Can I just say that the fact you uploaded 43 minutes video without any ads in between itself shows how much you care for this topic and educating women in your circle! Thank you so much, I could focus, process and digest this topic intensely! Love you 💖
I just started watching this video but I have to stop a minute and comment. I’m 74 and well past menopause. I think it’s great that women are getting these kinds of resources. I had issues with periods my entire adult life. My hormones started going whacky in my early 40s. I wanted hormone testing to figure out how to treat it. First doctor told me I was too young for menopause symptoms-no tests or treatment. Second doctor said I didn’t need hormone tests, I just needed Valium. When I refused the Valium he became angry. Third strike told me I was over 40 and had to expect to start falling apart. Needless to say, all were male doctors. Never again. I survived on my own. I wasn’t rich so couldn’t keep searching.
How DISGUSTING for ANY Dr. to treat a menopausal woman like that!!! So DISRESPECTFUL & as if you were a "Crazy, Hysterical" female! I WOULDN'T have been able to bite my tongue hearing those words come out of their mouths! "YOU'RE FIRED!!!" would have been the ONLY nice thing that they would have heard! Allopathic medicine is So Antiquated & so are the Dr.'s who come from it! I fear it's only going to get worse because the Dr.'s graduating today are being trained to be even bigger drug dealers for Big Pharma, & they are not taught discernment in diagnosis skills. Functional Medicine Dr.'s are THE Medicine of the future, but not many can afford to go outside their insurance plans, unfortunately.
I've been on HRT for 14 years and it's the best thing I've done for myself. The best way of getting your hormones is through the Estrogen Patch (Low Dose) and if you have a Uterus, it's important to make sure you also take a Progesterone Capsule 100mg. DO NOT FALL FOR THE UNDER THE SKIN PELLETS. The compounding companies can't get the formulas correct for what you really need. The Progesterone capsules really help you sleep all night, so this is why they tell you to take them at night only. DO NOT use the Estrogen and Progesterone over the counter creams. Big waste of money, and the skin doesn't absorb them either. Make sure you eat smart and do some weightlifting at least 3 times a week. **START DOING HRT RIGHT AWAY, AND DON'T WAIT TOO LONG AFTER YOUR LAST PERIOD IS DONE.
I do the pellets and have had tremendous success. I’m glad you have found your solution! Just want others to know that not all compounding pharmacies are bad news. The pellet can work really well for some individuals.
So many aha moments watching this. Im 42, I've felt off for a year now. Shoulder and back pain, headaches, anxiety attacks with weird for me, catastrophising moments and moments of vertigo. I always thought i was too young but now I'm becoming convinced.
Thank you Penn. This is fantastic! Women needed to be supported in this area. There is so much misinformation. I feel like women need to know the natural and traditional routes to navigate this journey. Thank you so much!!
Thank you so much Penn for this video!!!💗💗 There is not enough information related to Menopause health care and we go through the process with so many symptoms that affect the quality of our daily life without proper healthcare and support. A big Thank You!!💗💗🤗
You rock Penn! I have been watching you for years and why you don't have a million subscribers is beyond me. you are by far my most favorite TH-camr and believe me I watch them all. Thank you!
This is one of the most informative videos I have watched on menopause’s symptoms and treatment. I have been on Estradiol for 4 years and am now on Testosterone as well. I am a firm believer in the benefits of HRT and my body is responding positively. I am sharing your video with friends. Thank you!
Thank you for having such a honest and informative conversation. Anxiety is one of those symptoms you don't typically hear about. HRT is helpful for many of the symptoms but for me, anxiety became so disruptive to my quality of life that I needed to take an SSRI in addition to HRT. Also, hair loss, joint pain and headaches were also unexpected symptoms. Informing women of all these potential changes is definitely helpful because it is such a difficult and confusing period in our lives.
I went through all of the worst peri menopausal symptoms-weird thoughts, like you described, Penny. Finally I became so depressed and just ‘dark’ in thought, I went to see a doctor who had me try the patch- I think I was 53- Within 3 days- I felt like my old self again-bright, affectionate, etc- just remarkable.. Like night and day. It probably saved my life!
@@ES-hc8bm when I was tested hormonal, the treating physician told me I had almost zero estrogen left… so basically none! The difference was night and day how much better I felt in every way. I think I want to try that estrogen face cream.

