    I own a 10th gen hatch and absolutely love it inside and out but this update is growing on me. The interior is beautiful in this 11th generation. I have also been impressed with the 11th gen hatch, particularly the Audi-inspired fastback look from the rear. I’ll be test driving one when they are available. As far as the 1.5 not generating enough passenger compartment warmth, I had no issues last winter when temps were -20F last winter.

    The styling of the previous generation Civic grew on me eventually and looked really good in the upper trims. This one blew me away and could easily pass for something European. I also like how Hondas feel really solid (doors close nicely) and they feel stable at higher speeds but they won't go overboard on the price if you aim for the mid level trims.

    I have a 2019 Civic HB with the 1.5T and I live in Calgary. I believe that Honda tweaked the engine software since the 1.5 was introduced. The cabin has no problem getting warm in the winter. Overall the 1.5 has been a peach of an engine.
    Oh and BTW though I love my hatch I'm the first to admit that its styling is, um, kinda busy.

  • @stephenhendricks103

    Great review, folks. I think self-styled automotive "enthusiasts," including myself, often underestimate the challenges of designing a vehicle like the Civic. A car that can be driven for five years or more without looking and feeling out-of-date. An economical vehicle that serves the missions of a daily driver and a long distance "tripper" equally well for a single driver, a couple, or a small family. Compared to such competing demands designing a vehicle aimed at a single mission is far less challenging.
    The design of the new Elantra is undeniably arresting but its over-styled creases and bulges (a common feature of Hyundai's design language) suggest it's a descendant of a spaceship in a 1930's Flash Gordon movie serial. I couldn't agree more that the new Civic's design will age far better.
    All in all, I think Honda has a winner in the new generation.

One thing I have seen around is Honda civic is the second car for most of the Audi owners. Hello Andrea and Zack. I really love watching your reviews; you're both so objective, and professional. Your technical experience with automobiles shines through loud and clear. Andrea, I especially love your exuberance/ excitement when you love a car. You and I have the same taste; as I always agree with your choices as well. I LOVE the all new Honda Civic. Its styling is beautiful, so sophisticated; styling you'd more likely only find on high line German cars, such as Audi; BMW. Lastly, it's a Honda; therefore reliability will never be an issue. Further, in true Honda fashion: Handling is perfect; ride quality-superb; engine power and overall performance is excellent. The quality of materials and fit and finish, in true Honda fashion, is unparalleled for a car in this class segment. A powerful turbocharged 1.5 liter engine, with 180 horsepower, producing 177 Lb ft of torque that peaks at just 1700 rpm, and remains flat all the way through 5000 rpm's, making the Civic good for a 0-60mph time of just 7.1 seconds, all the while, getting 39 mpg highway and 30 mpg, in the city. What more can one ask for, not to mention class leading rear leg room, trunk, etc. I can't say enough good about this car. I also really am in LOVE with the all new 2023 Honda Accord. I'll be buying a new car soon. I've got to weigh the pros and cons of both the Civic and Accord. The major deciding factor, is considering price, and value of each. Again, thank you for such an informative, thought provoking review. -Thanks, Tim

    I’m American and just bought the 2023 Honda Civic Touring last week. So excited! I’m 4’11”, so being able to reach the pedals and see over the steering wheel at the same time is a real issue. I bought the Touring bc it has power seats that go in 4 directions & I especially needed it to go UP! 🤪 I sit up higher than my previous ‘02 Civic LX and can generally see around better. The car is gorgeous and though it’s the priciest trim, I’m super happy with it. Need to get used to it though as the steering wheel and pedals feel VERY different than my old Civic. 😊

    From what I've read, people have had success with;
    1) a slightly thicker oil 5w-30 full-synthetic
    2) also to change it early, every 4000-5000km (2500-3000 miles)
    3) to allow your engine to idle for 1-2 minutes, for the piston-rings to make a good seal, before starting to drive.
    I think the problem was that sometimes people would start their cold car, 1.5L-Turbo Hondas, and would start driving without even allowing the car to lube up, so there would be some oil dilution by the added blow-by of the fuel mixture and would further dilute the oil. Also, would not allow the engine to fully warm up, before they would shut it off, still cold, at the grocery store, just 1 mile away from their home. So the engine never got up to temp to burn off the added fuel dilution, and the engine wear will be higher because it was used as if it was warm, while it was still cold and oil was diluted, so extra wear and tear that wouldn't happen, if it was allowed to warm up before use, and kept the oil good through the oil-change-cycle.
    I've heard great things about a tiny bit of Rislone Engine Oil Supplement with Zinc Treatment in every oil change, for cold-start protection for the engine bearings in our colder regions.

