Cecilia reminds us that we people have senses and emotions. She feels the music with every particle of her not only physical but also spiritual body and she also presents the music that way. Without any restrictions the resonance flows through her. She reminds us of the beauty of the Infinite. Thank you Cecilia to help people to get rid of their fear of seeing emotions fully expressed let it be by the music, face, body language...
Facial expressions or not I couldnt care two hoots. I want to hear great music and I got an auditory festival of great music extremely well sung. Well done folks for sharing your gifts with us.
I don't think you people understand this aria at all! It is an attempt by Don Juan (Giovanni) to seduce an "innocent" young bride, and is supposed to be exaggerated for amusing effect. Bartolli expresses the spirit of the piece perfectly, in voice, face and movement while Hampson looks as though he has no idea what is going on, and would rather be anywhere else. Watch Bartolli and Terfel, to see how it should be done.
I've been following Hampson for years. He's just a peerless baritone and a generous artist, to boot. Bartoli is wonderful in her own right. Among the best Bel Canto sopranos, without question.
+Bob Burns The trick is: They are so good that they can get away with anything on a stage. I would have wished Mozart had seen this one. If You are right about Muti holding the stick, then we got a bunch of aggressive artists.Muti got away - handsomely - in Rome with encore of "Va pensiero". But en encore con tutti!!! Including the AUDIENCE! Not only that: But it was so the chorus wept - and the audience flung their tickets so they could not be refunded - before first curtain.
For starters Popp and Moser were much higher voices so its not the same repertoire. I do have a soft spot for Berganza. Flicka lived almost exclusively from Cherubino. So no Cecilia does not compare. I would also not compare her to Kirsten Flagstad. But then again - if You can't take a joke - then Cecilia is not for You.
If you had seen Cecelia Bartolli singing with Bryn Terfel at the "98" Richard Tucker Gala, posted earlier, and it seems, withdrawn, you would understand the reactions of the viewers about Thomas Hamson's "wooden stance", in this concert versus her vivacity. She sparkles and emotes, even in a non- operatic setting.....she sings from the heart - Glorious.
Well it's his voice power and skill are which is awesome. Doesn't matter if it's not that beautiful. Not even most singers can do more than he can. Try listening to his other performance.
+Ronaldo Paino I don't know if she is the best, but she can do things nobody could even dream of. And with Thomas Hampson who even Elisabeth Schwarzkopf had praise for (she was an old battleaxe) - he is good and has a beautiful voice. Putting Ci Darem la Mano upside down like this takes charm, chutpa and talent - and get away with it so the orchestra flogs the nodestand with the bows.
so much fuss over too much or too little facial expression. close your eyes and just listen to two fine artists. we're so lucky to click a key and hear such wonderful singing
Very good. Thomas is known as... well, let's call it difficult when it comes to politeness, empathy and good manners in general. Yet, if you don't watch and just listen, it's beautiful. :-)
Well, Gerrit, there aren't that many Danes all together :-) The aria is really sooo well performed with such genuine emotion that I had to shed a tear. The aria itself is of course one of Mozarts masterpieces - so powerful in its divine simplicity. One is tempted to say thanks God Renée Fleming took sick .... Bartoli's performance is fantastic! Tom
@amatorynumber- who says he doesn't like women and she doesn't like men? He's been married twice, and is still married. His wife is a countess, I believe. And she's married to a Swiss baritone. Not that it matters if either of them were gay, but why spread false rumors?
Next to all thrilling purity of the voives - both hers and his- they match perfectly in the romantic mood of what the songs is about- thrilling amour fou between the insolently innocent gal and the knight in shining armor turning bad.... but later...
Everyone has their likes and dislikes personally I love cecilia this is not based on great technical knowledge but what pleases the ear and unfortunately some comments about her and others just continue to perpetuate the snobbery associated with opera. Everyone has a right to enjoy what they like and bitchy comments that she is surprised at her rapturous reception because she knows she is not as good as others is totally unfounded.
"Cecilia Bartoli and Thomas Hampson performing a beautiful arrangement of this famous song." What arrangement? This is how it is written. Famous song? Famous, yes, but it is a duet!
They sing it beautifully, but they could learn a lot about how to interact with each other from Anna Netrebko and Bo Skovhus. Very enjoyable performance.
I wrote both a reply and a comment some hours ago, neither of which has been posted. Generally speaking, how long does it take to post a reply. Huffpost does it in under twenty minutes. hipo
his voice is magnificent and she feels Zerlinas quandry. . her hesitation knowing aristocrats are unreliable, her tie to her fiance, her attraction to this strong man and then her capitulation to his seduction .
Bravo Hampson! This is the way to stop the singers showing off on stage instead of singing! If you leave Bartoli without the opportunity to move, only with "singing" - everybody will hear that she is not able to sing "legato" 2 notes. The great lesson for everyone!
Cecilia bartoli what a voice! It's as if an angel has come down to Earth to sing amongst us.
do not look...listen... wonderful voices...
The aupplause was earned
I love Cecilia, she's so expressive in her performances.
She is second to none! Her expression, how delicate, how not to fall in love with? Amazed! I’m happy that audience recognized that too! Bravo!!!
Cecilia always seems so surprised when an audience likes her, true humility. I adore her voice.
Come non amare Mozart con due interpreti così? Splendido !
She makes me crazy! What a voice, what an artist, what a woman! Viva Italia! Viva la musica!
I think this is one of the best performance of this duet!
Cecilia is the expression of our emotions in a great musical talent
Cecilia reminds us that we people have senses and emotions. She feels the music with every particle of her not only physical but also spiritual body and she also presents the music that way. Without any restrictions the resonance flows through her. She reminds us of the beauty of the Infinite.