Apparently some doctors are reticent about prescribing HRT because our society is such a litigious one. I am so happy that there are online options now. Thanks for providing this information, it is tremendously helpful.
Thank you Penny & Dr Menn educating us on this topic. I'm 66 & I remember going to my Dr & he prescribed me with anxiety medication & a referral to see a neurologist for a brain MRI. I was terrified & the results of the brain MRI showed that I was suffering from depression & he prescribed medication to ease my depression. How nieve I was, I feel so stupid. I have daughter & I will educate her on menopause & how she is in control of her own body & mind. I thank you both for this information!!!💕
Thank you so much for opening up the conversation about mental health, I greatly appreciate this discussion. I love Dr Menn, she is so thoughtful kind and compassionate and educated and cares to speak to women and is able to translate her experience as a woman for women she touches, she is humble and down to earth and cares. Thank you.
This was so helpful Penn, thank you! Also, just wow! the WHI was so irresponsible with their reporting, there is a whole generation of women who could have benefited from HRT but did not. And now the vast majority of Doctors go by the old reports of HRT and breast cancer so that women who want it can’t get it. The WHI should be putting all of their efforts and money into reeducation to the public and health care providers as every single women who lives long enough to enter menopause will be affected. Shame on The WHI who are suppose to be advocates for women’s health. Really!
Thank u for interviewing this Dr!! I’ve been Leary of these internet prescription drs but now that I’ve heard her speak, I see that these drs are the real deal!! The list of menopause symptoms was a life saver! I have occasionally experienced all of these and honestly I was starting to freak out that I had something serious wrong with me! Now I can calm down knowing it’s normal & just continue taking care of myself but moving forward with some HRT. Thx Penn!
Great interview Penn and Dr. Menn! Penn I appreciate how prepared you were and you asked excellent questions while Dr. Menn explained things so well. I'm glad you found and chose such a valuable and reliable resource for information on women's hormonal health and I look forward to hearing part 2!!
Thank you, Penny! I had night sweats so bad that my hair would be soaked and would find a pool of sweat in the hollow of my chin that would run down my neck. I would wake my husband and have him feel my hair, feeling if I was miserable he could experience it with me. Lol. (We are still together.). I gained weight in my belly within 2 years after my last period (which occurred 2 months shy of age 53). My doctor, a 30 something very fit female, was soulless. Told me to stop eating bon-bons and gave me the standard nutrition pyramid and strongly advised I go on a diet. She treated me as though I was a lazy aging woman and my issues were my fault. No exploratory conversation about my actual eating habits, menopause or HRT because she couldn’t identify with me. I tried to ask questions and she would act disinterested and literally said my insurance company only allowed her to spend 14 minutes with me. Well, I was in the insurance industry and knew that was BS. Bottom line she was a woman doctor with a revolving door approach? Was the WHI study turning the medical community against women? I was perplexed and mad, so told her I was once a skinny bitch too and I expected more from a woman physician. 😊 I changed doctors and found menopause was just not on anyone’s radar. I cycled through a few doctors and have yet to find someone who cares. I did my own research which helped me understand what and why my body was rejecting me and DIY’d self care. I am now 65, 12 years post menopausal, and too late for HRT or can’t find a doctor that specializes. But somehow successfully suffered through it, am grateful to be healthy and strong, need zero meds (only supplements). Thankfully information like today’s content on your channel holds a promising HRT future for my daughters.
@@patmode6775 - I am 65. Never have been on it. As they said, better to start early. Not sure what it would do for me at this point. Should have, would have started at 52 if I could have had a doctor who would have prescribed it.

I was wholly unprepared for it, and had lots of things go wrong, because I didn’t set myself up for success. Maybe this is discussed in the video, but even though I didn’t go through menopause until I was about 55 I started having symptoms at least 10 years earlier.
Yes. We need to help women, with sexual health, pelvic floor dysfunction, bone health, quality of life. Etc. I love my HRT bioidentical. Thank God my Dr gave me this low down years ago when all the misinformation was coming out!!!! All studies need to be reliable, applied to each individual person
I went on the low dose estradiol patch for relief from my OBGYN, and when I saw my Breast Surgeon, she demanded that I get off of the patches, because I had fibrocystic breast disease. I stopped the patches, and tried various different bio identical creams, over a period of about two years. After I got through menopause (hot flashes subsided) I was diagnosed with breast cancer!!! Beware and do your own due diligence; perimenopause and menopause are a natural occurrence in a woman’s life, so sometimes we just have to endure the effects of them.
