the Better Habitat mattress? How was Camp Mode? How much battery did my car drain during those nights? Would I recommend camping in a Model 3? I share my experience in this video and offer tips on making your Tesla glamping/camping trip more enjoyable without range anxiety.

Nice! This camp site is 3 miles inland off of I-15. You wouldn’t know it existed if you weren’t going there. 😊
Honestly, I couldn't stand having a gas engine running when camping in an ICE vehicle, so EV is a way to go. I have camped in Model 3 once at the casino while charging my car for free, it's definitely doable.

loved camping in my model s. wife and I both fit, i'm 6 ft any taller itd be uncomfortable but certainly a cool way to save money a few nights on roadtrips or retreats like this 💚👍

How cool ! If I were to ever get a model 3 I'd definitely want to try glamping !
If you only need to warm up overnight, and use manual, maybe turn off the A/C in camp mode? Then it will only warm, not try to cool down to exact temp (less cold draft?) and would be less noisy/vibration as no compressor. (Though, new models w/ heat pump, will still feel a bit.. but will also use less battery)

I watched a video awhile back of a lady that lives out of her model 3 so it’s definitely possible to sleep for more than 2 nights! 😄 I’ll checkout the curtain though wonder if shades for all windows would just be better since they can serve dual purpose of protecting your car from the sun for extended storage.

Hi! I would try Orange County or San Diego areas. LA has too many transients.
You are supposed to use the suction cups for the excess fabric at the back.

Hi Joy, that was an excellent video and camping experience on the tesla model 3. The tesmat is an excellent option to keep privacy while sleeping in the car.
I think that the vendor of the product can improve the tesmat by adding small suction cups to adhere to the glass and thus we can have a more better looking interior or we can do it ourselves with small suction cups.
What do you think?

Nice that you didn’t have to trickle charge. Did you have Sentry Mode turned off?
Yes. Sentry Mode drains a lot of battery so you need to turn it off if you’re going to sleep in your car. Plus I believe camp code automatically disables it like dog mode.

Can you put camp mode screen into screen maintenance and thus stay black all night or not???
No. It’s like a screen saver. People have thrown a shirt over the screen to block it out.
My M3 does not have continuous WiFi connectivity while parked in my condo garage. But I continue to get notices to connect when there is no software upgrade pending. So I drive around to the front of my condo double park and connect to my WiFi and nothing happens. What’s up with that? Anyone?
Joy can you please explain if Tesla's AC system is different from the traditional one or does it really emit CFC? just asking out of curiousity 👍
Tesla is a ZERO EMISSIONS vehicle.
Do the rear seat areas not fold up against the front seat backs to allow the rear folded backs to sit flat? Most cars in Europe at least do this to give you a true flat ‘trunk’ as you would call it. Maybe worth a look?

@@TeslaJoy I’m not sure which video link you are referring to but what I do to lay the rear seats completely flat is I literally pop the seat bottom out. A Tesla TH-camr has a short instruction video. Obviously if you have a need for them then this won’t work but it’s a simple unhooking of the seat heater connections. The seat pops right out. Very light weight and takes 30 seconds to pop back in just bring an extra blanket or something to put between the folded down backrest and the metal frame to not damage the faux leather. For my windows I cut out hard cardboard box templates and fitted black felt around them. They slide right into place. Completely blocks out the light. A Sun shade in the front and a curtain made from the same felt material to cordon off the front from the back. No one knew I was back there. I’m 6’2” and found I don’t have a problem sleeping in my Model 3. Summer of 2019 I had 9 nights in there. I am still trying to find excuses to get back on the road. Love your videos and my dog loves the Ibuddy back seat cover you recommended. I’m 3 days short of my 2 year anniversary with my Tesla. 45,000 miles. Love this car.

That’s pretty cool. I guess my only question would be is how far was the retreat from home? Did you charge charge somewhere in between? I am very surprised by the battery drain being so low. I would have thought that it would drain much quicker with the AC turned on. I do think you should get an external battery to use as a secondary supply of energy for your iPad or any other electronic device.

I think Tesla should make a product that levels the bed, an incline is no good long term. I saw a photo of a Model Y with double paned glass, it might well be dramatically more insulating.
