Errol Flynn was so handsome and Bette Davis was so brilliant......GREAT movie. One of only Two Technicolor films Bette ever made during the 30's, 40's & 50's. The other was "The Virgin Queen" (1955) where she plays Queen Elizabeth for the second time
I saw one BBC series that summed up lord Essex’ tragedy: he was a spoiled 2:09 and not very intelligent boy, whose tragedy was he had a overly ambitious mother who worked hard to get him introduced into Elizabeth’s circle. Essex’ mother was too greedy to see that her ordinary minded boy was no match for the sharks in the court - a court ran by a super intelligent and power driven monarch.
i think the sentiment and honesty of her performance overrides the fact that her accent is mid atlantic. in fact i hadnt noticed that as a mid atlantic accent. it looks like she has tailored an obvious upper-class english accent in order to enhance her delivery. she is an extremely clever actor ,to be honest i think she did a great job of disguising her very distinctive voice.
Such an underrated movie Bette is so brilliant
she was an actress who loved her art, and if it cost her, her looks she didnt mind . she was the greatst actress that ever lived
Amen.
I disagree. She played ERI as neurotic and twitchy, as if she had tardive dyskinesia.
Indeed, a formidable actress in her own right.... go gurl 🥰🥰

Really Errol Flynn was too handsome to play Lord Essex. If you see any paintings of the real Lord Essex, he wasn't near as handsome.
@@faithfulforever6331 Errol was incredibly good looking, I'd say in the top 10 all-time most handsome actors in Hollywood ever.
Wow, she really looks like her. Most actresses do not.

Ah, the days when men wore frilly collars, puffy miniskirts and thigh-high boots!
Those days would be nearly half a millennium ago... but still my favorite period for fashion, most of the 1500s.
Trivial note: it's the favourite movie of Aretha Franklin's