My symptoms were heightened ADHD symptoms ,intense anxiety, & debilitating vertigo. My PCP’s first comment was to suggest I had a mental health issue… duh! but it never clicked with her that it was menopause related… Love the NAMS resource! Thank you for introducing me to MYALLOY 😊💜💕💜
Don’t be afraid..you are in this boat with many women. It takes time and adjustment..stay in contact with your health professional who can help you through the process… be patient ( it can take a few months for the full positive balance to work itself out) life is good! ❤
Penny- another phenomenal video. My cousin mentioned where she was in life to me on Thursday night, at 4 am Friday, I had made a huge file of information for her, with some of your videos and links at the very top. Thank you for your intense curiosity and need to get out this information!💕
Thank you both for the education in this video!! It’s so difficult to get the full story on menopause and what we can or shouldn’t take! At this time in our life that is already filled with such horrifying symptoms it sure helps to have support to navigate the gray areas. Thank you!
Thank you Penn! I'm loving this new important info ♥ We need all the tlc, help, and support we can get! ♥ Love Dr Menn, her ease and personality makes her feel very approachable, like she's your friend and on your side ♥
Other symptoms to watch for - sudden crepe skin, bruises on skin which are really caused by your skin becoming fragile like you see in really old people, cracked heels and soles on your feet, acne which is a lot of times caused by ingrown hairs because the skin is so dry, and lose of hair.
I am in the generation where HRT was not used to help with symptoms, and now I am not a candidate for HRT. I got anxiety and it never went away. It became a lifelong issue to manage.
I still have hot flashes from time to time, I do get hot in no time at all on my back, but I have a ton of being unmotivated, feeling overwhelmed, fragmented (so, kind of ADD) and feeling apathetic. I was on HRT for 6 years from 51-57, then had a cyst and polyp removed and my Dr thought it best to go off the HRT. I’m 64 now, so except for using estradiol cream for dryness (down there), that’s it. I feel I need something for all the overwhelmed and fragmented feelings! My Dr said HRT has the most benefits the first 10 years of menopause, so…
Thank you so much Pen and Dr. Menn! Amazing interview! Question for dr. M: Can a 48 year old woman with a history of endometriosis and or possible active endometriosis can use estrogen?
Wow excellent interview!!! I have had so many of these symptoms especially uti 😢 and lately having the urge to pee and not being able to go went to urgent care twice because I thought it was a uti. 😢 they gave me vagifem (estradiol) I looked up reviews and people were like don’t take it . I didn’t take it and went away but I have had all these symptoms. Thanks again this is great information
So is norethindrone acetate the same as norethindrone in the progestin only pill (POP)? And how safe is this for long term use? If it is causing amenorrhea in someone with endometrial hyperplasia is this still safe or should an alternative be explored? Very specific, I know. Hoping to get an answer to this.
I took the birth control pill until the age of 47 and ended up with a tumor on my liver. Do not take Estrogen by mouth in peri menopause/menopause because it’s so hard on your liver. I quit the birth control pill on the advice of my Gyn and my liver tumor was gone within 6 months on the MRI. The patch and pellet for Estrogen is supposed to be fine.
Hello! I’m 64 yo been menopausal for 13yrs so my gynecologist refused to prescribe HRT she says recent studies have shown high risk of heart disease for women in menopause more than 10yrs. I’ve had high cholesterol in the past but normal levels now.I’d love to take HRT to prevent brain bone and heart and benefit from HRT.
I’m so grateful for the information. It’s a subject that needs more attention, education and research but has not. A million thanks for helping women get the necessary information to make informed decisions. Unrelated question, any chance you can do an updated video for microneedling and pico toner? I bought the ziip halo but it was defective so I’m trying to use the pico. A bit more time consuming so I’m thinking about getting the ANMA attachment.
You mentioned itchy ears, omg I am pretty sure I got a yeast infection in my ears. After a lifetime of not having yeast infections I started getting reoccurring ones with peri. Was put on a long term Fluconazole program and just realized I haven’t had itchy ears since.