    I think people are shocked by the design bc Honda jumped from edgy and youth oriented and went refined and sophisticated all in one model year. This civic to me looks like they looked at VW or Volvo and then added fillets to all the sharp edges in CAD. As an owner of a 16 the 22 is not a bad design, just drastically different.

    I admit that I don't watch this channel religiously, but I have to say that there is something authentic and wholesome about an automotive vlogger who chooses a Civic EX as their own personal car. I'm not naming any names but it seems like most automotive TH-camrs choose very pretentious cars for their own personal use i.e. Porsche, Tesla, Range Rover, AMG, etc. They may review Civics but they're too important to own such an ordinary car. Obviously this isn't you and that makes your channel more credible. On a somewhat related note, Mrs. Spencer is a an adorable woman and brings a very welcome and refreshing perspective to the channel.
    For what it's worth, I'm anxious to see what kind of changes the next model of the CR-V brings, which I assume is still currently in development. This Civic is definitely a step in the right direction, but I do feel as if they are playing it safe with the exterior. I feel the interior of the current Civic and CR-V was dated pretty from the get-go and as such has aged somewhat poorly, so hopefully they rectify that in the next release, as I'll be looking to replace my 17 CR-V when the next generation comes out.

    Great review! Although not having the option of the 1.5 Turbo for either the Sport sedan or the incoming hatchback model is counter-intuitive. You need to move up the the EX or Touring models for either for the turbo (which also has better gas mileage btw) but then you lose those nice sporty 18 inch wheels as standard. It’s of course very smooth, which is typical of Honda and it has fantastic power and torque, with a beautifully flat torque curve (max torque from 1700rpm all the way to 5500 rpm!). My son also has the 2017 Civic Base sedan with the 158hp motor. It is vault solid, handles well and the only negative for me is the CVT. If Honda can couple the Civic with an automatic (like Mazda 3 does), then I think they will maximize their sales.

    • @stuntmonkey00
      @stuntmonkey00 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      How much more maximizing can they do though? The Civic and the Corolla each take up 25% of the total market for compacts in the US. Everybody else is fighting for scraps. Honda isn't losing sleep over customers foregoing CVT cars for trad automatics. The Mazda3 moves 3000 units a month, the Civic does 25,000 or more.

    Life long Honda Fanboy here....But, I have sworn off Honda. I have owned 1991 prelude 4ws, 2001 civic, 2010 civic, 2013 accord, CBR600 and Honda lawnmower. 2001 and 2010 best cars ever. 2010 civic has 232k on it right now and it is driven everyday about 450 miles a week. I will keep it till it hits 350k. Accord is one of the worse cars I have had. Oil burner. rear calipers had to be replaced at 60k. wheel hub at 80k. With the oil dilution issues of the 1.5 liter engines, I can't buy another Honda. Hondas have terrible seats. My accord can't be driven longer than an hour without back and hip pain. tread lightly when looking at Hondas. Honda was rated 12th in reliability a couple of years ago by CR. They are back up to 5. But, that is behind Mazda, Lexus, Toyota. No more Honda for me unless they get up in top 3 on reliability. The extended warranty on the oil dilution issue is meaningless. I bet one of these cars that dilute oil will not hit 200k miles. The oil being mixed with oil will cause the engine to wear much faster.

    Honda got rid of the Fit in the NA market because it just wasn't selling like it's main stable. Also, the Civic stopped being an insanely affordable car a long time ago. An inflation adjusted 2001 Civic DX manual would be $22,500 today. No one buys manuals so they dropped that as an option. The DX trim is just simply gone so when you compare a LX Auto from 2001, you end up at an adjusted $28,457. So I would say that where the Touring is only $2k CAD more, the actual DEAL you are getting these days is wicked good considering that an LX today is only $24,465 CAD.
    As for how I feel about the new gen, I have a GenX. I found that only once I saw it in person at my local dealer, did I like it. The pictures just don't really work for it. I prefer the look of the rear of the hatch so I am very interested to see all the specs and reviews on the hatch soon.
    The one thing that Honda Canada CONTINUES to do that rips me is that the second to top trim only get the 2.0NA engine but in the US market, they get the 1.5T. Stupid. But on the flip, the US market doesn't get a heated steering wheel or rear heated seats (Even in the touring) but Canada does. Pretty sure America isn't only Texas, Arizona and Florida...