Magnifique duo . Deux voix superbes un vrai plaisir .
Beautiful voices, beautiful singing together
Beautiful emotional singing of this divine aria. Thank you for posting, ClassicalRelated!
Facial expressions or not I couldnt care two hoots. I want to hear great music and I got an auditory festival of great music extremely well sung. Well done folks for sharing your gifts with us.
An absolutely fantastic rendition.
Non ho parole di lode per Cecilia Bartoli e' cosi' immaginalmente magnifica!
Cecilia Bartoli: what a wonderful flirt!! Such unparalleled talent and control.
Bravo, grandes Cecilia Bartoli y Thomas Hampson
Superb voices.
So beautiful !
I love their singing. They can sing forever with those beautiful voices.
Such wonderful and beautiful singing. Hampson could have acted more but his voice is velvet!
Hampson's subtle expressions showed he knew she'd give in. Didn't even have to try. His last smile was "gotcha"!
sensacional! fantastico!

Qaqaaaàà
@@hedarozman5908 Perhaps that gibberish means something to you; it means nothing whatever to me.
It’s not an aria.
@@highbaritone A duet, I believe.
Couldn't find a video, but the audio with Terfel does sound better.

I wish I could have been there.
He would have laughed.

La ci daremo la mano....meravigliosa musica e parole stupende....❤
Wonderful voices - my favourite opera ever!
Hello how are you

You can say the same about his with Kathleen Battle, Hampson and Bartoli are just performing in different styles
But Bryn Terfel was a whole class better.
Well it's his voice power and skill are which is awesome. Doesn't matter if it's not that beautiful. Not even most singers can do more than he can. Try listening to his other performance.
I love hampson so much
His music is so beautiful
Beautiful... Simply beautiful. Voices from Heaven, no doubt about it.
Brilliant performance. Thank you.
Adoroooo ❤
The best mezzo soprano in my opinion.
+Ronaldo Paino
soprano...

bodiloto Wow! She’s a mezzo-soprano .
Yes it’s true, though I like Thomas Hampson in many arias, but why did she never sing together with Hvorostovsky? Or did she? The best two together?
so much fuss over too much or too little facial expression. close your eyes and just listen to two fine artists. we're so lucky to click a key and hear such wonderful singing
But there are times when one needs to feel the lyrics so one acts the lyrics to feel the songs message.
BRAVI TUTTI
Magnificent!

Great. I love this opera

EXCELENTE !!!!!!!!!
Ma brava e bravi!!!!
Para deleitarse con este duo extraordinario
Mozart rocks! Cecília has a very nice voice.
she's so lovely.
@Ronaldo: True! I like the baroque control of the orchestra.
Splendidi! Cecilia Bartoli poi è semplicemente divina, unica, grande, indimenticabile!
I went to an Opera performance lately and hey, it was packed! In insecure times, people think about doing something valuable to their soul.
Bravo to Mr. Hampson and brava to Ms. Bartoli.
So beautiful ... Dios mio ...
La voz de Hampson es maravillosa, aquí es una delicia.
Cierto 😂🤣
Это шедевр
los dos buenísimos intérpretes

The way she sing can also bring out the deep inner emotion not only by good practical opera tenic.💙💙💙💙💙💙
stellar!
+Samariterstrasse
da anni piove e c'è la pioggia giorno e notte nel mondo della lirica moderna!
il sole non si vede più,e ancora meno le stelle!
al minuto 2: 42 Cecilia è semplicemente divina: quel sospiro...mamma mia...perfetta.
MARAVILLOSOS

Cecelia looks like a doll, about to wet herself, next to Thomas. Her expressions are priceless.
As of 3:00 it just knocks my socks I could cry.
Beautiful voices together. Agree that one should close eyes and listen only. By the way, it is not an arrangement. It is just as Mozart wrote it.
Oh good - I'm glad someone pointed out that Mozart wrote it this way.
Zo mooi

D'accordo 100%
Cecilia Bartoli immensa.
👍🌹🌹
Cecilia, cecilia, why are you so magnificent?
I have a dream: Cecilia Bartoli performing this duet together with Cesare Siepi ...
minchia che espressività, questa! Da paura!
Interessante
Hampson se apartó psicológicamente del rol, sin embargo, interpreta vocalmente a un excelente don giovanni. Magnifico Riccardo Muti.
Mozart tunes are incomparable.
Everyone has their likes and dislikes personally I love cecilia this is not based on great technical knowledge but what pleases the ear and unfortunately some comments about her and others just continue to perpetuate the snobbery associated with opera. Ramy and Upshaw!!!!
Cecilia is great also with Terfel!
Il Don Giovanni di Mozart è forse la mia opera preferita. Cecilia Bartoli è una splendida Zerlina.
@kneelandpray1 Your point being? The part was written for a baritone/bass after all :/
Maybe Cecilia Bartoli's voice too much "baroque", but I like this rendition!
Where & when was that played?
well, they both do make funny faces.
"Cecilia Bartoli and Thomas Hampson performing a beautiful arrangement of this famous song." What arrangement? This is how it is written. Famous song? Famous, yes, but it is a duet!

The opera version of ‘guitar face’.