@@PENNSMITHSKINCARE I have been trying to get SOMEONE to help me with hormone replacement. Up until 3 years ago I still had my ovaries. Ever since, my skin, my mood, anxiety and depression.😬 My gynocologyst and uryogynecologist were no help at all. Thank you again!!! You're the best!!! ❤️❤️❤️
I’m almost 45 and the only thing I have is severe anxiety but I’ve always had that.. Now I’m terrified that it’s going to get even worse with peri menopause/menopause 😞
I have been telling my DR I've been peri menopausal for 2 years and She FINALLY agreed with me. My mother went through menopause fairly early. I don't sleep, like I'm lucky if I get 3 hrs of sleep a night which makes life so difficult. 😵💫
Thanks Penn ❤ Dr. Menn, you're incredible ❤ can't wait for part 2. I'm 61, went thru menopause at 57, just started HRT. My doc is great. I do think I may need an adjustment. So far, I haven't suffered terribly. I'm going to make sure my daughter is well informed ❤ good luck beautiful ladies ❤
How about hrt and heart disease from family genetics? Cardiologist didn’t think a good idea. Cholesterol levels good. There’s never a lot of discussion of what other options are if hrt not an option. Yr thoughts?
Erectile dysfunction in older men is a natural aging process but insurance covers Viagra to the hundreds of thousands of men running in droves to their doctors bc they recognize the importance of sexual health. Who are these guys supposed to be having sex with when women's doctors are refusing hrt to assist women with their sexual health.
I had a total hysterectomy removing everything 4 months ago. Can I still use a oestrogen inserted vaginally if it’s better than oral? I’m in Australia (55 yrs old) & have been on HRT for at least 8 yrs due to horrendous night sweats (Mirena for progesterone & oral Progynova for oestrogen). I’m just on oral oestrogen now as I didn’t like using the patches or gel.
I keep being told my bloodwork shows I’m still making estrogen, so I shouldn’t go on estradiol. It had been 10 months since a period, and then I had one that was fairly normal. Doctors keep saying adding estradiol right now could make me very moody. Thoughts? Thank you.
Maybe check yourself the lab test results, ie. are your estrogen levels normal ie high enough? Because I am still making estrogen too, although menopausal, it’s just really low. So have a look yourself at the lab results and compare your numbers with a baseline (note, it’s normal for estrogen levels to fluctuate so it may depend on when they did your test and so forth)
Can you post the link or number of the study showing no increase in risk of breast cancer for estrogen+progesterone HRT? I had breast cancer and I cannot live anymore with the effects of hormone deficiency. I need HRT and no doctor is willing to even have a discussion around HRT with me. I feel dehumanized and left without agency in my own healthcare.
I will definitely get that link for you. I’ll ask Dr Menn for specifics 💙 Also, you should absolutely get the book Estrogen Matters. It blew my mind…my mom is a BC survivor too (estrogen receptor pos bc) so I empathize with your pain 😔
Thank you Penny. This was amazing! I take oral estradiol and progesterone and topical testosterone. But I feel like crap all the time. Never want to have sex with my husband either. But I also have treatment resistant depression and anxiety and chronic pain as well. I’m at my wits end.
With the right estradiol dose *for you *, you should feel sooooo much better. Also, discuss why oral and not patch. I haven't heard of doctors still prescribing oral over the patch.
What I'm interested to know is how much does being on BIHT cost monthly? It sounds like this is not something that is being offered through insurance. Can anyone that is already on hormone therapy comment on this plz.
In Canada it’s absolutely covered, hormone therapy is a medical prescription, after all. So..the answer probably depends on your country, your medical plan. But HT should be covered, (I’m not referring to bio identical, which is compounded, I’m referring to “standardized” hormone therapy prescriptions.
Yes! That’s what I take! I’m 54 years old, post menopausal now, zero “side effects” of menopause now. So, oral nightly progestin and a low dose estrogen patch (that I switch our twice a week) and I do use a varginal estrogen 1-2 times a week. It seemed like a lot at first but now I have it worked into my routine, and it’s all good! And I’m told that I look way younger than am, so maybe the hormone therapy is helpful for that too 😊 (plus Penn’s Awesome Skincare Recommendations of course)
A little concerning to speak so non chalantly about the pill for teen girls acne. 😢 So many girls on hormonal BC for years and years with terrible side effects.

Don’t be afraid..you are in this boat with many women. It takes time and adjustment..stay in contact with your health professional who can help you through the process… be patient ( it can take a few months for the full positive balance to work itself out) life is good! ❤
so grateful to you for doing this interview, thank you. This information is dearly needed.
My main problem has been anxiety out of nowhere…HRT helps
Thank you so much, Penn, for bringing up the topic of menopause. I am learning so much!
Penny- another phenomenal video. My cousin mentioned where she was in life to me on Thursday night, at 4 am Friday, I had made a huge file of information for her, with some of your videos and links at the very top. Thank you for your intense curiosity and need to get out this information!💕
Thank you so much for sharing the information with her, its so important!
Yes, Dr. Menn is amazing!!!
Other symptoms to watch for - sudden crepe skin, bruises on skin which are really caused by your skin becoming fragile like you see in really old people, cracked heels and soles on your feet, acne which is a lot of times caused by ingrown hairs because the skin is so dry, and lose of hair.
Thank you!
I am in the generation where HRT was not used to help with symptoms, and now I am not a candidate for HRT. I got anxiety and it never went away. It became a lifelong issue to manage.
you can still benefit from the hormons
@@lauchzwiebel thank you gor the note - i am 20 years out from menopause ... Can you provide more information ?
Probably the most important and fantastic video you've ever done..thank you so much ❤Also I've used Alloy for 6 months and they are wonderful ❤️
Thank you so much to both of you for this video. I needed it .
Thank you for bringing this extremely important & valuable information to us💜
Excellent video! Thank you so much for sharing.
My Dr said HRT has the most benefits the first 10 years of menopause, so…
Get a new doctor!
Thank you so much Pen and Dr. Menn! Amazing interview!
Question for dr. M: Can a 48 year old woman with a history of endometriosis and or possible active endometriosis can use estrogen?
Thanks for the informative interview.
Thank you so much for this information!
Excelente información ❤gracias.
You mentioned itchy ears, omg I am pretty sure I got a yeast infection in my ears. After a lifetime of not having yeast infections I started getting reoccurring ones with peri. Was put on a long term Fluconazole program and just realized I haven’t had itchy ears since.
THANK YOU PENNY!!!❤❤❤
You're Welcome!
Looking forward to this video 😊❤xx
I have been telling my DR I've been peri menopausal for 2 years and She FINALLY agreed with me. My mother went through menopause fairly early. I don't sleep, like I'm lucky if I get 3 hrs of sleep a night which makes life so difficult. 😵💫
Which carries over to weight loss because finding the energy to workout is NEARLY impossible.
That’s horrible, I’m so glad you are on your way to treatment . 🙏
Thank you. Great info
Thank you so much for this!! I’m definitely going to be more diligent about using my vaginal estrogen. I’m guilty of being lazy.❤❤❤
Yes!! That’s in tomorrow’s video 😁
@@PENNSMITHSKINCARE YAYYYYYYY!!! Thank you!!
Thank you so much for this video!
You are so welcome!
I’m on a Progesterone called Utrogestan 100 and Estradiol Valerate 2 mg, does anyone know if these are ok. This is all confusing!
I’ll ask Dr Menn for specifics 💙
Also, you should absolutely get the book Estrogen Matters. It blew my mind…my mom is a BC survivor too (estrogen receptor pos bc) so I empathize with your pain 😔
@@PENNSMITHSKINCARE Thank you so much!
Good morning
What is the lowest recommended dose for vaginal estrogen ?
I had a blood test done for my hormones and it said that my estrogen was high
I’m 58 years old
Can I use vaginal estrogen ?
Thank you Penny. This was amazing! I take oral estradiol and progesterone and topical testosterone. But I feel like crap all the time. Never want to have sex with my husband either. But I also have treatment resistant depression and anxiety and chronic pain as well. I’m at my wits end.
Maybe your dose needs adjusting..hopefully you are telling your doctor this..
With the right estradiol dose *for you *, you should feel sooooo much better. Also, discuss why oral and not patch. I haven't heard of doctors still prescribing oral over the patch.
Thank you ladies!!!
You should use vaginal in addition to transdermal vivelle dot and oral progesterone?
Sounds like it! 😁
And I’m told that I look way younger than am, so maybe the hormone therapy is helpful for that too 😊 (plus Penn’s Awesome Skincare Recommendations of course)
discount code doesn't work
Sorry, there was a special code for Black Friday Penn25 for $25 off, lasts until Dec 1st!
A little concerning to speak so non chalantly about the pill for teen girls acne. 😢 So many girls on hormonal BC for years and years with terrible side effects.
You almost 50!? I can’t even pay attention to this video. All I’m thinking is how you’re so plump and youthful looking!? Is it from micro needling?
She had a face lift x
